...if something is true then it can't offend people

..............??????????????????

What...what...I'm sorry, no offense, but.......what UVIVERSE are you living in? The truth can INFLAME people if it's phrased in an offensive way (as in this case) or it's something they don't want to hear. Just look at how angry some conservatives get over the theory of evolution, despite the overwhelming evidence for it.

Sorry, should have said "shouldn't" be offended by something that is true. If I was told I was a stupid bastard and people provided evidence to support it, hells I wouldn't be offended.

Its the truth afterall, how can something be offensive if it is true? OFC as I mentioned prior then we get into a semantics debate about "truth" and the abuse of statistics, so we better not go into this in more detail.

Sure, but the truth is subjective. Obviously, if Alice thinks something Bob said about her is true, then she may not be offended by it.

Hence, I say, "You're ugly," and I think it's true, while you don't. I say, "You're fat," and I think it's true, while you don't. I say, "You're a waste of space," and I think it's true, while you don't. Contrariwise, you could say the same to me, all while thinking it's true.

Doesn't mean that it's not offense.

I think what you're getting at is that facts aren't offensive. I tell you, "Gravity exists and works very well," and you fly off the handle about what a dipshit I am, it may look ridiculous.

Facts are (usually) concrete, truth is subjective.

The problem is that truth is only "subjective" a limited number of ways, then it just becomes lying again. In this case I would argue that the vast amount of evidence gathered showing that this sort of thing is neither attractive or good for either party renders the article "true", and as such it is odd to get angry about it.

In a vain attempt to tie this back to the topic at hand, the truth about Nice Guys and who is one is incredibly subjective, since it seems to be based on Alice's observation that Bob is a Nice Guy, and Bob's reflection of his own actions in his pursuit of Alice. Bob may not claim that he's a Nice Guy, but may have self confidence issues that he can't see and that no one is telling him he has, and Alice may be leading Bob along hoping that he'll come to his senses, develop some confidence, and start acting like a more attractive partner. Or Alice may have clearly told Bob, "No," which Bob clearly doesn't understand, since Alice also said that she's looking for a guy with X, Y, and Z traits that Bob knows he possesses.

Part in parcel behind the thread's many page count is because many guys have to ask themselves and others, "Am I a Nice Guy?" to which everyone responds, "Mmmmmmwell, it depends."
