to want to eat people's vital organs. It's just that they tend to use rather unfriendly means to do so. Like eating living people, with special attention paid to poor schmucks that just wanted to get laid. As the article notes, they could just eat dead hearts, but no...
The important part about the character, however, is not that it eats (people) to live, but that it lives to eat (people). Ultimately, all it really wants is to be a real boy, as it were, but it is mentally so far gone that how it would actually achieve this goal has simply been conflated with its hatred of those who have proper bodies, resulting in lots and lots of organ-gouging and skin-wearing.
In the end, it's all just very creepy, and more than slightly gross.
