It occurs to me now that when he was talking about the heat gun and Xacto knife, he was probably talking about just replacing the lens.
Fresh-eyed movie blogEdit: yeah it was.
And it looks like assembling everything I need to peel off and replace the glass is going to be about $50, which is still more than I can really afford. And then I'd be stuck with a UV flashlight and a heat gun.
Fresh-eyed movie blogDang, I hope I can get a Project Fi invite in the next couple of months. $20 a month plus $10 per budgeted gigabyte, with data overages billed at about one cent per megabyte and overestimates credited toward your next bill at the same rate.
With a 24-month installment plan on a compatible phone at under $20 a month, I should end up paying, well, not much less than my current bill, but that will fluctuate depending on data use.
Fresh-eyed movie blogI'm looking for an upgrade. I have a Moto G (1st Gen, model almost two years old now IIRC), and I'd like a phone around that price range. Typically I'd just go for the 3rd gen Moto G and leave it at that, but I'm wondering if the Nexus 5X or even the Nexus 5 are good. Certainly the 5 will be more affordable now. I'm not considering iOS devices.
Any other good candidates? I'd prefer reliable updates, but if there's something special I'd be willing to forego.
noisivelet naht nuf erom era srorrimSpeaking of, my G has apparently arrived, but I don't get home until Thursday. Gah.
"Yup. That tasted purple."The new Android One's are nice alternates, albeit just slight upgrades on your Moto G but they are quite affordable.
I'm reading this because it's interesting. I think. Whiskey, Tango, Foxtrot, over.If you can get the Moto X Pure (or Play if you're able to) you should go for it.
dead devotionYou mean, "So, it has come to this." lol
I'm reading this because it's interesting. I think. Whiskey, Tango, Foxtrot, over.Marshmallow has been out for about more than a week now. Still debating on whether to upgrade to stock 6.0 or stick with my current Lollipop custom ROM (Euphoria, Nexus 5). Hmm..
Don't stop, just proceed, 'cause this is what you need-proceed, just proceed, 'cause this is what you need!I guess I'm waiting for Motorola to roll out their Marshmallow build then.
"Yup. That tasted purple."I can't seem to get my Facebook contacts to sync. Anyone got any suggestions?
"Yup. That tasted purple."Can't help you there, I don't really sync anything except my email.

dead devotionThat is another reason for me to jump from Verizon.
I should be getting my Fi invite in less than a month. And then hopefully it doesn't have a speedy expiration date, because my Verizon contract doesn't expire until maybe up to a month later.
Fresh-eyed movie blogAh well.
At least we'll probably have Marshmallow before Samsung Pay.
dead devotionAlso looking forward to ditching Samsung. I wanted to get a Moto X last time around, but at the last minute I got the mistaken impression that Samsung's Touchwiz skin included a function similar to the way iOS will jump to the top of a page if you double tap the top of the screen (it does not).
TW for Jellybean is a lot better than TW for Gingerbread though. And if you use a third-party launcher, hardly any of Touchwiz seriously affects look and feel.
Fresh-eyed movie blogOkay, I figure this is probably the best place to ask for an informal survey. Answers requested especially from tropers outside of North America.
Smartphones are everywhere. What are some of the most common brands you see around you on a day-to-day basis? Apples are everywhere and Samsungs not far behind, but other brands that may be less familiar to Americans?
(I use an older, trusty BLU Studio 5.3, a cheap-and-cheery Android that's already been accidentally wiped once; fortunately everything on the SD Card was intact. Lots of the Chinese immigrant families around me use Xiaomis or other Chinese phones, some of which are pretty high-end; my brother was lucky enough to score himself a OnePlus.)
Charlie Stross's cheerful, optimistic predictions for 2017, part one of three.Mostly Apples and Samsungs here, with a few Motorolas, Nokias and Sonys in the mix.
And someone at the University Anime Society has a Bush Windows phone.
"Yup. That tasted purple."@T Paradox: It isn't terrible in the S6 provided you have a decent theme and launcher.
I've mostly seen iPhones and Galaxies.
Sometimes I see a Zenfone 2 or a OPO, although those are much much much less common.

dead devotionI just want as little between me and Android as possible.
Well, Google's idea of what Android should be doesn't include removable SD cards or batteries, but other than that.
Fresh-eyed movie blogMoto X Style/Pure/Whatever is a thing.
dead devotionMotorola doesn't do removable batteries now either.
"Yup. That tasted purple."True but microSD expansion is a thing.

Yep, if you want to repair your screen for cheap, you unfortunately have to do it yourself.
