I love those conversations. My family cracked the f*ck up when Code Talker explained that the secret method to creating a truly great hamburger was artificial chemical additives.

Like, that was the last place we were expecting this conversation to go: establishing that the McDonalds method is the right way to make a truly great burger.

You know, one of the main themes of TPP is self deception, of double think, of knowing something to be true and believing something else.

So all those people trying to find missing content, a "Chapter 3" but finding nothing, of continuing to search no matter how little evidence there is, I find these people give me a little. chuckle.

I wonder if this was Brojima's intention...

So Konami announced the first Metal Gear spin off. It's called Metal Gear: Survive"

So a game about MSF survivors of Mother Base....sent to an alternate universe....fighting metal-infected zombie things...in a co-op survival game.

Nope, did not see this coming at all. At least it's not another pachinko machine.

I'm reminded of the Clickers from The Last of Us. Notice how they're lacking the upper cranium and eyes, and instead have only that odd red crystal formation sticking out? I'm betting these guys are either near or totally blind, but in return have great hearing, smell and can feel vibrations.

Thus, the stealth part would have the player trying to move around as quietly as possible to avoid aggro-ing the zombie hordes, ammo being limited due to the lack of modern factories or supply lines, and the melee weapons coming into the forefront since they are easier to forge and don't waste precious ammo.

I don't know if this is amazing or horrible.

Like, I could imagine Brojima actually making this, maybe as a Phantom Pain minigame. And it wouldn't surprise me if it originally was and Conami just cut it out to sell separately, but that's conjecture.

It's giving me some Operation Raccoon City and Umbrella Corps vibes, tho. And I don't know if I can get behind a non Kojima produced MG title. It just... It feels like I'd be betraying him? It's stupid I know.

Are we ever going to get the missing content that Konami butchered from the final release? Because we all know, or should do, that there's a lot of that stuff.

Nope, Konami says that the game is complete, which we all know is false.

Though, considering how much this game cost to make, it is sort of understandable that they wouldn't want to make it.

The AI in this game is a hit-or-miss, sometimes they re smart, sometimes they re stupid, and sometimes they re blatanly cheating!!!

The cheaters usually snipers, riot gear user or gunships, though. AI in general, at least when I play it, isn't really exceptional, but they learn quickly from mistakes. Especially if you're only stick on one playstyle. And if you damage them enough.....

Then they start deploying gunship chopper, And That's Terrible.

Unless it's the Skulls, Quiet, or the enemy armored vehicles, most of the soldiers don't cheat in any way that's obvious. If anything, they're pretty easy to fool once you figure out their AI behavior and routines.

HINT: The empty magazine item is sublime for distractions, provided you don't throw it directly in front of the guard's field of view. Doesn't cost you anything in resources, either.

Later missions and many side-ops involves vehicles. Basically, by the time you get the chance to upgrade your fulton, you'll gonna need it to do Pacifist Run.

SgtRicko Since: Jul, 2009

It depends on two things:

  • 1. You're in one of the main missions, and it was designed with vehicles somewhere around the mission area.
  • 2. There's a side mission involving enemy vehicles that need to be eliminated nearby, and they responded to the backup call from an alerted outpost.

Otherwise, you'll probably only see the supply trucks respond and nothing else.

One of the missions where it's easy to see the AI vehicles cheat is "Back Up, Back Down". The first few Soviet BT Rs are slow, but the last few you need to catch drive at top speed, and will even begin to drive FASTER if alerted your presence, even faster than you possibly can if you had your own!

Only upside is that the vehicles generally have awfully narrow eyesight, and have a hard time spotting you if your camo matches the terrain.

Oh, one last thing... the enemy gunships have a great maximum view range, and once spotted they're pretty good at tracking you down. But on the flip side, all you need to do in order to avoid being spotted is simply go prone and stay still until the gunship loses interest in you. Heck, you don't even need matching camo for that particular trick to work!

Everything is incomplete. You gotta cut stuff somewhere.

I mean, it would be preferable if you kept the stuff that was very much an important part of the story, doe.

I wonder what Death Stranding's budget is like. I imagine Sony's keeping a close eye on how Brojima's spending money.

Geez, if DS ends up having Phantom Pain-like problems, Kojima's probably finished as a respected director. I'm confident, however, that DS could be in the top five best selling PS 4 titles. Let's hope that too much money doesn't get wasted.

I will always love you, TPP. Always.

Somebody claiming to be part of the team that developed MGSV prior to Kojima Production's shuttering popped up a few days ago on 4Chan. There's no way to prove if he's just full of BS, obviously, but it does sound plausible.

A few of things of note - spoilers ahoy, obviously:

  • Kojima wanted to avoid launching MGSV on the previous gen consoles and begged the Konami execs to scrap their release, primarily because of how much system compromises he was making to run on the previous-gen systems. Case in point, just having 10 guards on screen at the same time will begin to stress the engine, and 20+ will likely cause a crash, hence why there's no large scale battles or crowded environments.
  • While Kojima did a remarkable job of making MGSV run like butter on both gen consoles and even the PC (!), in reality it's not a very flexible engine. A great deal of time was spent debugging it from what was shown during the first few teaser trailers, and Konami's demands to make Fox Engine more flexible only made things worse for Kojima's team. So it's not as big a loss as we've initially thought.
  • The hardware limitations may have been the real reason Kingdom of the Flies was cut. Kojima wanted the final battle to match the artwork - a massive three way battle between Cipher, Diamond Dogs, and Eli's child army. But again, engine limitations and the difficulty in processing more than 20 NP Cs put a dent in that.
  • There was supposed to be a Chapter 3, 4, and 5. The latter two didn't last long in development once Hideo got grounded a bit and focused upon more realistic goals.... No surprise there.
  • The plot twist that Venom Snake was a mental copy of BB was planned from day one. No ass-pull whatsoever.
  • The dev personally felt that Kojima wasn't as terribly bothered by the loss of the Metal Gear franchise as most people believe. It's been hinted at before, repeatedly in fact, and the only real tragic loss was him losing the chance to work on the new Silent Hills project - Kojima and Del Toro were really looking forward to that one.
  • Code Talker and Eli were never really that central to the game. Code Talker was basically just created to act as Mr. Exposition and to deal with the Vocal Chord Parasites. Eli... well, no idea what happened there, really. He doesn't go into details on his character.

The second to last point isn't anything new.

Kojima's been trying to get out of the Metal Gear series for a long time now while Silent Hills was a new and exciting thing for everyone involved.

It would've been cool if Kojima did an alternate timeline MGS 4 where Big Boss stayed dead, Raiden stayed a Badass Normal, and the visual and audio aesthetic of MGS 2 didn't get replaced with "Sharper Image" bullshit.
