I saw both the reveal that Spider-Man being with the Avengers was temporary and Jamerson attitude about him joining a mile away. Seriously they need to add depth to him.

Jonah is an awful character when he's onedimensional (even more than most onedimensional characters) but great when he's multilayered. It's kind of a shame J.K. Simmons has never been given a chance to play a multi-faceted Jonah, because he would kill it even more there (his performance in the movies was great, but let's be honest, it achieved to little else than comic relief).

[up]While I quite agree, the amount of depth doesn't have to be much. I mean the 90's Spider-Man and to a lesser degree the Spectacular Spider-Man gave him at least enough character to be interesting. The Flanderization just makes no sense as they've never spent time in the same space, and there's no given reason for the hatred. Seriously other Jamesons would question his attitude.

Yeah I don't like this Jameson.

He's a bloody Hypocrite. Literally every superhero or Spider-Man impersonator (minus the Hulk and the Agents of Smash) he considers to be the "true heroes"; despite that they cause as much collateral damage as Spider-Man.

[up][up]Is it correct to call this flanderization?

[up]Yeah, this bothers me as well. Even moreso in regards to the impersonator part since almost everyone seems to get hit by the stupid stick.

[up]To answer you I give you the first sentence of the trope article on this site: "The act of taking a single (often minor) action or trait of a character within a work and exaggerating it more and more over time until it completely consumes the character." In Jameson's case, his hatred of Spider-Man has been exaggerated to such a degree, when before his issue was with those who hid behind masks an operated above the law. This was why Jameson took issue with other vigilantes, and Spider-Man was a personal beef. Here it's Spider-Man and Spider-Man alone An episode of Hulk and the Agents of S.M.A.S.H. that feature Ego the living planet shows this, as Jameson claims it's a plot by Spider-Man, even though Spider-Man is never featured or shown in the episode.

Flanderization isn't quite the right word, no, since these are single adaptations in a situation where the source material has a lot more depth. Also, the characterization used here and in the movies is Jameson's original, pre-character development personality - it's no longer in use to the extent that the movies and this show use it - so it's also a case of them choosing iconic over depth, which is a shame.

Character Exaggeration works, tho.

To Cross:

Gonna go ahead and finally give you a basic rundown of the first five issues of Nova's run. (Feeling kind of lazy, so this won't be a complete summary of events or anything like that.)

Where to start....

In the comics, Sam's dad used to be a Nova and tells his kids stories about his old Nova days. He's now a washed up drunk who works as the school janitor. He tells his kids a story or two involving him and his team saving Rocket and Gamora. One of his team members is the tiger guy. Sam's dad mentions how he quit the Novas to spend time with his kids. Anyways, Jesse (I believe that's the name of Sam's dad.) goes missing one day, and Sam goes out to find him. However, it isn't too long until Sam hits his head and sent to the hospital. When he wakes up, he sees Rocket and Gamora there. With his dad missing, they decide they need him instead. Sam freaks out and stuff happens. Later on, Sam puts on his dad's helment and becomes a Nova for the first time. My mind is running a blank on what happens next, but eventually Sam meets Utau who warns him of upcoming danger, and Sam gets discharged from the hospital. Gamora and Rocket seek out Sam again and decide to train him. Also, somewhere along the way, Sam gets his hands on the Ultimate Nullifer. Sam decides to hide it, and the tiger guy shows up. We find out that the tiger guy was left for dead at one point (or something like that) and decided to team up the alien dudes to save his own skin. Also, tiger guy resents Jesse for abandoning his team.

This rundown is getting kind of long, so I'm gonna skip ahead. Long story short, Sam uses the nullifer to wipe out the alien dudes and tiger guy goes with team. Sam gives the nullifier to Utau. In the epilogue, we see that Sam's dad isn't dead but is a prisoner on some alien planet.

Not the greatest summary/rundown in the world, but, hopefully, you get the idea.

Um... is that from some sort of retcon or animated tie-in comic? I own reprints of the first few issues of Nova's original comics run and his origin didn't go like that at all there.

[up] Which Nova? Because that's how stuff more or less went down in the first five issues of Sam's run. Of course, I wasn't consulting the comics when I wrote that up, so which parts do you have issues with?

[up]i think [up][up]means dick rider nova, not sam nova.

[up][up]dick has been something for a few years along with the nova force and the new nova sam is a "black nova" with his own version of the nova force

[up]I think if Rider ever shows up on this show, they're just gonna call him Richard, for some reason.

Of course, don't you know anything about ALCHEMY?!- Twin clones of Ivan the Great

Would Rich ever show up in this show? It was mentioned that Sam was the only Nova left in the second Guardians episode. Also wonders if we'll ever get Sam's origin story or not.

This show has grown the beard a lot!

While it still treats it's audience like idiots. How many times have they introduced spiders friends?. The show seems to think we will forget who is spiderman is every episode.

It is showing a side of Peter that not even Spectacular or animated did that is the fact that he makes people better and inspires others to be better. to vulture "the past is the past" to fury "they can be better people" etc

However I still think this peter has had it too easy. Animated and spectacular had to deal with venom and the sinister six without any friends or shield as a back up and were stronger because of it.

Also squirrel girl was amazing[lol].

I personally disagree with you Known Unknown, about Jameson at least a little. Comparing it to past series, okay that comment made sense. But I reread the classic Spider-Man stories you can use a framework, and even then if feels like Flanderization. In the first year of strips he's played as a Spider-Man hater, but we get some signs he's also a publisher who loves his son. Not much depth, but still a for the time three dimensional character. Up until Man Wolf hatred for Spider-Man is Jameson's sole quality. If we saw him perhaps commenting about the news on the Jumbotrons more often, It would feel like a newsman who feels the local hero is a menace. As it stands he feels like a pundit who has the funds to establish a twenty-four hour I hate Spider-Man channel.

While this isn't saying much for Jameson, I recall a moment from Season 2 where he announced on the jumbotron that he was criticized for not being "fair and balanced", and set up an interview with a Spider-Man fan......only to have the screen smashed before the interview could even begin.

So yeah, his character in this series serves no other purpose than a Running Gag.

Unlike the Carnage symbiote, Man-Spider wasn't a different entity. It was Spider-Man's own monstrous side in of himself.

Also it's only been like two episodes since he appeared. I imagine a Man-Spider story arc around that time in season three would have been pointless considering what was going on with Taskmaster.

Quick question, does "The Return of the Guardians of the Galaxy" take place after "New Warriors" or something?

[up][up][up] Carnage was nothing more than Venom reinserted into Peter, so how was that so different from the Man-Spider?

And I didn't say it needed an arc, just not use in a way that felt like padding.
