I hated the gravity mechanic in Zero Gravity. The moment you master it, you have to put the controller down for the computer to stand a chance. The air gauge I remember being a lot more challenging - and probably the reason I gave up on the first one.
Still, airboards that need air to run > hoverboards that just fly because clean energy and gravity-manipulating artifacts. IIRC the first game necessitated the "tricks" you can do because they gave you additional air, in ZG, doing tricks was pointless.
One thing I always liked about Sonic Riders - more than any racing game in fact, were the water stages. Funny given how terrifying the water stages were in the main series.
Ugh, starting to wish I still had this game.
He could be annoying, but I really think he's Sonic's best rival - at least for the sports games. He's actually obsessed with proving he's faster than Sonic. Rather than fighting Sonic because he's in the way (Eggman), because a menacing figure tricked them (Knuckles and Silver), because amnesia (Shadow in Heroes), or because (Blaze) - Jet's first words to Sonic are: "Ha, so you're supposed to be the fastest thing alive!" Perfect rivalry-starting line.
And I mean, hawks are fast fliers. It makes sense.

Oh yeah, Aquatic Capital and it's counterpart (I forgot it's name, all I remember was that it rained hard in the counterpart) were pretty great. I also remember liking the Green and White Forest, Sand Ruins and it's counterpart, (mostly because the music
) the Eggman and/or ice and snow themed maps, and Babylon Gardens.
There was also Digital Dimension which I remember unlocking back in the day and loving it. SEGA Carnival was also nice.
As for Jet, his annoyingness aside I do agree that he genuinely was one of the better rivals. Wave also was interesting rival or foil to Tails (she was just as smart as him as I recall correctly and she would certainly compete with him on that matter). The only one I didn't like was Storm mainly just because he was just kinda there. He would do nothing else other then just be the muscle I guess.

No, he was useful in SA 2.
He wasn't as much of a musclehead in Adventure 2. He actually acted really dumb in Adventure 1.
Heroes and beyond, though... poor guy. Sonic X actually treats him a little better, giving him enough moments of smartness, as he doesn't get that much in the games.

Not really...he did his own thing for most of the game.
Even though he stopped the Chaos Emeralds...that didn't really do anything, because the Bio-lizard attached itself to the Ark to continue crashing procedure.
