What's incredibly cool is that when I did the very first fitting, he informed me that he was going to stop shaving until I had it finished, and then get shaved with muttonchops. And he did. Tonight, when he saw it, he went around the corner to the hair salon and had 'em do it right then. The style suits him (except for the buzzcut.)

AND three other guys have already expressed interest and not one of them blinked at the price I quoted, even though I told them the price was still in the Scientific Wild-Ass Guess stage.

So, now I need to decide on the company name: Sleeping Vixen, Drowsy Vixen, or Dreaming Vixen? Or should I use Fox instead of Vixen? All of them seem to be available as .com domains....

I did. But when I thought about it, I'd really like to use the sleeping fox. The Axe Foxx is cute, but I think not for a logo...

Mock ups of gloves with scraps of blue fabric◊, from a pattern I downloaded months ago and modified beyond recognition to fit my hands. I'll be hand-sewing both the mockup and the good fabric. There is absolutely no way I will try to maneuver a machine needle around a quarter-inch U curve.

A friend of mine once told me about a cuff she had to make for a Juliet that was an inch wide and had 17 pieces.

If I remember correctly it was a two piece cuff that included a sheer overlay and a trim that was built up from several different trims and a button loop. If it's an inch wide, use a couple of Sharpie's and call it done for Pete's sake.

Augh, my scanner broke! This is really quite frustrating. Does anyone know where I could get one fixed?

Maddy, if you're curious, this◊ is the other design I had in mind. I haven't used acrylics for a long time, so I messed it up, unfortunately. I think the brighter colours and sharper lines make it more suitable as a logo, but Sleeping Foxxy is very cute...

My sympathies, DG. I don't see any part of that thing that assembling a couple hundred or thousand in a day wouldn't hurt.

On the smoking jacket front, I may need to move the conversation over to the "The Office" thread. I have two more orders (with measurements taken) and the sloper for one of them ready for the fitting. Plus at least three more guys who haven't said for sure yet, but are talking about what style and what color they would want. This thing looks like it may stop being "crafty-stuff I do 'cause I like to" and become "my work." That would be both cool and scary.

So...with Boo-Boo and the Rook moving in, we had to condense our office down to a single desk. Fortunately I had a six-foot section of built-in shelf to take on the job. Unfortunately, it required I cut grommet holes for cords...and the hole saw I acquired for the task was not nearly sharp enough to cut through the tough-as-hell laminate the shelf was made of.

Solution; totally dull up a 3/4 spade bit by using it to hog out explanation

the hole, then remove the remainder with a chisel. This is a pretty standard tactic for making big holes in things, although most cabinet-makers would have cried to see me taking a chisel to plastic laminate.

Ah well, necessity breeds tool abuse.

Anyhow, DG just got done wiring everything up. Desk is so totally ghetto, but we didn't put it in to look pretty. We put it in to hold our computers for six months or so. All it has to do is not fall down during that time.

Is it tacky to start off making a nursing cover for your sister and then appropriate it for yourself?
