General Sonic The Hedgehog thread

Chris wasn't made by 4kids. He's present in the Japanese version and pretty much the same. He's only not annoying in Season 3, which was a pretty good season.

It's clear the first 2 seasons are basically revolved around Chris. It wasn't him taking so much Tails' place as living out his fantasy of having friends, something he didn't have before. That's the reason for its focus. Tails has a full-out place in the anime and is very active. He isn't really replaced. Albeit, once in a blue moon Chris replace his particular role in an adaption for a small part. Like giving the Chaos Emerald to Sonic instead of Tails doing so during the Adventure 1 part. But he even replaces Amy during the Adventure 2 arc to convince Shadow to help out.

Not saying Chris should be in, cause he honestly was a bad part of Sonic X. The rest of the stuff, on the other hand, is fairly good, and would make a pretty good spin-off game.

What about other characters like the Metarex and Cosmo?

Cosmo might work fine as playable. Not sure. Metarex fall under the enemies/bosses.

The Metarex were generally bland and uninteresting, and I'm not really sure what they could do that the series' already bland and uninteresting generic alien invader Black Doom can't.

They're also an evil army of robots, which is kind of stepping on Eggman's toes as an antagonist anyway. The show tried to sidestep it by awkwardly turning Eggman into a hero for that season (that's where the memetic moment of Eggman suddenly having a problem with hurting people comes from), but it still stood out that they're not delivering anything too different from what we already have.

Well, to be fair, the actual Metarex Saga felt like a somewhat softer version of Shadow The Hedgehog's game. It even has events based upon it to some degree. Coupled with Cosmo's reveal being similar to Shadow's, as well as the Chaotix showing up...

Cosmo was able to use plants as weapons if I recall correctly and they already had an Sonic Adventure styled concept art for her I think. I suspect they may of intended to put her in the main games at some point but either decided against it for whatever internal reason or they scrapped her cause her reception in Sonic X wasn't the best (although nowhere near as bad as other Sonic characters that get hate or Chris)

I remember people used to dislike her because she came across as whiny. Never understood that complaint (her whole race died when she was a young kid pretty much she kinda has a reason) but I remember hearing it quite often.

If they put her in now I suspect they'd have to change her personality a bit.

Unpopular opinion: I'd much rather see Cosmo appear in the games than Sally.

Sally always came across to me as kinda boring in the comics, I literally remember nothing about her as a character other than that she was the leader of the Freedom Fighters and that she dated Sonic.

Cosmo atleast I can remember as for Sonic stuff she has a pretty unique design (closest to it is some one-off character from that failed Sonic Mario Party clone, Void I think his/her name was?) and her backstory while a bit similar to Shadow's isn't the same thing. I also recall her being kinda hippyish (doesn't want plants to be harmed and can talk to them I think) but since she's a sapient plant that isn't too surprising

I'd actually rather see Julie-Su or Shade than Sally or Cosmo.

Maybe Tangle from the new IDW continuity has a real chance.

Not to mention she looks absolutely adorable.

Shade I would like as well, not sure about Julie-Su as I barely know anything about her.

She would of been a perfect canidate for Team Rose in the past or in the present if they ever make a Sonic Heroes 2.

@Humans and hedgehogs co-existing: I generally like to take each Sonic story on its own terms, with most of canon being in Broad Strokes. I mean, so something like Shadow clearly relies on Sonic Adventure 2 and, to an extent, Heroes, but between a lot of the games there's been a lot of re-invention, etc. They're all ostensibly in the same continuity, but, like, when exactly did Sonic realise 'hey, I can talk!' and begin to morph from Classic's shape? (I know Sonic Forces retcons him to being from another dimension.)

But I think just saying 'some areas are more populated by humans and some more by animals' is how I'd probably handle it if I had to make definite sense of it all.

Hell, I'd pay to see Cosmo appear in the IDW comics.

As for Julie-Su, not a chance because Ken Penders.

Because he doesn't care? Archie and the games always had a divide, as much as Sega Japan and Sega USA. Archie was never a priority for him. Nevermind that the comics are secondary to the games. If all Sonic comics were cancelled forever, he wouldn't bat an eye.

Because they can just write Expies into their games, a la Shade the Echidna. The overfocus on the echidnas in those comics was dumb anyways.

Why is Amy Rose the only non-human to have a last name?

Miles Prower (and Charmy Bee(?)) also have the standard first name and surname

Other than Eggman...no other human has been given a full name...

x4 On the other hand, if it wasn't echidnas, it would've been hedgehogs. The only reason Knuckles had such an extensive history built around him was because SEGA wouldn't let Penders do it with Sonic. So instead of green Knuckles and Locke the Asshole, we would've had green Sonic and Jules the Asshole. Pick your poison.

We already had green Sonic the asshole.

That, and Knuckles got his own comic series. You kind of need a supporting cast if you're going to have your own comic.

Except the only reason he had his own comic was because SEGA wouldn't let Penders build his little mythos around Sonic. If not for that, Knuckles probably would've been the only Echidna around like the games.
