A new day.

The gentle rays of the morning sun creep slowly through the hills and streets of this relatively new city.

On a really modern house a pair of young maidens should be getting ready to leave for their schools.

The elder of the two walks down the stairs, her hairly neatly tied into a short ponytail, her uniform checked twice on the mirrors of the bathroom and her bag casually held behind her over her shoulder.

Akane casually checked the time on wristwatch with her free hand It´s already this late... no way I can sit down to have breakfast the teenager thought a little somberly.

She hurried to the kitchen and as quickly as possible spread some strawberry jam on a piece of break to eat on the way to the school. Once that was done she took a single bite out of it before she went to entrance of the home to slip on her shoes.

Now there was just one thing missing.

"Kiku! Hurry up we gotta go!" Akane called. Due to her hurry this morning she didn´t actually know if her sister was even up. For all she knew she could be either sleeping in or already dressed, fed and hidding in a cup board or something.

If I'm sure of something it's that I'm not sure of anything.

Please note, I'm acting on the assumption that only Hateshinai Rei has contracted so far. I'll edit this if I've made a mistake.

In a tree to the south of the city proper, overlooking the still-sleepy business and school districts, there sat a small white creature. Not many would have seen him even had they looked; as no one was looking, it wasn't an issue. Kyubey, as the furry little messenger called himself, licked a paw and idly wiped at his forehead. "There's so much potential here," Kyubey commented, looking over the city with unabashed interest. "That business in Mitakihara's been taking most of our focus, but it looks like that'll be cleared up soon. So I guess I'd better get started." He rolled over onto his back, closing his eyes in pleasure as the rough bark scratched into his back fur. "I can't wait to meet this city's future Magical Girls!"

Wait, so Mitakihara exists in the RP's verse?

"Overslept, huh."

Hateshinai Rei glanced at her alarm clock through half-open eyes. "A good forty minutes over, too."

That was enough.

Despite being unconscious barely two minutes ago, Rei was already fully awake when she opened her bathroom door. As she brushed her teeth, as she showered, as she dried herself off, a lone thought lodged itself into her head:

"I'm late."

She was indeed late, and she knew it; but it was not for school. Dressed in the uniform of the nearby Kitakou High and slinging her schoolbag over her shoulder, Rei hurried down the staircase to the ground floor, calling out for her parents as she arrived at the base; but there was no response save for her own quiet echo. Just as she expected.

She was not late for school: she was late for seeing her father and mother off to work.

Distraught at her failure, the young girl quietly took a seat at the dinner table in the kitchen nearby. Breakfast was already prepared for her: two strips of bacon, a sunny-side-up egg, a few slices of toast and some strawberry jam to go with it, a simple yet heartwarming Western-style breakfast and one of her favorites. Silently, Rei thanked her father (her family's primary chef, and the one who usually prepares breakfast), muttered a quiet itadakimasu, and began her meal.

Fifteen minutes later, she was ready to go. With the automatic gate to her house silently rolling shut behind her, Rei began walking down the ever-so-familiar path to Kitakou High. Slowly but surely, the morning sun began illuminating the city of Yamanaka.

Well, that certainly took some time. It's 5AM now. Yay. *collapses*

"If anybody should be hurrying up, it's you, nee-chan!" teased Kiku, walking into the kitchen, munching on an apple. She was already dressed for school. "Overslept again, did we? That's my sister! Such a hard-working young woman! Truly an inspiration to us all!"

Aoi yawned as she got out of bed, her arms in the air. She Walked over to the bathroom, brushed ber teeth and put on her new school uniform. She looked herself over in the mirror before putting her favorite pair of sunglasses on top of her head, hoping that wearing them wouldn't break the dress code. She then walked out of the bathroom, and knocked on her sister's bedroom door. "Hey, Miki, you ready to go yet?" Aoi said. "Yes." Miki said, opening the door. Her backpack was on already and she was completely dressed. "I've been ready to go for an hour, actually..." Miki said, adjusting the straps on her bag. The two girls walked down to the kitchen, where both their parents were eating breakfast. There were some scattered moving boxes around the room from the Taro Family's recent move in. The girls made breakfast then headed to school.

Don't expect me to attempt to info dump like this ever again. After a certain point it gets really boring... You can even tell from the abrupt ending.

No reason to assume Mitakihara doesn't exist in the RPverse. We'll just say it's very far away from Yamanaka and Kyoen, though.

Kyubey worked his way down into the city, taking things at a nice slow pace. Yamanaka fairly sparkled with Magical Girl candidates, though most would provide only a modest energy return; still, it was impressive just how many there were. And up ahead - Kyubey settled himself on the shoulder of a man riding a moped up the hill, to save himself some trouble; the motorist didn't even turn his head - up ahead was Kitakou High School, and just a bit beyond that, Hananiwa Private Academy. And those places shone the brightest of all.

"Heh, what up with that sarcasm this early in the morning?" Akane says in a serious tone even though she smiling at her little sister. The high school student then hold her toast with her mouth to be able to open the door to head outside.

"You're lucky I got my hands full, otherwise I would so be pinching your cheek right now"

Of all the public schools in Yamanaka, Kitakou High was by far the most well-known and illustrious of them all; only the private Hananiwa Academy some ways further uptown could match Kitakou's fame. Despite its short history, having been established around the same time as the city itself, the school had already accumulated a list of distinctions and awards capable of challenging institutions twice its age. Today, as with any school day, the gates were fully opened, welcoming all who came to study here; and Rei was one of them.

There was still a fair bit of time before the first period's bell would ring; even so, already a fair quantity of students were streaming into the compounds, some heading straight into the massive, postmodernist main building, others splitting off to go their own ways. Rei had made it a habit to come a bit early every day, and as a result she always successfully avoided the massive rush of oversleeping schoolmates desperate to not be late for the first lesson. She had enough time to stroll to her classroom leisurely.

Today, however, something else caught her eye. Something small, white, and quite alive, taking it easy on the shoulder of a biker passing by the area.

Eh, she had time.

Mentally, she sent out a question directed at the small animal... thing. "Kyubey, is that you? It's rare for you to appear without me having to summon you for Grief Seed consumption; what brings you here-ah, right. There must be potential contracts in the area, I presume?"

That is all she needed. That is all... Her dreams of seeing the world have become her strength, and lifts her wings.

"Right as always, Rei," Kyubey replied, leaping off the biker's shoulder. He ducked between a truck's wheels with supreme confidence, emerging unscathed on Rei's side of the sidewalk a few moments later. He sat himself down at Rei's feet, looking up at the girl with wide, innocent eyes. "They may even be people you know! There wasn't anything like this many wonderful candidates for contracts the last time I was here," he mused, jumping up onto Kitakou's boundary wall and walking along with Rei. "It's a little unusual, really. But if even a quarter - no, ten percent! - of the best candidates contract, Yamanaka City will be the safest place in Japan," he said, closing his eyes to smile.

At Kyubey's words, Rei let out a soft mental chuckle; physically, however, the blue-eyed girl's expression remained as grave as ever, and she wordlessly twirled around and walked into the schoolyard. With good reason: she'd look crazy if she just suddenly giggled at nothing for no reason. "Hmhm. I wouldn't be sure about the 'someone I know' part, given my poor aptitude for making friends," she snarked, "but that sounds wonderful. You're going to be a busy little... cat-rabbit thing (or whatever you are) soon enough~"

"I'm your little sister, it's my job to give you a hard time." Kiku wolfed down the last of her toast. "Ready, sleepyhead? Mom says you gotta drop me off today. She can't 'cause she's busy, so you gotta hold my hand like I'm some kinda little kid or something!" She rolled her eyes. "...well okay, so I guess I kind of am, but I'm not a baby or anything. Jeez. Mom is so overprotective. Sometimes I almost wish she would dote on you, instead. And then I remember how awesome I am and how I totally deserve it." Kiku gave her sister a cheeky grin.

"I hope so," Kyubey replied, hopping down off the wall to meander after Rei in the general direction of the main school building. "If you find anyone who looks like she'd make a good Magical Girl, be sure to call me! I'll be looking around on my own a bit, though." He ducked through the front door in front of Rei, winding his way through the students milling in the halls. "Remember, Rei, happy girls make the best Magical Girls!"

Oh, Kyubey. Once the secrets begin spilling out...

"I must have been the worst Magical Girl ever when I started out, then! Hmph." A faked, almost comical mental pout. "In any case, I'll see what I can do about looking for candidates. I doubt I'll achieve much, though." Entering a slightly crowded glass elevator, Rei poked the control panel to take her to the third floor. A few more students hurried in just before the doors rolled shut, and the elevator quietly began its job of elevating various people to their destinations.

"I wake up late and I'm still earlier than half the class. Amazes me every single time."

Entering the half-filled classroom, Rei quietly proceeded to her seat in the middle of the second row and sat down. Almost immediately, her mind went into overdrive, and her usual pre-lesson reverie began.

I'm guessing that, like Mitakihara, Kitakou is made mostly from glass and stuff, and would also have conveniences like elevators due to size. If you guys have an alternate interpretation of the school you'd like to use instead, I'll edit this post

Sounds good to me. That makes it easier to visualize, anyway.

Following the elevators upward, Kyubey found his way to the top of the school building. Sitting down just above the clock tower, he pillowed his chin on his paws and watched the school gates with interest, keeping track of the girls streaming in.

"As humble as I expected out of you. Be careful Kiku, that ego gets any bigger and you won't be able to fit it through doors" Akane said while finishing her breakfast on the way to her little sister's middle school. The moment she saw that mom wasn't around fussing about Kiku's uniform or anything of the sort she guessed it would fall on to her to walk the girl to her school.

At this rate I'll have to dash all the way to Kitakou if I want to arrive before the gates close... Well, what better way to start the day? Akane thought as she checked once again her wristwatch.

"Alright, lets hasten the pace a little. You got everything you need with you?"

Machi Nazuna sat cross legged on the roof of Hananiwa, chewing on yakisoba bread. She had dropped out of her old school so that she could actually spend time as a magical girl. As a result, she had moved to another city that had plenty of witches to hunt. From then on, she picked up a part time job and rented out an apartment in Yamanaka.

After a while, she'd snuck into the school, figured out its layout and stole a uniform. From then on, she obtained the key to the roof and had used it as her personal base.

Not that it actually served much of a purpose other than being where she ate lunch.

Left…right…left…right…CAR!

With a swerve and a mutter swear, Ysanne barreled around the oncoming car with only a few inches to spare. Her red mountain bike dodged in and out of traffic and back up onto the sidewalk. Complete with red helmet, she pedaled like mad, going around the corner.

Ysanne Taihou was attending Kitakou High and she was going to be on time, come hell or high water.

Left…right…left…right…OLD LADY!

Swerving like mad, she managed to dodge around her and avoid harm.

“Not going to be late, not going to be late, not going to be late…” Unbeknownst to others, Ysanne had a secret. A secret she loved almost to death. She was a magical girl. An honest to god magical girl!

Admittedly she hadn’t really known what a magical girl was when she became one. So she looked up the most common source she could find. And then it came to her.

Super-Hero!

Why else would she have powers if not to fight crime and protect the innocent? She had dove into the job of being one with all her energy. She had a few slip ups but they were just minor things! Like that parking garage that had a three meter hole in the wall, it was no biggie. Or the time she had crashed into the city’s central garden and nearly destroyed it, mere details!

One thing that had gotten around was a rumor of a girl in red that beat the ever-living crap outta anyone she found breaking the law. She had run into a bunch of thugs that had stolen a purse off of someone and she had rightly intervened. The fact she had sent all four to the hospital with broken legs didn’t really bother her…honest! The rumor of the “Red Devil” had been spreading. But, like all magical girls, she was also completely paranoid with her secret identity. She had managed to add a partial face mask to her outfit to hide her facial details so all they had to work with was her eyes and hair. And it wasn’t like she was the only green eyed, orange haired one at the school.

Rounding the last corner, Ysanne pulled back on her bike, hit the strategically positioned garbage cans she had moved there from their previous homes and leaped over the wall, controlling her descent and she quickly rolled to the bike lockup are and stored her machine and then made tracks to the common room. It was commonly thought that Ysanne should try out for ether the track team or the drama class. She had energy for both. Managing to get to the class room, she grabbed the door frame, spun on her heel and in one motion slid into her chair, the one closest to the door and she landed with a sigh.

I might just make it to class in time at this pace Akane thought as she saw her little sister run right pass her as she defied her to a race.

A little smile crossed her lips as she started to run after Kiku; the older sister easily caught up with her younger sibling, though she stayed just a couple feet behind her the whole way to the girl's middle school.

"I guess... you're good... for something... after... all..." Kiku wheezed as she leaned against the fence in front of the school. "Showoff..." she said, apparently forgetting that she was the one who'd challenged Akane to a race.

Kyubey perked up as a red cannonball streaked up the street, narrowly avoiding cars, pedestrians and various other obstacles. "My, my," he commented, standing and stretching his front legs, then his back. "Good morning, Ysanne. How have you been? You must have collected a lot of Grief Seeds since I saw you last! Do you need me to dispose of any for you?" As he turned to go downstairs and greet the uncontrollable Magical Girl properly, a bright light caught his eye out past the school gates. Sitting back down, Kyubey focused in on the source, and it soon resolved into not one, but two uncommonly bright candidates: a high school girl and a younger one, both leaning against the gates of Kitakou's sister junior high. Kyubey closed his eyes in satisfaction. Such a good start to the day, and it wasn't even noon yet!

... primary battle strategy needs a massive overhaul if I want to actually win that battle; can't just overwhelm them with levels...

A good fifteen minutes had passed since Rei took her seat; the previously-nearly empty classroom was now filled with students she identified as "classmates," and soon roared with the liveliness of pre-lesson conversation. A couple of girls (and one guy) greeted the daydreaming Rei as they entered, and she responded in kind; but now they were occupied with their own cliques, happily chatting away without abandon. In the middle of all the ruckus, Rei quietly continued her aimless, utterly random reverie...

... comparing the coefficients of x, 6=3A-B, so B=3A-6; substituting that into the other equation... eh?

.. or she would, were it not for Kyubey's out-of-the-blue mental greeting of (and mentioning of Grief Seeds to) a certain red cannonball, and said red cannonball promptly blazing past Rei's classroom scant moments later.

"Another Magical Girl, huh? That certainly explains the unusually low rate of Witch appearances quite wonderfully," said Rei mentally and matter-of-factly, rather plainly broadcasting her thoughts for both Kyubey and the other girl; "not that I suppose anything's wrong with that."

Rei's reverie is aimed at herself, so those thoughts aren't audible to Kyubey or Taihou-chan; I should probably find some other way to distinguish them from broadcasted thoughts. EDIT: Advice taken, Zudak; personal thoughts are now unquotation'd. Thanks!

Akane grinned at her little sister and showed her a v of victory with her free hand "That's to make you remember to show some respect to your elders, Kiku-chan"

The big sister then proceeded to pat Kiku's head softly "Now go to class and remember not to be a smart-ass unless you want to get bullied"

Akane then started to walk towards her own school only to turn her head after a few steps to say "Ah, I'll be here to pick you up after my club activities. We can then go for some crepes or something. My treat"

"...hehehe. It's not called being a smartass, dear sister. All the boys love girls who are witty like me." Kiku grinned smugly. "I had three boys ask me out yesterday, but I turned them all down," she said, obviously lying.

But her attitude went away the second Akane mentioned crepes. "Ooooh, crepes! My favorite! You're the best, sis!"
