There's an end date.
And since we all know the Robotech movie is NEVER friggin happening, that's probably when a Macross movie is announced.
While it's true Tatsunoko may be wary of making another deal, even with Funi, Viz, or, hell, Netflix, the flip side is that Japan has already taken the step of putting English subs on Delta's bluray release and cutting the middleman out altogether.

PSN ID: FateSeraph | Switch friendcode: SW-0145-8835-0610 Congratulations! She/TheyHow come the plural of "Zentran" is "Zentradi" (dropping the final "n") while the plural of "Meltran" is "Meltrandi" (keeping the final "n")?
Fiat iustitia, et pereat mundus.Languages do weird stuff like that... including fictional alien ones.
So you guys remember how there'd be a Robotech tabletop RPG?
...Man, something weird's going on with anything that has to do with Robotech, huh? And how's that movie coming along? Haven't heard much about that, have we?
Necro time:
Bad news: Apparently we'll be hearing some info about that Robotech movie this coming Saturday at the 2018 Anime Expo.
Saturday July 7th
10:00 AM to 11:00 AM
Live Programming 5 (Room 404 AB)
Harmony Gold USA presents the latest developments in the Robotech universe, from awesome new products to the live action film in the works at Sony Pictures with the producers of 300 and the director of Stephen King's "It"
Who wants to wager that they'll be greeted by the audience with a massive "BOO"?
Good news: Macross creator Shoji Kawamori will be featured at this year's Otakon.
Robotech has long since become its own thing, I don't much care what that franchise does.
Last I heard the most recent lawsuit said the rights would FINALLY revert to Tatsunoko in 2021, at which point we can pick up Macross Frontier and Macross Delta legally.
Kawamori himself wrote a brief treatment for a Macross film that took out the Meltrandi and half the Zentraedi characters. It’s actually more in the spirit of 7, with the idea of peace overcoming the villain rather than firepower. Personally, having a Macross film and not having the insane Max/Milla romance feels like a waste.
I didn't finish Delta but isn't there supposed to be a new series this year? I'm guessing it's for fall but I don't think we've heard anything about it since its announcement.

Run Sasaki’s appearing in the latest Super Dimension covention.
Houston, we may have a very huge problem.
We're doomed, aren't we?

...I know this is overused, but it bears repeating.
They’re either launching a new lawsuit, or against all common sense and the begging from their fans, Tatsunoko re-upped with Harmony Gold for another tour of not letting the US see any Macross besides the original.
Actually, further digging around made me discover that on June 2nd this year, Big West, the primary sponsor and copyright holder of the Macross series, won the right to trademark Macross in the UK.
So between that and HG having some panel regarding Macross and Robotech, what could it mean?
x3
Don't forget regardless of that happens with Macross, Harmony Gold owns Robotech and they can't lose that.
Yeah, but Robotech only got as big as it did because the Macross arc was considered the best Robotech arc.
HG made it so that the western side of the globe has no way of getting a hold of the other Macross titles.
As per Macross's Trivia page, under No Export For You:
And to think there are still people who say Macross is worthless without Robotech and are hoping HG re-secures the license to continue doing nothing with it.
So the panel is at 6pmPDT/9pmEST. And for added fun, afterwards, they’re going to do a livestream with the internet channel Clownfish TV. I can’t see this ending well in any capacity.
To say Macross is worthless without Robotech is lies.
Also, a livestream?! Oh dear god, I don't want to see where this goes...
Those people need to be beaten about the head with pool noodles until they repent of their foolishness
Well, panel starts in half an hour and “a reversal of fortune” sounds really ominous. I can see it now -
“Yes, we locked up the rights to Macross extending our contract for another 30 years and no, there’s not a damn thing you nerds can do about it. And don’t bother asking for anything Macross related on US shores...ever.”
Harmony Gold allegedly re-upped with Tatsunoko for 35 YEARS.
Why do they even have it? They don't even use it.
Wake me up at your own risk.
Still better than the perpetual rights HG claimed they had.
