It reminded me of Mai Chans Daily Life. Oh that last chapter. So much giggling...

[up][up]I'm strongly against abortion, but I confess I had to suppress a giggle too.

I also have the urge to dub a screaming baby over the first one. God, I hear so many screaming children during the day, that I would not be opposed to shooting them.

@DG: ...that could be construed as a "very late term abortion".

@Aon: I hear them all day at work. Mothers who bring screaming children into stores should be shot as well.

I'd be fine with that. No kids after I die.

First Video: Hope they didn't pay those actors, they were terrible. Also, word of advice to the dad: Stand further away from kids when you shoot them so you don't get blood splatter on you, less evidence, just sayin.

Second Video: Tee-hee, bunnies and babies in blenders. Also, enough with targeting Planned Parenthood, abortion is such a small fraction of what they do and are about, but the religious right makes it look like the express purpose of the organization is to give people abortions. Their encouraging of responsible sex and contraceptive use stops more abortions than they perform.

@Barkey: well, that's why the religious abortion objectors lose all credibility. If they really wanted to stop abortion they'd be donating money to planned parenthood (for the reasons you listed). Instead, they're trying to put women back in the Dark Ages, and likely cause more abortions than they prevent.

It has nothing to do with the rights of the unborn, and everything to do with subjugation. They'll go after men too, once they figure a big enough issue to hide their motives behind.

[up] I take offense at that. Not all people who object to abortion due to their religion are rampaging misogynists.

Those videos in the OP are freaking hilarious. The only people who would be swayed by them would be the ones who are already fervent pro-life activists in the first place.

If you want to see REALLY obnoxious anti-abortion videos, type in "theprolifeguy" on You Tube. wink

If they wanted to do some good, they would start an organization that is all about the same things as planned parenthood, minus abortion, and then fund the shit out of it.

I wish this would hurry up and get to the violent boiling point that it eventually will.

Does anyone remember the hamster in a blender flash from like a billion years ago? I was just so immensely disappointed when they cut away from that bunny. I also thought they could have really punched up the sound effects. You know. Added that real steak and bone sound of a creature being blended.

I mean the first commercial was laughable. I literally guffawed when the guy came back with his hands all blood splattered. I mean practically speaking that is almost impossible with a shotgun but it is so patently silly I just couldn't keep smiles off my face.

I was truly hoping for some mangled fetus videos. Something with real punch not that watered down BS. I mean really people. Could you at least do your asshole job well. There is no excuse for form that bad.

@Loni: maybe not, but I'd bet you sex to doughnuts that the one's kyping Planned Parenthood's funding are. And they make up the majority. By the by, are you a woman, and if so what's your beef with the concept of abortion?

My understanding is that this stuff is pretty common i.e. mainstream in terms of the anti-abortion movement. And yes, it's not really intended to change minds, it's intended to intensify the emotions on the issue and create a more committed movement.

And yes, the people who are both anti-abortion and pro-birth control unfortunately are really a small group on the fringes of the anti-abortion movement. (To the degree where in my experience if you scratch it a bit you'll find someone who really is pro-choice) The major institutional players in this are pretty much all anti-birth control.

So in short, they're really just anti-sex, but try to mask it with anti-abortion combined with anti-birth control to appear less prudish?

I don't think it's so much anti-sex as much as it is pro-"order". That is, encouraging people to live their life in a relatively narrow way in order to feel like their way is the dominant and powerful way. Which is why generally the large scale anti-abortion (and anti-homosexual) arguments at their core are about maintaining the social order.

Those are perhaps the most vocal, but I don't think they're the biggest group numbers-wise.

Speaking of my own experience, the only pro-life advertising I've seen is billboards along the highway that say "You couldn't be pro-choice if your mother had had an abortion," and pictures of fetuses and the words "Choose Life". Hardly offensive, but I'm really not sure that they achieve much anyway.

Do bacteria have heart beats?

No, being unicellular life forms they have no organs to speak of. The closest analog would be Organelles.

I know I am not the first to say this but those videos were a joke. A bunny in a blender? Really? Why not use a real image?

Doesn't the republican party believe the public is strong enough to see what the aftermath of an abortion really looks like?

Really, the sheer blitheness of that ad when implying the killing of a child to get there is more deeply disturbing than anything the anti-abortion videos could possibly have come up with.
