^^^I only took one semester to learn about Buddhism, but that seems like the opposite of what a person needs to do to reach Enlightenment.

Also, talking about eating people with that avatar...

I wonder which section of Samsara Mami is in.

Would she really count as dead and be reborn? I mean Charlotte ate her inside a barrier and things that go in and don't come out seem to be removed from normal existence. And what would having your soul in its purest and most concentrated form being eaten and torn apart by Witch stomach acid do to you when it comes to Samsara? THIS REQUIRES THOUGHT. Maybe she's just erased from Samsara completely? So it's like a negative Nibbana?

Currently thinking about where'd she go if she was reborn...

I guess it depends on where the soul is for normal humans. I'd assume that she'd just die normally. But then again, this is PMMM where things always get worse. I'd assume she's not in any of the hells though, she didn't seem to commit any of the required sins. Unless deals with the devils count.

If we go by her wish it was to live meaning that she is attached to living. Even after learning that her new life sucks and even though she feels bad about not also wishing to save her parents she is convinced this is better than death. So she is both attached to existence and she is ignorant of the truth (this life sucks and there is something infinitely better). She is also killing what may count as living beings. While she may get a break on this because her very existence as a human depends on the killing of Witches it's still killing. But does this add up to her being dropped down a few realms? Or does she get knocked down a bit in the human realm? I'm thinking she'd stay human personally...

As for where souls are in normal humans...Kyubey said something to the effect that the soul is spread out all over the body. It's fragmented. Becoming a magical girl seems to bring all the fragments together in one smaller and more powerful space. It also makes the soul much more vulnerable to corruption.

Maybe there is a separate realm that is outside of the normal Samsara cycle where they go...Where Enlightenment is completely impossible and you're just stuck in an and I must scream situation.

But they're talking about the new episode! I guess we can postpone it until after the subs are out so we don't have to worry about spoilers.

^^You don't necessarily need a concept of faith to have a concept of love and trust.

faith in anything then what you can experience is foolish.

How can you believe anything you read, then? Certainly, first-hand accounts are more reliable, but there's a significant amount of reliable truth from some sources. Part of the reason evolution is controversial to some people is that they don't have adequate faith/trust in experts.

Okay, maybe I didn't use the best example, but the point is that you don't always have the luxury of experiencing something first-hand, but that shouldn't mean you need to assume that whatever someone says is a lie until you can see for yourself.

And "faith" is essentially a word that can mean thinking something is true, and everyone thinks that something is true. It's possible to "have faith in" the fact that the sun will rise tomorrow, and that's not baseless at all.

That doesn't seem like a very useful definition of faith, and I expect that most religious people will claim that there's more to their faith than that.

Then again, I went to a bible study that claimed that I have faith that the sun will rise and therefore I should have faith in God because it's the exact same thing. Arguments like this is why I don't like the word faith: its meaning is so nebulous as to be pretty much useless. Especially when the word belief tends to suffice, especially for situations like Gelzo's.

^^but when someone thinks something is true that everyone else knows isn't (eg: gnomes that eat socks) we call them delusional but if someones thinks god is real they are sane, no.

[up][up]Yeah, now we're getting somewhere.

I think it's just good to recognize when a word has a wide variety of meanings, even if some uses are often misleading.

[up]I have no idea what you're going on about here. I think there's some communication failure.

Gelzo: I think the communication failure might be in this line: "And "faith" is essentially a word that can mean thinking something is true, and everyone thinks that something is true." When I first read it I parsed as meaning that faith is applied to something that everyone agrees on.
