How many of you guys played Adventure 2's Multiplayer mode?

I have, and almost everytime I play someone in the Sonic/Shadow levels, they'll pick Shadow. Meaning I'm stuck with Sonic or Amy since I don't pick Metal Sonic.

Quite often. I play Metal Sonic the most. Rouge for Treasure Hunting, and I have no one specific for Shooting stages.

I usually pick Sonic for those. If my friends didn't take Shadow, I'd likely play as him.

I don't really play SA 2's MP that much. It's fun, but with only 4 characters for the racing levels, and with Shadow being in about every one of them for me makes it kinda boring after awhile.

I haven't turned on the Gamecube in years, but back then, I used to pick Amy.

For the sake of challenge.

When I wasn't, I'd be Sonic.

I could never get anyone who'd care enough to play the treasure-hunting stage with me, I'd just plug in a second controller and pretend to play it myself, usually have Knuckles and Rouge circle around each other, gather rings, use their special attacks.

...kind of sad childhood in retrospect...

I always thought it was weird that the opening cutscene to Sonic Generations had a totally original track, especially when so little of that game's music was original. The first thing the player sees when turning on the game is the last thing I would think wouldn't totally go whole hog with the "nostalgia" idea.

That's not the "first" thing a player would see.

I actually feel like Generations is a step back from Colors in terms of replayability and S-ranks. It's good, but Colors was more interesting. It's one of those cases where they were testing new ideas and it actually worked well.

So apparently Sonic as a whole is Deader Than Disco according DeaderThanDisco.Video Games.

Also on that list: Soul Calibur, all of Squeenix, the entire tycoon game genre, the entire JRPG genre, and tons of well remembered classic games that just either never had sequels or haven't had one in a long time.

Not to mention most of those entries are poor and don't actually have a reason for why the series, genre or trend should be considered "dead."

So... yeah. It's useless. Why do we even have that list?

To bring it back to Sonic, though, no it's not an example of Deader Than Disco, as it still exists, there are still unironic installments of it being being made, and the series does still have some success even if it does take criticism. Deader Than Disco is mainly for genres, and is about trends that not only have been abandoned but are noticeably, widely maligned and primarily get reference through mockery.

Which, then again, doesn't necessarily describe disco itself, but that's why I've always hated that term.

Disco is no deader than metal and arguably had a bigger influence in the long run if you consider it a precursor to the electronic dance music genres of today.

But yeah Sonic ain't dead. I still see little kids playing it especially on phones and my little cousins adore it still. Sonic still appeals to younger generations which as long as it keeps doing will keep it alive.

Unowat? I'm deleting that entry.

Can't deny something though: the 25th anniversary is going to be a crucial make-or-break moment for the series.

No, but its reception really can't be anything but really good or really bad on announcement.

Anyone play Mojang's sorta new game (they're only publishing it and it's been in early access for a good couple years now) Cobalt yet? It's free on Steam for the weekend right now.

Mentioning it here because it plays like "Sonic the Tactical Shooter if it was also a Metroidvania" and I'm actually and really digging it right now.

Disco is no deader than metal and arguably had a bigger influence in the long run if you consider it a precursor to the electronic dance music genres of today.

It's also pretty important to the evolution of R&B, funk and especially pop (a lot of pop stars that came out of the 70's and 80's had disco hits), which is why disco classics still get homaged/sampled by musicians today and are pretty fondly remembered.

Deader Than Disco generally comes from people whose idea of disco begins and ends at Saturday Night Fever.

But that's enough rant from me. To bring it back to Sonic, someone in Sega must've really loved classic pop, funk and disco, because a lot of Genesis Sonic songs are in those styles - though with Sonic 3 it's obvious why.

[up][up]To be fair the sung parts were re-pitched to the New song using something like Auto-Tune or Melodyne, since you can basically give it a melody and tell it to take whatever vocal audio is coming in and pitch it to the given midi.

You can actually do this free with Kero Vee but it's super artifacty compared to Auto-Tune proper (as in Antares product of the same name) or Melodyne
