Well that’s neato. I was worried that Zero’s poor reception may have crashed the show entirely. Eddy’s work on Season 10 shows makes me hopeful to see what he does.

Here's the hoping we actually get to focus on the Reds and Blues this time. Shatter Squad can stay, just make them supporting cast instead like the Lt's on Chorus.

I'd be willing to give Shatter Squad another chance if they're given a proper storyline. If they can't hold it with a strong storyline then, yes, make them supporting cast and go back to the Reds and Blues.

Don't get me wrong, I'd be happy with the old cast back, but I think Shatter Squad does have some storyline potential — if it can be tapped into properly.

The only one's I see having potential are Axel and Phase. One is pretty much the generic leader type, West's character is largely defined by his relationship with Phase, and Raymond is just the new kid. Axel at least still has a potential dynamic with Zero (especially now that he's effectively a prisoner in his own body thanks to the Black Lotus pulling a Grand Theft Me, giving Axel the opportunity to save him), and there could be some potential in examining Phase as an individual now that she's changed sides, as well as reexamining her relationships with the others.

But I still think it would be the better move to have the main BGC return in a greater capacity. They carry the show, and even when the narrative gave the focus to people not in their group, like Carolina (initially), Kimball, and Dylan, the BGC still played a big part in the story. So I'd be fine with keeping Shatter Squad around, especially to see actual interactions between the two groups unlike that stereotypical "Millenium vs. Boomer" crap the Fortnite ad did, but don't have them be the main leads. At most, make them co-leads, but something on the level of the Chorus Cast would be more appropriate.

I... kind of want the BGC to be done before RT can ruin them. They went out on a good note and had a pretty good ride. As someone here noted, the only characters with room to develop/lack of depth are Simmons and Lopez. Give them over to Zero Season 2.

[up]That was me. And reminder, the new writer is Eddy Rivas, who did a fair bit of the writing for Season 10. I doubt they'd be "ruined" when put in the hands of someone with experience writing for them.

Season 10 and so on were great because they had 5+ seasons worth of comedic slapstick to Cerebus Retcon into a more serious plot. Now, it's hard to go back and retcon Project Freelancer, or anything else in the series, without being overly self-indulgent. The best parts of RVB were watching all of the old stuff get retconned. At this point I can't see them pulling that off well.

I just keep trying to think how they can take the individual character gags and still keep them fresh at this point.

The Chorus Trilogy didn't retcon anything though, and it's considered the best the show has to offer. The closest thing coming to a "retcon" is the fact they crashed on Chorus instead of going back to Blood Gulch, but that isn't even that noticeable since the campsite they made didn't even look like Blood Gulch.

The plot and new cast were completely different to what came before, but it had a whole 3 seasons to build it all up and get us to care about Chorus. The Reds and Blues are just along for the ride, especially at first. Seeing them adapt to a scenario that doesn't concern them at first, only for them all to join instead of being forced into it helps the audience warm up to it as well.

Season 11 brings us all the way back down from the high drama of Freelancer to the usual comedy, but Miles still put in acknowledgement of past characterization and you can see all the plot devices and later foreshadowing being set up in the background. By the time Felix properly shows himself, the intrigue pokes out of the comedy and the viewer's invested to know what's going on.

It recreates that serious hook stirring out of the comedic fluff Freelancer first gave us during the early seasons, but now done deliberately from the ground up.

Yes!

I loved Rivas work in Volume 7 and 8 of RWBY.

This gives me hope for the future.

Anyways, I saw a theory that was going on during Zero that the whole thing was a Movie by Jax.

How...would you guys have reacted to that?

EDIT:LMAO, Rebel brought it up just last page.

I'd laugh my ass off since that's exactly what the fans have wanted it to be due to how bad it was received. It would explain why it was such a Cliché Storm since, as we've seen, Jax is a horrible director, and we've already seen one of his actors was able to pass for Wash and another for Carolina, so it's not a stretch to think he got one for Tucker but not for the others due to being too nitpicky and no one fitting his standards.

EDIT: Oh... you quite literally edited in LMAO while I was typing this. ...GET OUT OF MY HEAD!!

Compared to RWBY, the fandom has diminished.

I'd accept it if it was 4 or 5 episode miniseries and clearly intended as a joke.

Before we observe that Red vs Blue's fanbase has diminished compared to RWBY's, do remember that this work is 17 seasons long, was the Flagship Series of the company since its inception, and has been around since 2003 (18 years), and RWBY since 2013 (8 years).

What are some things you'd like in the future?

I heard in the Halo games there was a thing about a Machine uprising led by Cortana.

Id be kind of interested in seeing that tying into the show somwhow.

They tried that already with Lopez and Sheila's Robot Rebellion. Didn't pan out well for them.

Entire first season in a single video now available.

On a more important note, the sponsorship ad at the beginning is done by Raymond, meaning whatever Rivas is doing, Shatter Squad is likely involved and will be sticking around. So there goes the "It was all Jax's crappy Action Movie pitch" idea.

Know what I realized that's a bit funny?

Remember back when Church was in the Epsilon Unit and he initially misremembered the Reds, causing their personalities to be wrong? Well, it's oddly prophetic of how the Reds would later get Character Development, or lack thereof.

  • Donut was, in Church's words, a "Muscle-Bound Jarhead" and acted like he was in charge. Part of Donut's character arc in the Shisno Trilogy was learning to be more assertive and ultimately becoming leader of the BGC for a time.
  • Sarge was a lot more supportive and considerate. Sarge's character arc in Season 15 lead to him being more open about how he feels about the BGC while dealing with his PTSD.
  • Grif was a lot more high strung and obsessed with cleanliness. Grif's character arc in Season's 15 and 16 had him finally put forth effort, namely for the things he cared about.
  • Simmons was pretty much identical to his real self. Simmons is the only Static Character in the cast.
  • Lopez was willing to disguise himself as Simmons if it meant being able to find out what was causing the quakes, but still left his Speech Unit in Spanish despite claims of being able to fix it himself. Season 17 had Lopez' Labyrinth Nightmare reveal that he didn't want to be understood since it was part of his identity, and that for all his claiming to despise the BGC, he still helps them and considers them his family.

Not sure if that was intentional on Jason Weight and Joe Nicolosi's part, since the two did like to Call-Back to prior seasons and bits of continuity (even if they got some wrong at times) but it's kind of funny to think that Church's misremembering of them would be similar to how they changed in hindsight.

It almost feels intentional at this point [lol]

  • Did they do this in a scene?
  • Let's see -page flip- yup
  • MAKE IT CANON CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT

Anyone else think there were initially different plans in regards to the Epsilon Fragments? The Afterbuzz stream made a point to say they were effectively the other AI Back from the Dead, albeit with their core attributes more "potent", and yet we never see that since Tucker all but says they died when the Meta's suit shut down. Anyone else think there was plans to bring them back, but for whatever reason they couldn't?

[up] IIRC, Burnie and Miles could not agree on which direction to take the series after Season 13, which is why 14 was an anthology season. There almost certainly were different plans at the time of Season 13, but then Joe Nicolosi got the showrunner job and was like "nah".
