Anti-Abortion Videos

First off, I just want to say that this is not an abortion thread. If you would like to discuss abortion in general, we have threads for that.

Anyway, I just watched two videos that portray abortion in a fairly extreme way. What does everyone else think about these portrayals, and how effective do you think the videos will be at changing people's minds?

Are these joke videos?

It's an appeal to emotion. Even with the sound off, the second one got to me.

Can't say how effective they'll be, though.

The people who made those videos are a bunch of sick fucks.

A Christian friend linked me to some of these EXTREME!!!!!!111 anti-abortion vids, probably expecting me to be shocked and appalled; her attempt (if I guess her motivation correctly) proved unsuccessful.

I have seen some anti-abortion images backfire with people, yes.

I think they're trying to cash in on the fact that we're visual creatures - but I think if they managed to convey the smell via the internet, they'd really hit paydirt.

Not to mention, the aftermarket keyboard sector would have more business, as vomit isn't good for keyboards.

Both those attempts have failed to sway me in any form. Both just made me laugh. This is me though...

People with tape over their mouths ought to be forbidden from posting videos to Youtube.

The vids my friend linked actually showed foeti getting cut up; the Ironeye links are considerably more restrained.

The second one confuses me. As a very moderate Pro-Lifer, I think we should keep tax dollars flowing towards Planned Parenthood, so we can educate more people and prevent unwanted pregnancies. That, in turn, would lower abortion rates, because less people will need them, but they're still there if necessary. That's why I would prefer.

I've seen vids like that too. Still haven't swayed me.

These videos make me want to scream. Silently.

I'll pass on clicking those video until tomorrow. I'd like to be able to sleep tonight. Regardless, go extremists who don't represent your side correctly! Or the other side. Or even the entire point being argued.

I didn't actually watch them all the way through because I didn't want the condensed stupid to smash my brain into a pulp.

Both videos are relatively tame and things I wouldn't consider being too far in the "OMG CAN'T SLEEP" direction. If at all in that direction.

Then again this is me and I think they are hilarious so...

As someone who is for abortion, I can tell you that these videos did not cause any amazing revelation in me on what a horrible person I am for supporting such a barbaric practice: rather, they just made me facepalm. Very badly.

Honestly, I don't think the point of these videos is to get pro-choice people to see the error in their ways, but to rally pro-life people. Obviously, no one, pro-life or pro-choice is for the murder of babies or blending of bunnies, but whether or not you agree that either of these things is a valid comparison to abortion depends on whether you are pro-life or pro-choice to begin with! In short, these things are only Preaching to the Choir; nothing more.

I take offense to that one Chagen. Most of us aren't forcing our will upon others (cause you know, that's kind of against what the Bible said as well as going against being, you know, a good person).

I would like to add that the scene in the first one with the baby's laughter followed by the shotgun blast did make me chuckle a bit.

That doesn't change the fact that Christians are a good source for narm, Usht. All groups are really.

Those videos were very weak. I incorrectly predicted that they would show graphic images of abortion.

Usht: I'm actually an Agnostic Christian Deist myself. But you can't deny that fundies are hilariously stupid.

They have to resort to stupid metaphors because the vast majority of actual abortions are indistinguishable on film from ordinary gynecological exams.
