I'm kind of wondering what connection it has to the first video though. Is this a memory being relived by Church/Tex? Or is it something else?
So far this season is confusing.
Dreamkeepers Prelude, check it out!Well I'm torn. On the one hand that was fucking awesome. On the other hand I was hoping we would finally be moving away from the Freelancer story.
Never trust anyone who uses "degenerate" as an insult. It's already been established in Word of God that the season's going to be half the Blood Gulch crew and half a Freelancer prequel.
Apparently I am adorable, but my GF is my #1 Groupie. (Avatar by Dreki-K)Right, it's not necessarily a memory, it could just be a regular non-diegetic flashback.
The coffee thing was hilarious.
Well damn, I thought it was going to be half Blood Gulch crew, half how the crew got to Blood Gulch.
Never trust anyone who uses "degenerate" as an insult.I definitely heard that this was going to be half the continuing adventures of the Blood Gulch crew done in-game, half Project Freelancer prequel done entirely by Monty Oum.
I personally don't mind. I like it, even. Monty's stuff is amazing and makes it all feel much more real. I mean yeah, RvB was funny as a simple comedy, but things inevitably evolve. I like to cite basically the only two longish running TV shows I've ever devotedly followed, Lost and Fringe, as good examples. Or many a popular anime...stuff gets bigger, changes direction, and it is what it is.
As a viewer, I got to flow through the transition from Blood Gulch Chronicles to everything afterward much more smoothly, because I only comprehensively got caught up with RvB some time last year. So maybe that has some effect on things?
Flora Segunda | World Made By Hand | Monster Blood Tattoo ^You should read these series. It could. I was really hoping that the trilogy would have brought an end to the Freelancer arc.
And we could have gotten Red vs Blue: The Blood Gulch Chronicles: The Next Generation or something.
It's not over. Not yet.I'm with Frog on this one, I admit. I still think Seasons 6 and 8 are the best ones (in that order), and even in terms of the comedy I liked the later seasons of Blood Gulch where it was more focused/plot-driven. I also find the Freelancers plotline interesting (and want to see more Washington and York).
I think they've got a pretty good balance of comedy and drama going. I can see how the comedy fans would miss the old stuff (I'd be lying if I said I didn't think the first ep of this season was hilarious), but I can understand the RvB folks wanting to move onto something weightier, and I think they've actually done a good job of doing so.
Speaking of this week's ep, I liked getting to finally meet the mysterious North, although now it just makes later events even more sad, as he seems pretty cool so far...

Apparently I am adorable, but my GF is my #1 Groupie. (Avatar by Dreki-K)Knowing very little about the goals of either group here, I felt kind of bad for the guy with the coffee. I imagine he was bringing coffee to have with his buddy, and ended up pretty much knowingly sacrificing his life to warn everyone else. Godspeed, dude who was onscreen for like twenty seconds and had no lines and then got killed.
Speaking of that guy, I'm pretty sure he stayed falling in slow motion while South started moving in real time.

Text I feel is necessary to append to every post.Yeah, the Freelancers being jerkasses to random grunts just trying to do their jobs is a running theme throughout the series.
(...well, OK, technically everybody being a jerkass to everyone else in general is a running theme throughout the series, but the non-Freelancers don't kill people while doing it quite as often.)
Apparently I am adorable, but my GF is my #1 Groupie. (Avatar by Dreki-K)I have to freely admit that I was never able to follow the plotline of the more story-driven seasons; I got the big plot twists but could never keep track of the various characters named after states. One of these days I should go back and watch them straight.
@Cidolfas
But all the characters are Color-Coded for Your Convenience! </halfserious>
It actually is worth going back and rewatching it. Even back in the more pure comedy days it was amazing how many Brick Jokes, Chekhov's Guns and Call Backs there were. There's still some plotholes and whatnot (especially with some of the later retcons), but it still holds together remarkably well and detailed for what started out as an episodic Work Com.

Apparently I am adorable, but my GF is my #1 Groupie. (Avatar by Dreki-K)I must say, comedic shows that get plot seriousness are rather a pet peeve of mine, especially if they do humor well, but Rv B has handled that change very well, namely in that it never stopped being funny. I do feel it's become more plot as opposed to character-driven over the past few seasons, but not to a detrimental degree. That said, my biggest problem with the more recent seasons is that they still haven't found a villain/antagonist nearly as good or as entertaining as O'Malley was, and I eagerly await his role in the Freelancer backstory.

I'll turn your neocortex into a flowerpot!Anyone else find the new version of Donut completely awesome? I just love how he merges the gay innuendo with the new gruff Blood Knight persona.
These are the words that shall come from my mouth. I shall be known for speaking them.I love the new more Confident Corrupted memory Donut. Somehow him not being a total pansy and still saying innuendoes makes it a million times funnier.
Theories on Mint-Armor #1 Freelancer? My guess is CT, if only because we already know that she was a freelancer and she lacked Tex's voice. Although, #1 was pretty badass, and what we saw of CT was almost like a Freelancer flunkie, reduced to base manipulation and bullying.
"Teebs is a total grump, but he's usually right." - NLKMaybe she's the real Tex?
Another mostly Freelancer episode...well at least the narrative is getting back to the fake regular guys.
Never trust anyone who uses "degenerate" as an insult.Caught up today. Honestly, I'm not feeling Project Freelancer. They're interesting enough, but if I wanted a story about damn-near invincible supersoldiers doing crazy things I'd play regular Halo. I am enjoying the whole "corrupted memory" spin on the original series though. Honestly, I wouldn't mind if they focused solely on that.
Against all tyrants.I took it for granted that mint-armored freelancer #1 was Tex. It just seemed to me like what they were trying to set up. Was that really not her voice? I was never so good at telling them apart sometimes.
I agree that the corrupted-memory storyline is great, but I love the freelancer segments too. I'm easily wowed by awesome fight scenes and since I more or less don't actually play Halo, it's not like I'm over-saturated with hearing about supersoldiers.
And I'm just a not very picky kind of entertainment consumer, I guess. As said above.
I was thrown, however, by the episode focusing on both storylines. I thought they were going to alternate...
Flora Segunda | World Made By Hand | Monster Blood Tattoo ^You should read these series.Watching Red vs Blue... (and I wait for it on DVD to digest all at once)
I can't help but wish they would just do that bloody Halo movie with this kind of set up. You could do a great one at a fraction of the price the live action was going to cost.
So has Tex not shown up yet? If it wasn't for the helmet and color I thought that #1 was Tex, I couldn't tell the difference in the voice. Heck, I couldn't tell the difference between #1 and the Pelican pilot (I thought that might be Tex when I saw the season trailer).
I still think that Allison (Person Tex is based on) is the ship pilot. In the trailer for this season it's shown that she and the Director know each other.
So "The Twins" was pretty badass.
