Got a game that seemed like it would be the best thing ever but crushed your expectations?

HAWX 2, for me. And I'm not even don eyet. It just doesn't have the same flare as the original does.

Unreal Tournament 3. Despite all the promises of making it more like the original, it was a Gears Of War-ified update of U T2k 4 with more bells and whistles which made the actual gameplay intolerable. The addition of an actual plot to the single-player mode didn't help either.

Brain Age Academy for the Wii. Haven't played it since I got it. There's nothing fun about it after playing it for a week.

[up]I got the Big Brain Academy game for the DS. It also sucked.

For recent games, Metroid Other M. I'm especially pissed off because I spent the weeks before telling everyone who was interested to buy the game and support the franchise and developers, even when they said they thought a rent was good first. Then I actually bought and played the game at full price the day after launch.

...

Yeah. Fuck supporting the game developers.

I know I've said it in at least 2 topics already, but I can't say it enough: Eternal Ring. I know that it was made as an early Playstation 2 title, but YOU DON'T MAKE A 3D FIRST-PERSON GAME AND NOT USE THE FUCKING ANALOG STICKS.

Spider-man: Shattered Dimensions. Beneath the licsence and fan-service, it's a generic brawler with a boring plot- not worth £40.

Zelda II. I love the rest of the series, but this one just doesn't feel like a Zelda game, and being unable to save your location is irritating. I'm nwhere near finishing it, and I have no desire to do so.

Nanostray. It would be an utter underwhelming shmup on it's own, but the way it uses it's 3d graphics means that you can never be certain whether something is in the background or not. In a game where touching enemies or scenery is an instant death

As long as there's reasons given and conversations aren't shut down, this is ok. If it turns into simple statements with no real thought put into them beyond "This game." it will be closed as a complaint thread.

Chromehounds, Lost Planet and Battle Fantasia. None of them i really consider bad games, but i just can't really get into any of them. Right now they all have the dubious honor of having nearly blank pages on my achievements list.

The number one on the list though is Front Mission Evolved. It has everything that i want in a perfect mech game... Except Quality. It's the first game i ever pre-ordered, too.

Yugioh World Championship 2010. Oh, how far you have fallen since 2004. ;_; the mechanics of the game totally slowed combat down to a crawl, the story mode is crap (which no one really cares about, W C20xx games are mean't for card playing!) and you have to struggle to get decent cards and grind your way to actually playing around with strategies, which is arguably the best part of the game, but it's behind HOURS of crap.

Halo Wars comes first to mind. It wasn't an awful game really, but I only played through it once. I really only bought it to get the map pack that came with the "special edition"...which was later given out on ODST anyway.

Metroid: Other M: Was so very very excited during the lead up. Then I got to the first pixel hunt. Then I realized Samus was not herself. By the end I was yelling at the game to just get to the credits already, and was so fed up I gave it to a friend without bothering with the post-credits stuff.

Zack and Wiki: It seemed like the perfect fit; cute, obscure, puzzling... but it wound up making me too frustrated with it to continue. Also the MC sounding like he's throwing up every time he was straining got old very fast.

Professor Layton: Another that seemed like a perfect fit before I actually played it. I have realized I actually really don't like logic puzzles as presented in PL.

I remember when I bought my N64 at a flea market. Along with the system, I could pick one game among three choices: Banjo Tooie, Blues Brother 2000 and some tie-in to the 90's Hercules show whose name I've forgot.

I picked Blues Brother 2000.

The N64 went one to become one of my favorite system, but getting stuck on the 2nd level of one of the most generic and boring 3D platformer (by the makers of Superman 64, amusingly enough) with nothing else to play was a... dull experience.

I forget its name, but that Final Fantasy XII spin-off for the DS. I had never played a Final Fantasy game before that and it certainly wasn't the one to win me over.

The Elder Scrolls Oblivion. Before you start jumping on me about how horrible my tastes are, I'm not saying it was bad or that it wasn't as good as the rest of the series (which I have never played). It simply wasn't my kind of game. $40 for a five year old game was just too much.

Lunar Silver Star for the GBA. I went on kind of an RPG kick in high school and bought everything I could. This game, while not bad, just wasn't worth it's price tag. It, along with many others, put quite a dent in my summer job savings at the time.

Eww...you played the GBA Silver Star Story? No, no, no. Not good. Play the PSX version localized by Working Designs or the earlier Sega Saturn or Sega CD versions. The complete version is the best in my opinion though. I haven't tried the PSP version yet sadly.

Now games I regretted buying? Well I've always rented or emulated most things before I bought them. Those that I didn't I've been happy with...somehow. A thing I regret renting though is Kirby's Dream Course. Good god...no. That game. A WASTED WEEK.

Blaz Blue Continuum Shift. The story mode was good for a laugh, but it just wasn't as fun as super street fighter 4.

Sonic and the Black Knight

It was only 20 dollars and it's (highly superior) predecessor was on sale for less, so I thought it would be a good deal. It turns out that a glitchy game with little innovation is not worth 20 dollars.

The newest Alone in the Dark: Bugged up the ass, awkward to control, and had one of the most frustrating driving segments I've ever played. I liked the game's story, presentation and atmosphere up to a point, but it just got too frustrating. Not to mention skipping any part of it denied you of the true ending.

Ultimate Ghosts N' Goblins: I don't know if this counts exactly, since I actually like this game a lot. I really do. But I don't like paying $20 for a game that I will never have any earthly hope of beating. Same thing with Abe's Oddysee.

Final Fantasy VII: Not because I don't like it, but because of how much I had to pay for it at the time. Not to mention that about a week later, they announced it was going up for sale on the Playstation store.

Heroes of Might and Magic V. I was really let down by it. The first campaign is way too easy, and the second one was ball-bustlingly hard, which means that I was only ever able to play as two factions in the campaign because to this day, I'm stuck on the third mission of the second campaign out of six. There are way too few of the little scenario maps, which are actually halfway playable.

Some of the design choices are moronic, mostly because they wanted so much to make Heroes III: Version 1.1 that they removed everything good that Heroes IV got me used to. Heroes without armies, armies without heroes and caravans, among other things, and removed for no reason, other than THOSE THINGS DIDN'T EXIST IN THE THIRD GAME!

Oh, and the AI cheats like a bitch, too.

I wish I would have spent my about 40€ on anything else. Like gambled it away. At least that way there would have been a chance to get something out of it. And because checking the lottery is more exciting than playing HOMAM V.

A game I regretted buying was Pokemon Diamond, because my father bought me a copy of Pokemon Diamond, my mother bought me a copy of Pokemon Diamond, my auntie bought me a copy of Pokemon Diamond, two of my best friends bought me a copy of Pokemon Diamond and my boyfriend bought me a copy of Pokemon Diamond.
