Planned parenthood, which provides supplies (including condoms, lubrication and STD protection), examinations (including gynecological and STD screenings) and information about sexual practices to lower income people. They do not ask questions beyond what is required to help and does not judge.

And funding was cut based upon a lie.

Thoughts? How has Planned Parenthood helped you or someone you know? Should funding be cut anyway?

I've checked the fora for other threads on this topic and came up with nothing. I know that there has been a tangential discussion on other threads, but no direct threads.

Please be a successful topic!

Well, hopefully when the rise in abortions due to lack of access to birth control is noticed, they'll change their mind.

Excuse me as I make a bloody red mark on the wall next to me using only my head.

Okay, good? We'd be able to pay for this if taxes were raised. Beyond that, if this continues, this won't be the only good office to go.

Not done the article, but doesn't this need to pass the senate? and get Obama's approval?

If it hasn't already, cuts to PP's funding will be in a "compromise" with Republicans. Mark my words.

Don't know about that, it's highly advantageous to the liberals to have a great example of "socialist" healthcare in action.

Should funding be cut anyway?

Yes.

No, funding shouldn't be cut. It provides a vital service to thousands of poor people across the nation. And I'm not talking about abortions.

It's also not hyperbole when I say that Planned Parenthood saved my life by being a low-cost provider of birth control. Without them, I quite literally would have bled to death.

As much as I dislike abortion, I've got to say that cheap education and contraception is a good thing, and I dislike seeing good thrown out with the bad.

Considering that PP probably prevents more abortions than they cause, this is more like throwing the baby out with the bath water.

Fucking neocons.

Not done the article, but doesn't this need to pass the senate? and get Obama's approval?

The House can deny funding all on its own. There might be some restrictions on that, but Planned Parenthood funding isn't covered even if there are. It might be reinstated during reconciliation.

Planned Parenthood would be far less hated if they did not provide abortions. Giving tax dollars to an organization that provides abortions is clearly a boondoggle and needs to go. If PP cares about their services to the poor and indigent that much, then let them stop providing abortions and appeal for reinstatement of the funding.

Except the republicans want to cut all of PP's funding which is a big no-no. Not to mention that abortion is legal, they really need to get over it and move on.

[up] While I agreed with your sentiment, it's not exactly outside their (neo cons) rights to do this.

What's there to say? Another scapegoat to distract people with.

True, a majority still support state-funded contraceptives. But just give the disinformation a few years to take root. Soon we'll be begging Republicans to ban the pill.

Zolnier, going to need you to get a little more specific about that statement. It's not like people will start taking guns to babies' heads en mass since that's definitely against the law.

No but I can imagine alot of babies ending up either dead or in shitty conditions because of parents who cant take care of them.
