I'm surprised I didn't see one of these made already. I guess I'd better kick off the conversation.

So...how bout that Duelist of the Roses game?

Considering both new handhelds are able to recieve patches, you think they'll start updating the cards lists for these games as the packs come out?

Also, given the Augmented Reality potential for both, we may finally see some holographic childrens card games. I think that'd be pretty neat.

"Holographic Card Gaming" is only neat if it allows us to use The Catapult Turtle Flying Castle Gambit. Otherwise, heck with it.

As for Yu-Gi-Oh games, I've only played The Eternal Duelists Soul and, umm... World Championship 2006 I think. Color me jaded but after awhile Collectible Card Games get boring, no matter how fun they look on TV.

I thought of picking up Dungeondice Monsters on GBA as well as some of the not-strictly-CCG games like the pseudo-RP Gs (Falsebound Kingdom, Forbidden Memories etc) but I'm scared off by remembering The Problem with Licensed Games.

So, are the Yu-Gi-Oh games (that aren't straight ports of the actual CCG and board games) any good?

YMMV on dungeon dice. I personally loved it, but others hated it with very little in between, other than "meh".

Which of the games are good? My mother sold all of my cards, but I have fond memories of the card game.

Would that be the real time strategy one with turn based battles when you collide into someone?

Rented it once from Blockbuster and couldn't stop playing it. Alas, I could never find a copy I could buy and so I never finished it. It was quite a fun game, not something I was expecting actually.

I just looked: the other Yu-Gi-Oh game I've played is Ultimate Masters World Championship Tournament 2006. As a port of the card game it was actually better than Eternal Duelist's Soul in terms of being more true... you even got to choose from six pre-existing, available-in-real-life Theme Decks, and all the in-game expansion packs are based on the real life expansion packs (as opposed to Eternal Duelists Soul which used fictional packs and sets, so you had no way of knowing which ones to get if you were looking for certain cards... unless you looked at a FAQ.)

[up][up]I'm one of the few people I can think of who owns it and I really enjoy it. For a Yugioh video game it is very enjoyable.

I only play the Yugioh World Championship 20XX games...

Know what was impressive about last year's World Championship game?...if you ignore the gratuitous name changes, the story of the game is surprisingly faithful to the anime...

Divine openly talked about how he killed Misty's little brother.

Who watched the 5D's english dub....did they leave that part in? The Divine killing Misty's brother part? And some stuff involving Godwin was left in too.

As for why I like the game....all those cards, I can play with them without using money to buy them.

@Alfric

Yeah, I was quite surprised how well they managed to make the system mesh with a turn based RPG system. Hmm... I think I got as far as when one of the programmers showed and killed the first major villain on Yugi's story. Can't remember how far I got on Kiba's story.

And held onto the Celtic Guardian far longer than I should have. He was way overleveled and slowing down tremendously and yet I managed to use him one on one with the Dark Magician boss and win.

I've noticed that while some monsters are generally really powerful, there is still a good bit of balance. Also did you know that if you beat Yugi and Kaiba's stories, you unlock Joey's story? It shows what Joey and pals did before meeting up with Yugi.

Anyone else like the DS games (Nightmare Troubadour, Spirit Caller, etc.)? I have a deck build centered around my characters from each game. I also come up with a little name for them too, and a small profile. :P

Akira (Nightmare Troubadour): Can see duel spirits and has his own (Charmers); is a decent duelist; teaches Mokuba how to duel (helps him build a Beast Deck); holds onto Obelisk for Kaiba during the Battle City Arc in order to prevent Mokuba from being kidnapped (returns it during the finals; never uses it himself); loses to Kaiba in the preliminaries of the finals (Ishizu does not participate due to the M. Necklace's power fading prior to the finals); has three magician decks (Silent Magician [Original Deck], Charmers [Main Deck], and Endymion [Battle City Preliminaries Deck])

Katsu (Spirit Caller): Can see duel spirits and has his own (Jerry Beans Man and Batteryman C); starts at Osiris Red and rises to Ra Yellow (later becomes a teacher at Duel Academy; is a minor acquaintance of Aki Izayoi in his teaching years); defeats Tanya and Abidos, but loses to Amnael; avoids the Society of Light due to fear of being brainwashed; falls to Yubel!Jesse in a duel; has two decks (Jerry Beans Man [Original Deck] and Batteryman [Alternate Deck])

Goro (Stardust Accelerator): An artificial human created by Rex Goodwin (has minimal Crimson Dragon power); befriends Rally and the other Satellite residents; defeats the Prison Chief in a duel; defeats Alpha/Beta/Gamma/Delta in a duel; hates Rex Goodwin; returns during the Dark Signer arc to tag duel Rex Goodwin with Yori, but the duel is interrupted by the Netherworld King being summoned; has a white duel runner; has two decks (Ice Barrier [Normal and Tag Duels] and Skill Drain Beatdown [Turbo Duels])

Yori (Reverse of Arcadia): Former member of Team Satisfaction; has a small crush on Aki Izayoi, but doesn't act on it due to her infatuation with Yusei; has decent psychic abilities that he can manifest in and out of a duel; has a connection to the Spirit World, though he has no duel spirits of his own; duels against Sayer in the Dark Signer Arc; tag duels Rex Goodwin with Goro, but the duel is interrupted by the Netherworld King being summoned; has a dark green duel runner; has three decks (Genex 1 [Original Deck], Genex 2 [Turbo Duels], and Hyper Psychic Blaster [Main Deck])

??? (Over the Nexus): No known information yet aside from being a resident of Crash Town; uses a Naturia Deck for regular duels

Name Meanings

~~~
Akira's name is pretty much a standard Japanese name; it means bright/clear/ideal and pretty much is a reference to how he's an ingenious duelist (hence his making it to the BC Finals).
Katsu's name means victorious and ties in with his Jerry Beans Man deck. Jerry Beans Man's description mentions how it hasn't yet reached its full potential, which is what Katsu's deck is designed to do. In a best case scenario, my deck build for JBM can get it up to 10,000+ ATK. And then it's not too far from victory.
Goro's name means "fifth child". The name ties into him being the fifth artificial Signer created by Rex Goodwin.
Yori's name means "servant to the public". It references his time being brainwashed by Sayer.
Falsebound Kingdom was the SHIT, I played the hell out of that game. I have the World chamionship 20xx thru....last year I think. The only really good once of those was the last one released on the GBA. I had EVERY card made till that point, and the boosters were the same as real world. The newer games are okay, but they leave out a lot of the older cards I remember. I quite yu-gi-ohh during the first wave of structure decks(the dragon, zombie and warrior ones), so not having access to old stuff like that always turns me off.
I played a Monarch deck in all the games. It was the same deck I played in real life, and was helluva powerful.
You will never love a women as much as George Lucas hates his fans.
Duelist of the Roses was amazing. It was an addicting game, had the Immortal Monsters (power up on crush card field and leave a crush card field when they die), and it helped me in history class!
Not to mention the remix of Yugi's theme from Dark Duel Stories.
I hated Duelists of the Roses.
I still have fond memories of Stairway to the Destined Duel and Dungeon Dice Monsters.
Only games I own/played are Stairway to the Destined Duel and Reverse of Arcadia. To say the latter through me for a loop does not even begin to describe my reaction to the Forbidden list and having to say goodbye to Cyber Jar.
