So is the assassin alien dude from species that served Thrawn in Legends?

Rukh, (I love how Thrawn pronounces his name in Rebels) was Thrawn's personal bodyguard and assassin in the Thrawn trilogy. His entire race, the Noghri, were subservient to Vader because he promised to help repair their planet after a battle left it ravaged, but when Vader died Thrawn kind of took over as the new head of the Empire, so they served him. They are called on to kill Leia, but when they realize that she's the daughter of Vader they call off the assassination. They invite her to their planet and she discovers that the battle that wrecked the planet was from way back in the Clone Wars and that the Empire has been slacking off on the planet restoration, because if they were actually helping they could have fixed the planet by now. The Noghri are so pissed that Rukh stabs Thrawn in the chest, causing him to die. His last words are "But… it was so artistically done," which are actually pretty cool last words, if the situation allows for you to speak them.

[up]I am glad they made it Rukh specifically. I do not necessarily think we are headed for a Billbringi situation, but it is definitely a possible avenue for Thrawn.

There's a book that just came out, called Thrawn, chronicling how an exiled Chiss came to become a well respected Imperial Commander, written by Timothy Zahn, the one who created Thrawn in the first place. The thing is available in audio-book format, read by Marc Thompson. The guy does a spot on Thrawn.

Disney just bought Fox. This means that all Star Wars material now belongs to Disney. Prior to this Fox owned distribution rights to the first movie.

Comcast isn't included in the deal, I think, sadly enough.

Fox News is pretty much the only thing Fox that isn't included in the deal.

I'm really hoping the next animated Star Wars series is set post Battle of Jakku. I need this level of world building in the post empire era.

That's the only thing that can save the sequels by now. Go for it.

"Save"????

Save from what?

Surely it isn't financial failure.

Surely it isn't critical failure.

What else could it be?

I want one of two things. A series set in the Old Republic or a post ST story about whatever Jedi group Rey helps found. Neither one sounds overly likely though.

I still want a Luke Academy series. Luke and his twelve students. Snoke first emerging from wild space with the first order, Leia setting up the Resistance with the Republic's half hearted enforcement, The Knights of Ren. This all happened six years prior to TFA.

[up]I'd love to see that, but only if they got Hamill as Luke.

That could be interesting. I wonder if it could add more depth to Kylo the same way TCW added depth to Anakin. As it is he seems a bit bland.

You'd have to get Hamill as Luke. How could you bare casting someone else?

Ordinarily I wouldn't expect something like that to happen but Hamill's been a voice actor for quite a few things. It wouldn't surprise me if they could convince him to do it.

I don't know...I feel like it'd be rather depressing to focus on a bunch of characters we know are going to either die horribly or be turned to the Dark Side.

True, the same was arguably true of The Clone Wars, but that was widespread enough that they could give an out to characters like Ahsoka. Not sure if the same could be done here.

I would love to see the looks on our crew's faces when the Mon Calamari finally join the rebellion with Star Destroyer size capital ships. After only having mid-sized ships at best for such a long time, they would actually have a massive ship that could house all their fighters and go toe-to-toe with anything the Empire has short of a Super Star Destroyer. Unfortunately the show is ending. Maybe the next series will be between New Hope and Return of the Jedi. It's got to be set sometime.

I'd probably have it set in two time periods.

Luke, Leia and Han dealing with the aftermath of Ben trashing the temple, joining the suddenly active first order, and flash backs to a different previous conflict where Luke and his teens helped Senator Leia Organ and Han deal with a minor conflict. Flesh out both the new republic and the young Jedi, but mostly in service of telling the story post fuck-up.

(I've always wondered if the New Republic had to deal with the question of formally speratist planets. Do they get to leave, or do they have to stay in the republic and pay reformations for The Clone War. Same question for the Core planets)
