I think that would be an unfortunate outcome. Part of me would go "Well, what did you think would happen?" But it would still be tragic.

It's the ultimate outcome of such ridiculous ideas. The entire idea of arming yourself to deter people is just going to lead to others arming themselves and so on and so forth. It won't stop, it'll just escalate.
Look at the arms race of the 20th century between us and the Soviets. Hell it's still going on.

Oh really when?More specifically, it's a certain segment of the population, with certain social and political beliefs, arming themselves against threats that largely exist only in their imaginations.
I was talking about this with one of my friends the other day in a different context: immunology. Our bodies have immune systems that evolved to fight off constant invasion by pathogens. We're literally on a war footing 24/7; the problem then is that, when you remove pathogens from the environment as much as we have, these systems, which are programmed to look for threats, go kind of batshit. They know that there must be stuff out there to fight, so anything that looks even the least bit suspicious gets added to the list of enemies, and thus arise autoimmune disorders, with the body attacking itself.
That's what we're leading to here. These self-styled defenders of American rights, backed by laws making them virtually unaccountable for their actions, are out there looking for enemies. It should come as no surprise when they find some, real or otherwise.
"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"Most people I've met like that seem to have this idea that they're on the verge of the government coming in and carpet bombing their house or something.
It's just getting ridiculous.
Oh really when?"You can go a long way in this country killing black folk. Young males especially."
And Fighteer, I've thought of that analogy with autoimmune diseases before, although I was thinking more of the obsession with continually upping spending on the military at the expense of things like educating kids, taking care of seniors, keeping bridges from collapsing, etc., but if anything it applies in a more direct way to things like Stand Your Ground and Open Carry Texas.
| Wandering, but not lost. | If people bring so much courage to this world...◊ |In the right state, even if they were unarmed, you'd get a hero's parade for shooting a black man.
Of course, don't you know anything about ALCHEMY?!- Twin clones of Ivan the GreatI'm no gun rights enthusiast, but I'm sad that the Daily Show didn't talk about the social issues behind the UCSB shooting at all, especially because in a state like California, which already has pretty strict gun control laws, the social issues were probably just as much of a a factor, if not more of a factor than gun control laws. It's also scary to see all the people who commented on his videos saying they sympathize with him or that if women had just slept with him, none of this would happen. But the a gain, I haven't seen Thursday's episode yet, so maybe there's something I'm missing.

Nope.
And really, it doesn't deserve that kind of recognition.
I like Michael Che. He seems like he'll be really good.
It'll be interesting, when Open Carry and Stand Your Ground ultimately clash, which side will win out. My guess: Absolutely fucking nothing actually changes, and it gets dismissed as "the price of freedom" or some bullshit.
X-Men X-Pert, my blog where I talk about X-Men comics.Depends on how many people die or wounded and how long the court cases last.
And if they're black.
My first thought was to cast the Stand Your Grounders as black. Though, that could easily be written the wrong way.
Stand your Ground won't go down until someone uses it as an excuse to shoot at an elected official.
Oh, if it's a black person shot and killed, then absolutely nothing will change. A white guy killing a black guy can definitely get off by citing Stand Your Ground. We saw a few months ago that it's only if the white guy misses that he goes to prison.
X-Men X-Pert, my blog where I talk about X-Men comics.I like Michael Che and Jordan Klepper.
That dude saying soccer over and over again was hilarious, and I'm not sure why.
Never trust anyone who uses "degenerate" as an insult.Any word said over and over sounds funny, because it stops sounding like a word after about the fourth time.
Jason Jones exercised his right to religious freedom last night by not wearing pants on set. I may be scarred for life.
"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"Oh it was pixelated you wussie!
Unless you were there in person in which case, dunno. I just sort of assume he was wearing flesh colored tights.
And the blur was rather absurdly large.
"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"Didn't seem large to me.
Internet pornography has forever ruined my perceptions of such things I suspect!
Wow, Hillary really danced around the, "Are you running for reals?" question last night, didn't she? I kind of hate how our media forces prospective candidates to do that.
If she doesn't run, I'll be utterly shocked, but she still has to go through the dog and pony show.

"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"I also noticed Hillary avoided another question in an odd way. Stewart asked if other countries should really learn about the US given the US doesn't learn about them. Her response was that the US needs to do a better job talking about itself. Admittedly, a very American point of view.
X-Men X-Pert, my blog where I talk about X-Men comics.Hillary keeps sending mixed messages. At some times she talks like a progressive liberal who's frustrated with the gross distortions of reality in media, and at other times she sounds like a clip of centrist DINO sound bites. The nod to "American exceptionalism" was disheartening. I don't know if she really believes it or she's just reading from the script for How to Be a Prospective Candidate — i.e., be as mild as possible so as not to rock the boat.

I hate that you said that even though I know you are right...
