The title refers to a relatively obscure moment in the Simpsons that isn't even a clear example of the trope... Surely there can be a clearer title for a trope about a fan confusing an actor with their character?

This is the second (at least) thread on this subject. What happened to the first one again?

Must have died on us. I think we had consensus to rename, too.

[1] I am still a big fan of But You Are Spock. Compares well with I Am Not Spock.

^ I like But You Are Spock, when I hear Your Secret's Safe With Me, Superman I think of Jimmy Olsen talking to the actual Superman

Well, if nothing else, Secrets should be Secret's.

I Thought It Meant a character who recently found out Clark Kent is Superman speaking to him in front of other people and saying "Your secret is safe with me, Superman!", and so accidentally giving him away. It seems like an odd title. I like But You Are Spock.

How about anything else that doesn't sound like a line of dialog but does sound like the title of a trope?

You would have to read "But You Are Spock" to know what the trope was about. We have easy punctuation in titles now. How about "Actor / Role Confusion", which would start out as Actor/Role Confusion?

How about we combine it with …But I Play One on TV, which has a much clearer title and covers pretty much the same exact territory.

Being in a Japanese-produced work is not enough of a difference to warrant its own trope.

I remember this from The Simpsons:

  • Lucy Lawless: (carrying Bart and Lisa, flying)
  • Lisa: I didn't know Xena could fly.
  • Lucy Lawless: I'm not Xena, I'm Lucy Lawless.
  • Lisa: Oh.

Rhymes with "Protracted."

Despite my earlier support, I now think Fast Eddie had a point. This trope has nothing to do with Spock. Actor/Role Confusion sounds OK to me - at the very least, it should be a redirect.

Inasmuch as keeping straightforward trope titles is generally good, this does play into I Am Not Spock, which is pretty well-known (albeit as a book title, but everyone knows what Leonard Nimoy meant...except perhaps the Fan Dumb). Besides, Actor/Character Confusion could easily refer to I Am Not Spock...not as easily as this, but the tropes are close enough.

Upon thought, this trope is how I Am Not Spock seems/can seem to many a fan/the whole world (on occasion). They're kind of interrelated.

Imma do Actor/Role Confusion, before it falls off the radar again.

I would wait till there haven't been replys for at least a day before thinking it would fall off the radar.

At least it wasn't another robo rename.
