Discussion for those who can pretend to be over 17, and have something to say.

Where the adults discuss life while they watch the children play. The kids are welcome if they behave, but must leave the water balloons at the stairs.

So...can we have an opposite subforum then, for talking about cartoons and sugary snacks and general manchildishness?

There is the whole rest of the forum.

Western Animation? IJAM? tongue

But seriously, if you have something thoughtful to say about sugary sweets or cartoons, COBbies love reminiscing.

There's also the rest of the forum for those who want to have COB-type discussion. I don't see the difference.

The goal is a high-signal conversation, basically. You can have debates in Yack Fest, sure, but most prefer OTC for that.

And decorum is expected more here. Not shouting.

If my thoughts on this aren't clear, I'll restate them:

I think that making what is by all appearances an "old people" subforum without making something that is by all appearances a "young people" subforum is unfair, and smells suspiciously like elitism.

I'm not going to accuse anyone of being deliberately unfair. I just don't think the proper amount of thought was put into this.

Everything else is the youngun forum.

This is more like an alternate OTC. The rules for OTC are "stay on topic". The rules for here are "please no shouting".

I'm with blackat on that. The entire rest of the forum is the "Young people" section.

I agree with Spain.

All of the threads here could easily be placed in the Media forums or in Yack Fest. To create another subforum for people who prefer a certain style of discussion without creating a subforum for people who prefer the opposite style of discussion seems kinda elitist to me, even if that is not the intent.

Or, to go with what Charlatan said, why not have a subforum for people who enjoy "shouting" (which I assume means "shitposting")?

Wasn't discussion tone one of the reasons IJBM was closed?

I don't really think we should be having boards based solely on what tone you want your discussion to be in. Or if we do, we should have them for all of them. Quiet and contemplative and loud and noisy.

@Central: A shouting subfora might likely lead to the /b/ side. Remember what happened with IJBM? Imagine that except the subfora would also encourage users to yell all the time.

Can't see it working.

IJBM was shut down for being a drama bomb.

That's not what we're proposing here. We're proposing silliness.

Which is a lost art, if you ask me.

CA: But don't we have two seperate Pony threads? And don't Yackfest, OTC, and IJAM threads frequently overlap?

Exactly.

If we're going for a more thorough forum subdividing, you might as well start being a lot more strict about what goes where, first of all, and then make the silly board.

I don't like all the SERIOUS BUSINESS that gets into Yackfest, IJAM, and OTC. I also am not always in the mood for serious intellectual discussion.

I don't think I should have to pick between those two things.

^^ Yes. We also have entire subforums for literature, anime, video games, and other things that now have OFH threads.

^ See, you're phrasing this stuff so much better than I can.

On that note, why is the YF pony thread bigger than the Western Animation one?

Because everyone is too scared to go in WA.

Listen, I'm not going to lie. I am kind of annoyed by this. But the annoyance is mostly due to being sleepy. Mostly, I just want a place where I can post LIEK THIS without people telling me to GTFO and not have to go to /b/ to do it. Because when I'm this tired, that's about all I want to do.

And if the COB thread got its own subforum, I don't see why the Trash Heap shouldn't get its own.

I don't know. It just seems wrong to me to make a separate subform for "mature" discussion threads (which could just as easily go in YF) without making a subforum for specifically silly threads (which, admittedly, could also just as easily go in YF).

^ As was COB, before tonight. If it can expand to a whole subform, why can't the Trash Heap?
