I'm surprised I haven't seen any mention of it yet thusfar. I don't know anything about Three Rings Studios, but it's a fairly fun game.
Spiral Knights is a simple action MMO with a neat style. Gameplay is straightforward, but fun and skill-based. It takes place in a sort of... cyberclockpunk setting? Correct me if I'm failing here.
It's free, and in its current state quite possible to play through without paying money (although money certainly speeds things up). You're limited to around half an hour to a few of play per day without paying, but that should be enough anyways...

Just reached Tier 2 with my friend, learned to beat up those lazr-beemin' ice robots from hell fairly effectively, hoping to mass craft Firotech Alchemers until I can get a boosted one to turn into a Mk II.
