So, recently I played through Paper Mario for the N64, and of course I now feel like playing through the second one. But something has occured to me, and I felt like sharing it...

Every time I play through (Which has been a huge amount of times now...) I tell myself "Okay, THIS time we see what (Insert partner other than Bobbery) has to say about this instead of the crusty old seadog". And every time I can't resist missing out on Bobbery's dialogue despite having seen it tons of times. This is a shame, because this game has some of the funniest, wittiest, and all-around awesome lines, and much of it comes from your partner's reactions.

So, since a complete script seems to be missing, I was thinking we could gather up 7 of us tropers to play through the game, each using only one partner for all of the possible dialogue. If we want, we could also cover all alternate dialogue for making certain choices when offered them, such as LETTING THERE BE HOTDOGS! (Unfortunately, sometimes these two collide, in which case the best option is to have someone whose partner hasn't joined yet see choice A for partner A, someone else see choice B for partner A...) As we play, we would write/type all of the mutually exclusive dialogue and eventually document it somewhere.

If we do this, you can probably guess which partner I'm claiming. Then again, I may want to see the different dialogue firsthand... We'll cross that bridge once we have 7 people. Obviously, if your partner doesn't join until later you could just play how you want until then. Just be sure to avoid the optional partner-dialogue situations until after they join. We also need to save often, and remember that most bosses have some afterward, which means finishing the battle with your partner. As I play, I'll also create a "template" of sorts with each situation given a clear name so we know why what is said is said. Lastly, sometimes it's not only the partner that has different dialogue. Not all of the time, but sometimes, whoever they may be talking to will say something different.

We do not need to worry about partner dialogue that can be seen for all partners anyway, such as their reaction to seeing that Bobbery is asleep and not dead, which you can do as often as you want until you wake him up. Another example would be that Trouble Center quest where that Goomba needs a girlfriend, for which you can see all of the reactions until you show him Goombella.

Whoever chooses Ms. Mowz needs to get her ASAP, of course. Which would be right after Chapter 4 if my memory serves.

So, what do you say? Can we get 6 others to join me?

Aww, no one wants to participate? That's a pity...

I would, but RL hates me and has apparently been conspiring to keep me busier than I would like. Oh and I have a gigantic backlog of games that I need to get through.

Didn't Super Mario Wiki already document all of the partner dialogue anyways?

And "Reality" is unveiled. What did it want...? What did it see...? What did it hear...? What did it think...? What did it do...?

I think they did. Shame, though—after losing my second game file (the one with a White Yoshi named Raz), I need an excuse to play through again.

I would love to play through the best game in the world, but I'm getting two new games soon and I'll want to play those, not to mention schoolwork.

I really need to play this game again. But between social life and college work, I wouldn't have time.

Heck, I sometimes don't have time for sleep.

There's a thing called game scripts. They have all the info you need. Anyways, whoever gets Goombella will have a lot of work to do.

You got some dirt on you. Here's some more!

There are complete game scripts? Most of the ones I know are incomplete when it comes to branched dialogue.

Also, it would only be mutually exclusive dialogue, not things like Tattles or forced situations.

The one on Gamefaqs I know says right on it something like "I'm not going to show every different partner line, I'm only using who I had out at the moment." And I can't find the one on Super Mario Wiki. If it's not there, then I'm pretty sure (But not certain) that there is no complete script...

Edit: Just checked, the Gamefaqs one says "I'm just going to put the dialogue of the party member that I used for that part of the game." Also, a quick Google search turned up nothing but that script and its many postings.

So, there doesn't seem to be a complete script anywhere on teh interwebz. Anybody care to join me? I'm itching to play through it again, and figured I'd make it productive.

That depends, how fast do you plan on playing through the game?

That doesn't matter. We don't need to even do it at the same time. But I was probably going to play through the main game over the course of about 4 or 5 days, and the one pesky line for the Bonetail fight sometime after I'm ready for it.

Now then, how will we handle situations where a single partner can give multiple responses? (Such as when you can choose to threaten Punio, or does the non-threatening answer not give any separate dialogue? I wouldn't know, even after many playthroughs.) Would we just save beforehand and see each? Or would someone whose partner hasn't joined yet do it? The former is a pain, but the latter would get complicated way too fast. I don't think there are may instances of this, though. Possibly the aforementioned example, and definitely the scene where you can try to let the Yoshi egg be made into hotdogs. I think that's it, actually.

The threatening dialouge makes your partner say "Shame on you!" before the normal message. I remember that much.

I was wondering if the normal message and the "Shame on you" message were mutually exclusive, but now that I think more about I guess you get both in a row for saying the negative option. How about the egg part? Do you know if the lines are mutually exclusive or if saying the negative option gives you both? Actually, those two are the only parts of the game I can recall where you can influence what they say...

So that one does have mutually exclusive lines? I guess saving and resetting is the best way for those...
