Yes, that is what I had in mind when I was designing my last project. I had delusions of learning Japanese in my community college and foreign communications so I could go to Japan and become a famous artist over there and publish my work or get it aired, eventually getting a viral fandom over in the United States and having people add tropes to my work on this very wiki.

I based some of my ideas on my characters getting intense godlike powers that could destroy planets, and carried a storyline that was based on defying the laws of existence and shocking and awing the audience with bouts of impossible feats. I normally incorporated the moody girl who was indecisive about her feelings, the extremely cute and innocent one that would eventually have moments of complete psychosis, and I would have a strange balance of cuteness, edginess and despair in between while emulating parts of the works I liked into my story. The villain would be a well-kept master of deception that could always benefit from the biggest drawback, and there would be a much more intimidating force in the background of the story that manipulated everything to it's will.

I had it all planned out and was dedicating college time to complete this dream, taking art classes, japanese classes and reading about the job as much as I possibly could.

Eventually I realized there are a lot of things that I have noticed I was doing that others before me have done, and failed. They didn't learn Japanese the right way and had to rely on a portable booklet to help them figure out where the most basic of necessities where. They had no references for work, and they had nobody they knew there that was a native resident that could even help them. They didn't account for the whole alienation aspect and natural rejection of foreigners there.

After renouncing that work, I have succumbed to trying to rebuild my style from the roots and improving my personal art style rather than mimic a formula and meld it into my own, and try to brain storm an idea that isn't reminiscent of something I admire and are trying to mimic.

It seemed like all of the advice I was seeking on here was completely based on my Anime/Manga idea that probably would never have taken flight. It's a shame that there might be others that are doing this right now and possibly failing as well. Perhaps I should stick to webcomics instead.

There is nothing wrong with dreaming of making manga and anime. What's wrong is not planning ahead.

If you make art for the shake of art without cring about "becoming famous" or "going to Japan" or "becoming rich". Loving what you do is the best reward. IF you become fmous and rich thats and extra. But it shoudln't be the goal.

Make your hearth shine through the darkest night; let it transform hate into kindness, evil into justice, and loneliness into love.

[up][up] Wow, same here. Technically, I'd planned to start a webcomic and hopefully attract big-name attention, which may or may not have been more pathetic.

Well anyway, you've got my sympathies. I eventually decided to accept the influence anime and manga had on my creative process and tried to meld it with more contemporary styles. It was pretty easy, as I've found my writing leans more towards the verbose and descriptive anyway.

I've got new mythological machinery, and very handsome supernatural scenery. Goodfae: a mafia web serial

Would be better before you really embarrass yourself. Let's face it: You won't be the next Go Nagai, period. And the Japanese comic and cartoon industry is a very competitive and unforgiving one. Your story also somehow reminds me on this Cracked article. Besides as a webcomic artist you won't be screwed over by executives and you don't have to jack-off the fanbase to make a living. If you are doing this for the sake of writing and drawing than better keep it as a hobby.
