Balloon: I meant, who on this thread has professed to be 100% non-social?

okay.

I should know, I'm a recovering one. Now I'm focusing on becoming an elegant, suave and dazzling urbanite. By the time I achieve it, I'll have just the right age to fully enjoy it.

Sellout.

a Gentlemant And A Scholar = prestige and uthority. While "scholar and nerd" means "be an ant, work in your lab/ivory tower, don't bother us".

Well those people can take their "authority"and do you-know-what with it that bull won't fly here tongue

Authority gives you power to CHANGE THE WORLD. Do you have no VISION?

[up]I used to think as you do actually, I wanted to learn charisma & social shit just to get into politics and change the world. But then again I read other thoughts from others, the neurodiversity movement, icarus projects & those who do not fit in with neurotypical societies et al - and remembered my thoughts from before I wanted to do that, and realized there are other ways. And I still feel a sort of disdain for the BS that politics brings to people, e.g. having to phrase things in socially acceptable manners - 'phrasing the debate' - which is yeesh. So I still have some moral qualms about lying to people like that.

Also the internet provides a nice counter-balance and I saw the usefulness of anarchism as an idea....

I'd rather set up a separate autistic nation and let the N Ts do their NT things.

tl;dr i'd rather not turn to the dark side and be as I am doing things from the outside to avoid being 'tainted'...and to tear it all down. But even if I get 'in' hopefully I remember to keep wikileaking stuff out......though their rationals are useful and good, and it is a matter of differing views....then I remember what society is like due to them, and well motivation returns.

ehhh.

To answer the question about why people who say they desire no (or very little) social interaction are posting on forums: forum posting is, in crucial ways, different from face-to-face interaction, and the latter is presumably the sort of interaction they're referring to not wanting. For one thing, it's more conducive to remaining focused on one topic, and "talking about subjects" is indeed what I like. I don't much care for small talk and chitchat for chitchat's own sake.

There's nothing bad about casual subjects like gossip, mainstream entertainment and the like, provided you don't actually have to dumb yourself down to converse on the same level.

I know what you said, sugar, but 'platonic' still entails a world of ideas.

"Social interaction is overrated. Loners Are Freaks is stupid, other people does not = happiness. The reverse can be said as well, but you shouldn't get caught in these absolutes that other people try to enforce on others."

Irrespective of happiness depending on other people or not, I'm skeptical of anyone decrying social interraction whilst interacting with people, as you're doing in this conversation.

... How would you find out about people decrying social interactions otherwise? Hermits aren't famous for their published work...

And meanwhile, everyone else is busy socializing. Out of practicality, I'd say that talking with others always beats out being alone, especially in the area of "expressing your opinion".

The thing about making witty signature lines is that it first needs to actually be witty.

I think they mean physical interaction; it would have helped them if they had specified the different levels of interacting with people.

He said it was overrated, not unnecessary; even if he said/meant the latter, it doesn't contradict the point. People partake in many activities they deem inessential, from time to time/in small doses.

People spend most of the time they can on such activities. It's called consumerism and entertainment culture. And just plain sloth + lust.Sometimes when doing more productive stuff would do them much more good, to the point of going against their own common sense and being self-destructive, and aware of it.

"How would you find out about people decrying social interactions otherwise?"

My guess is that you wouldn't, since anyone who truly shuns society wouldn't care enough to let it know how unnecessary it is.

Exactly. To expand on this a bit: I like verbal interaction, specifically. I prefer a medium without eye contact, facial expressions, tone of voice, rate of speech, relative loudness/softness of speech, accents, gestures, stammering, and other aspects of body language, as I am not fluent in that language.

I think tone-of-voice is something that would make some aspects of communication a lot clearer, but that's just me. (At least here we have potholes, which are helpful)

I tend not to make eye contact, though this is borne out of easy distraction and not a social phobia.
