Page split?: To Aru Majutsu No Index

I was thinking that the main article should be split into two pages already: To Aru Majutsu No Index and To Aru Kagaku No Railgun, but the trope sorting is kind of getting in the way. Help with page split please?

Uh, no. I don't think it needs to be split. It's fine the way it is.

I don't either. They share a cast, a universe and the same timeline with different starting points.

I'm against the split as well. This isn't the situation that was had with Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha, as that one needed splitting.

I have spoken with others in the Index forum thread. I have created a page for To Aru Kaguku No Railgun. If it is unsatisfactory, I will go about deleting it. Apologies if anyone feels slighted by this initiative, a simple word can revert us back to the status quo.

I'm for a split because I can't see much reason to combine them in the first place. Why should a spinoff be on the same page?

I agree to a split For the above reason, and due to the sheer size of the article, it has been divided into separate pages, so Railgun should be moved to its own page like Mass Effect.

^Mass Effect was split because it was over the size limit. This page is only at 60% of it or so.

Railgun has only a few tropes that are unique when compared to Index though it wouldn't shorten it much and would make things messy.

It is less than 100k characters away from appearing on Fast Eddie's Big Page Lock report, at which time it will be split, quite possibly by someone who doesn't know how it should best be done due to being unfamiliar with the series.

Knowing that it's getting close, the most prudent move for fans of the page would be to figure out the best way it should be split up to preempt it from appearing on that thread.

I'd suggest three pages.

• Literature.To Aru Majutsu No Index (Novel)
• Anime.To Aru Majutsu No Index (Anime)
• Main.To Aru Kagaku No Railgun (Anime and Manga)

Hmm. I'd say we can keep the novels and anime for Index together. Despite what opinions people have about J.C. Staff, it was adapted quite closely.

The novels are way, way ahead of the anime, by separating them, we make it so people can actual use the page without having spoiled themselves silly on the novels.

Its really hard to have any sort of discussion about this franchise if you don't want to be spoiled.

With that logic, any show that is sufficiently behind its source material should have a different page. Maybe we could have it split into folders "tropes covered in the anime and novels", and "tropes in the light novels".

And that would be a problem...why?

Its not like we have a limitation on wiki pages or anything. And the Namespaces exist for a reason.

Regardless, it should definitely be split between Index and Railgun, at the very least.

Well, it already is split, I did it earlier today. Concerning problems with splitting the novels and anime, people would have to constantly change the pages. Assuming next season comes along of course. I'm fine with that, but some may consider it a pain.

Also, what split did you do? To Aru Kagaku No Railgun is still a redirect to Index. I thought the idea was to split to different pages.

I suppose we will have to eliminate that redirect. I forgot about that. If you will look on the Index page description, there is a line about the Railgun spinoff page.

The problem with having a separate page from the novels and the anime is that, as the anime catches up, you will eventually have nearly duplicate pages, which is fairly pointless. This is why we don't have separate pages for Anime and Manga series, unless the Anime is vastly different from the Manga.

To me the most sensible split would be to:

A.) Make an article for the series in general, and place the Shared tropes in that article. This article will link to both Index and Railgun, and as a bonus will be there to accept any future links for future spinoff series.
B.) Make a page for Railgun, and move tropes specific to Railgun there.
C.) Leave the tropes specific to Index where they are, but rework the description to be Index only, since Railgun will be covered by its own page.

This is from an outsider's perspective, as I know nothing about the series beyond what I can see from glancing at the page, so take this with a grain of salt.

You mean how to stop the Railgun page from redirecting to Index?

Edit it here and remove the redirect tag.

You can edit any of the other redirects by replacing "ToAruKagakuNoRailgun" in the URL with the name of the article you want to edit.

Other than fixing that redirect, one thing we should do before really shifting into gear is fixing the title. I spelled it wrong. Must have been tired.
