If you throw a rock in an arcade you're probably going to hit this game. It's awesome. I love the Announcer Chatter and the crazy tracks, plus let's face it, any game with a miniature Titanic boat with the rear smokestack becoming the afterburner during boost is AWESOME.

I always loved the absolutely gigantic jumps in the game.

Didn't they make a remake/sequel for X Box Live?

They did. There's also an arcade sequel called H2Overdrive but it hasn't received a port sadly.

The original game is on one of Midway's compilations too if you want to play an arcade perfect version.

It's been a long time since I've played the original, and I have no Xbox 360 to play Hydro Thunder Hurricane on.

However, I HAVE played H 2 Overdrive at a local arcade a few times. It quickly becomes addicting-and wallet-sucking-because your chosen boat will likely level up once or twice during each race, all the way up to 50 levels. Along the way, the boat gets upgrades that let it do more things, allowing for shortcuts to be taken or powerups to be acquired beyond the usual boost pickups. Oh, and there are no free plays to my knowledge, so that's around 50 plays' worth of pay to max out ONE boat. Despite that, I keep playing whenever possible, trying to discover new tricks and perfect my execution of things like gaining boost at the start of a race.

I'm tempted to emulate the original game or play it in some fashion at home, but it wouldn't really feel right without the throttle. Sure, I already have a throttle modeled after the F-16C, but the rotation angles wouldn't be quite right, nor would the fact that it's on the left rather than the right.

Fuckin' Hydro Thunder, fuck yes.

I remember popping loads of quarters into the machine we used to have at the local bowling alley and racing for hours. That game kicks so much ass.

I have the Dreamcast version. It's just as fun, in my opinion.

Hell yes. Hell fucking yes. This game is amazing.

You are not alone, and you are not strange. You are you, and everyone has damage. Be the better person.
