Father is hands down my favorite character in Brotherhood so he beats Dante all day everyday. When it comes to comparing the two of them, Father benefits from the whole series logically leading up to the big showdown with him. I prefer 2003 anime but there is no denying it has less direction than Brotherhood.
I still enjoy Dante though in a Love to Hate kind of way. She's just not particularly intriguing while Father is the most intriguing character in the whole franchise to me.

For the love of god man! Context! CONTEXT!!!!
One Strip! One Strip! What are you talking about?
Non Indicative UsernameI just saying, that's a sentence that can easily be misconstrued, even if Dante is an evil bitch.
I was trying to make a funny joke, and now it's ruined via explanation.
One Strip! One Strip!Sex is the punchline.
"Curry killed the pussy hoping that I could kill the hate in you" - Curry, D. "TABOO | TA13OO." TA13OO, PH, 2018Dante, for all her power and evilness, is pretty much a human villain, with human motivation and worries and pettiness we can relate to.
Father, in the other hand, start as alien and end up as alien.
Compared them is a bit like comparing grapes and melon.
I liked Father overall - he was creepily funny when he needed to be, straight-up creepy when he needed to be, and terrifying when he needed to be, which is just about all you can ask from a villain. Especially after he crosses the Bishounen Line and turns into the beautiful, blonde-haired youth, slaughtering soldiers and single-handedly holding off the entire cast of characters, all with a look of eerie, vaguely annoyed indifference on his face.
But I think the moment where he acquired the most genuine depth for me was at the very end, when the Truth is sending him through the door, and all he can do is beg and wail, "what was I supposed to do?" The last time we ever see him, he's desperately - and genuinely - trying to comprehend what he did that was wrong. Arakawa managed to take the archvillain's ultimate defeat and turn it into a borderline Tear Jerker, because in that moment, you feel almost sorry for him.

"We'll take the next chance, and the next, until we win, or the chances are spent.""Despair for the conceited. That is the end you wished for."
but HOW?I rather liked Father because, well his inhuman nature came from how human his origin was.
He was made from the blood of a human to make... well another human. Using DNA to make another person. Humans do that all the time, but not like that.
His... static character also made sense when you really look at his homunculi and how those that are static are the ones that never defy him or work outside him.
It has been said before, separating his "sins" from himself made him the ultimate inhuman mess. Greed is the most human homunculi because he left and went out of his way to get what he wants. Including developing his character, because if you want to get people, you can't just force em in. Only few people go for force, go for charisma and charm. People like a charismatic individual.
Hi! I just started watching FMA: Brotherhood! Up to about episode 5. I've known about the series for awhile, and a lot of spoilers.
I haven't learnt a lot about the lore and world, yet. But I've thought about thought about the possibility of an AU where Ed and Al are Ishvalan, which is a concept that really interests me. I might write a fanfiction about it somewhere along the lines... Does anyone have any thoughts about it? I was wondering if the two would be treated differently for it. And the idea of having two Ishvalans work for the Amestris military, who fought against the Ishvalans, does interest me...
That's an interesting idea, especially considering the traditional Ishvalan stance on alchemy, as well as various other things in the show relating to Ishval that I can't mention because spoilers.
So I'm going to suggest you finish Brotherhood before you put too much thought into it, but I'll be happy to read it if/when you do write it.

PSN ID: FateSeraph Congratulations! She/TheyI certainly think it's a good idea. I've actually seen this idea proposed on Tumblr before - I'd look for it (or ask someone else to), but it's probably pretty spoilery. The general conceit, though, was for Trisha to be an Ishvalan but living in Resembool (their dad can't be Ishvalan for plot reasons that you are nowhere near getting to yet).
Anyway, glad to hear you're liking the series so far. Any thoughts on the characters yet?

Oh God! Natural light! Thanks! I'm definitely going to finish Brotherhood before I start writing anything. My progress might be slow because I'm actually watching the series with my mom.
Ah! Really? I'm only up to episode 5. So I'm definitely going to wait.
I really like the characters so far! They're all very well-written. One of my favorites is Roy, as well as Riza, who saved his ass from Scar. I'm also really intrigued with Scar as well.
I know Ling exists, but I haven't met him yet. I think I'll really like him, though.
FMAB is based after the manga which boasts solid character writing.
I recommend reading the manga to see all the stuff that was skipped, yes
If you've watched the first anime, I recommend sticking it out through the first dozen episodes or so of Brotherhood despite the fact that they're covering the same material but Brotherhood's version is much more rushed. The first anime spent more time on those events and fleshed them out a lot, but after they hit the branching point where the first anime cut off its tail and f*cked off to do its own thing, Brotherhood gets a lot better.
Pretty much everything from the moment you meet Ling is gold.
If you haven't seen the first anime, don't bother. It got really stupid after the Gecko point and is basically the same story with a bunch of filler in the middle of it through that point. And after that point, it still hits a lot of the same notes, it just hits them poorly. It's like watching a knock-off Korean ripoff of the series, where you go, "Aha, I know what you're referencing with that moment, but damn if the real version didn't do it a lot better," every two minutes.

My Tumblr. Currently liveblogging Haruhi Suzumiya and revisiting Danganronpa V3.I was gonna watch both! But thank ya'll for telling me all of this! I'm really enjoying the series!
I'm only up to episode 6 because I'm watching with my family. ;w; But I'm really looking forward to meeting both Ling and...Kimblee? I think that was his name!
Kimblee is a fascinating case at looking at a villain.
I've heard very mixed things about the first anime, but the only things I'm certain of are:
- For stuff that both anime covered (that is, everything before the fight with Greed), the first anime did it better.
- You're more likely to enjoy the first anime if you watch it before Brotherhood.
I disagree with the first part.
Non Indicative UsernameMost people that prefer Full Metal Alchemist: Brotherhood to Full Metal Alchemist (2003) do tell anyone new to the series to see the first 25 episodes of Full Metal Alchemist (2003) before switching to Full Metal Alchemist: Brotherhood for this reason.
The second point I'm less sure of personally, even though I like both.

I find it funny that Manga!Sloth is too lazy to have a personality.
I think Manga!Gluttony should die first and Manga!Lust should stay around a bit longer. Gluttony is a dumb muscle guy who you can plan strategies around and have little room for development, while Lust is smarter, more scheming (which adds to the conspiracy thriller plot), and can have deeper interactions with other characters.
