I used to watch the interview segments on TDS, but now only do if it's someone I'm actively interested in.
As for the Nightly, I tried watching the first ep, couldn't get through 10 minutes. Didn't resonate with me.
Keep It 100 is the best part of TNS, and you're missing it.
I do the same with TDS, and did the same with Colbert. The panel is more important on TNS, and it's more of a discussion than an interview, so I watch those.
Regarding the future hosts I personally think they're going to go with a known quantity. Jon Stewart was an unknown, yes, but that was when TDS was nowhere near the institution that it is now. At the same time I don't think they're going to get any big name comedian like people are saying. So I think it's going to be a current or former cast member. Unfortunately I think Jessica Williams is unlikely because of her age and also the fact that she's black (I could easily see it beinga case of "well, we can't have 2 black hosts back to back").
Wilmore just needs some time to find his feet, I think. No show is born perfect.
Maybe you'd be less disappointed if you stopped expecting things to be Carmen Sandiego movies.I still like the John Hodgeman idea, but I don't know if his quirkyness really works as the principle host. That being said, that thing I talk about how Larry has to play off a white character who tries to be hip but isn't actually would work for Hodgeman.
Also, his name is John, so, you know, they only need to insert an h and change the last name of the show.
I dunno. Maybe it's just me, but I think Hodgman's persona's a little too defined. I dunno if he can play The Everyman Straight Man role that the anchor needs to do more often than not.
Exactly. I like him, but he doesn't fit at all.
...
Lewis Black?
Actually, their new guy, Trevor Noah, would make a good straight man. Part of what annoys me about him in the correspondent role is that he usually winds up playing the straight man to Jon's fool, whereas for most of the other correspondents, it's the reverse. He does get in good punchlines, though, when they let him.
Oh yeah, I really like Trevor. I hardly even remember who he is, but I like him.

Just wanted to second the sentiment about TNS and the Keeping it 100 segment, that was gold.
I find that segment to be cheesy. The matters he touches on are too weighty to be dealt with in any meaningful fashion by a half-hour program, and the fact that he has to give each member of his panel a say ensures that, at best, they'll get some decent sound bites in.
The format doesn't allow for anything more than the most superficial talking points to be debated. He needs an hour slot, really.
"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"Seconding that! Or at least do what TDS does, let it go long, and throw it up on the web.
Hear, hear. Not like any of us are actually watching it on TV. Really they could just kill the anchor bit and move directly from introducing the topic to the panel. Maybe even drop the time for keep it 100 so people can't try to weasel word their way around their answers.
Is using "Julian Assange is a Hillary butt plug" an acceptable signature quote? So apparently Bill Clinton made a Death To Smoochy jab. Ruflz.
"Short list", eh? That's too bad, I've been liking some of the guest host on the Late Late Show and think they could host.
Never trust anyone who uses "degenerate" as an insult.Apart from John Hodgeman, are there any other comedians who have made guest appearances that could make potential replacements?
For the curious, here's one of Jon Stewart's first appearances on The Daily Show, being interviewed by Craig Kilborn. The quality is terrible, and as mentioned in the comments, it's strange (and a little coincidental) that the playback gets affected right when Jon Stewart makes a comment about TDS being a political show.
With all the memes about women choosing a bear over a man, Hollywood might wanna get on an 'East of the Sun and West of the Moon' adaptationI found it more hilarious when he said "It's nice to ruin my career here with you."
After watching that SNL anniversary I want Jane Curtain to take over Daily Show hosting.
Never trust anyone who uses "degenerate" as an insult.John Olivers reaction to Jon Stewarts announcement◊
By way of this weeks Last Week Tonight opening.
"You can reply to this Message!"Yay.
Damnit John, if only you didn't have your HBO show, you could return to The Daily Show and all would be right with the world :P
Yes, your HBO show is pretty interesting, but The Daily Show is an institution!
Maybe, but on HBO he can actually go to the point where he is now the Archnemesis of the week for the president of Ecuador
As well being considered an enemy of state of Thailand.
Im Not Making This Up Disclaimer
"You can reply to this Message!"Yeah, but are either of those things really even worthwhile? C'mon.
So...
Not only are Jason Jones and/or Sam Bee not taking over the anchor desk for Jon, they're leaving the show as well.
They're going the Jon Oliver route, co-producing their own comedy-news show for TBS, with Sam hosting. Jason will also have a scripted series on TBS.
So all we need to do now is wait for Aasif to get his own show on TBS.
I never watch the panels, I'm only really interested in the pure comedy segments, it's why I never watched the interview parts of TDS or Colbert.
