OK, so. I'm firmly of the belief that most bad edits here are made out of ignorance rather than deliberately ignoring the rules. But I also think a lot of contributors don't really think much about an edit after they hit "submit", so we might want to give them a gentle reminder if it looks like they're breaking the rules. We know the software can detect links to a certain page that shouldn't be there, like the little orange notice at the top of the edit screen that points out YMM Vs on work pages. Is it feasible to detect if a particular edit adds those links? Because I was thinking that, if it does, we could have it so that when the editor hits submit they get a screen that reads something like this:

"Your edit has added a link to [insert page here] to the page [insert page here].

Pages listed under the YMMV or Trivia indexes go on the work pages of their respective namespaces. We generally don't like links to these pages to a work's main article. Darth Wiki pages should not be linked anywhere on the main wiki. Also, certain phrases, like This Troper or X Just X, are indicative of a writing style that doesn't gel with the wiki's standards. If you're not sure if the link should be there or not, look over What Goes Where On The Wiki and How To Write An Example. If you still have questions, take it to the forums. If you're sure your edit is good and this message came up by mistake, go ahead and hit 'confirm' to submit your edit."

Only maybe a little briefer than that.

What do you guys think?

This sounds like an Abuse filter for TV Tropes. Really powerful really difficult to use.

It looks simpler than an abuse filter. A warning system. It can perform only a subset of related tasks.
