In this week's episode of Macross Delta, more flashbacks. And Mikamo status is still the same imho.

Flashback episode mostly, but at least it's informative flashbacks.

So Mikumo's an Artificial Human of some sort. Not too surprising. But her status is still mysterious.

In this week's episode, a look at the previous draft of the story. Also, endgame is starting

O Kay, quick question: is Macross Delta worth watching? Cuz I'm a huge Macross-fan but I hated a few entries to the series with a firing passion (namely Macross 7 and a few of the OV As), so I'm a bit on the edge whether I should give this one a go or not.

I guess that would depend on what exactly you hated about them.

I disliked Macross 7 mainly because I found the characters to be quite boring and the series was way too freakin long and even kinda boring :/ I also really didn't care for the 90s-fication of the soundtrack. And Macross Zero and Macross 2 were really, really meh in almost every regard.

Loved Frontier though. Cuz I'm a crazy person who loves fearless over-the-top schlock and cheesy J-Pop.

In that case, I'd say go ahead and give Delta a shot. While I like Frontier better than Delta, Delta isn't as slow as 7 or Zero, and the characters are pretty colorful.

We're 22 episodes in and Freyja is still the unreliable rookie that's not quite part of the team

So, uh, fairly eventful episode. Plot threads are beginning to get tied up

Assault on Windermere begins! Flying! Singing! König Monster!

And FINALLY one of the Aerial Knights bites it. But it couldn't be Bogue. Nah, had to be one of the only ones with actual decency. RIP Cassim.

Tomo Sakurai is no longer a voice actor as of 9-1. Her age is catching up and she's having a hard time in doing voice work lately.

Are female Windermereans' runes supposed to look like hair decs? Because I recognize a fake rune on Hayate but not the girls (though Walkure disguising themselves should be an effort in futility)

Oddly, the bit with ReiMaki and KumoKumo eating was my favourite scene

Actually doing something with our leads, for a change... Kinda would have preferred they didn't. Still think the whole bomb plot thread is dumb

Roid is into bondage, I guess

Still so many holes surrounding the deployment of the Fold Bomb. I agree with Freyja and Mirage, we don't have the full story here.

Bogue continues to make me want to smash his face in every time he's on screen.

Mikumo status: still mysterious.

A clone of the Star Singer and the true king Windermere royalty worships most likely. They even mentioned her full name when spouting about the true ruler way back.

Random Thread Hop! I'm big into Gundam, but I've never really watched any Macross. What's a good place to start watching the franchise? Is any of it on any of the usual streaming sites (Hulu, Crunchyroll, Netflix, Amazon)? Has any of it (other than Robotech, which... kinda sorta doesn't really count) been dubbed, or is it all sub only?

Really from Jupiter, but not an alien.

I know Macross Plus and the non-canon Macross II were on hulu previously, but they may have been taken down recently since hulu's dumping a lot of anime. I don't think anything else is legally streaming anywhere.

And only the original Macross, Macross Plus, and Macross II have dubs. Macross Plus is really good and short so maybe start with that.

[up][up]Personally I'd recommend Macross Frontier as a starting point just because of how much more accessible it is to the modern anime viewer, but that's just me.

As for subs/dubs: thanks to the licensing nightmare caused by Robotech there's basically no official releases allowed in NA for most of the Macross franchise. There've been a few exceptions, and I think I've heard the original Macross is now on Amazon Prime, but beyond that it's just not available.

Original Macross and Macross Plus are legally available in English, and dubbed to boot (as well as Macross II if you want to count that), but everything else is only available fan-subbed, and that is not likely to change anytime soon (if ever).

The original Macross is still (IMO,) the best Macross out there, so even f you have to go Amazon or wherever else, you should really start with that. It's not even just because it's the first series of the franchise; it's because it's still just that good. There's also a version out there with a really good dub; Edward Elric even voices the main character! So if you can find it, that's what I'd really recommend picking up.

Looks like Hulu doesn't have it anymore, but the original series is up on Amazon Prime Video. Subbed only, but I can deal with that. Thanks for the answers, guys.

When I get around to watching it, should I post my musings here? I don't want to hijack the thread with long rambly posts if you guys don't want to hear it.

Clearly you mean Junpei, who is the best character (and uses almost the exact same voice anyway).

[up]Don't worry; I'd be completely fine with that. I did the same thing in the Doctor Who thread and everyone seemed to be A-OK with it, so I don't think it'll be a problem here.

[up][up]This thread is pretty much dead 6/7 days of the week anyway. Not much of a conversation going on for you to interrupt.

Besides, such reaction posts sometimes have a way of reviving discussion, I've noticed. I say go for it.

In this week's episode of Macross Delta: sham trials, jailbreak, Star Singer revelations, Makina is shot, Freyja's prematurely aging.

I will say that while the Windermere trial was a piece of bullshit, they did bring up one interesting point: what is the legal status of a private organization like Chaos during wartime? I'm not too familiar with how mercenaries are treated when it comes to Prisoners of War.

Not sure what Hamburger's angle on all this is either. I get that he's not really devoted to Windermere's cause and is ultimately just going along with them because they're paying him, but I don't see how helping Chaos and Walkure benefits him at this point. He made some vague statements about "compensation", but... yeah, I don't see it.

I don't think Makina's about to die, but for some reason Freyja's starting to give out this early? And Mikumo's status is finally something other than mysterious. Bogue's still an asshole who needs to die. All in all, this looks to be setting up for the final battle.

Episode 24:

I noticed that Berger Stone's voice in this episode is a bit different... Is this because of Keiji Fujiwara taking a leave to undergo treatment for an unspecified illness?

Man, did some of these Windermerean troops graduate from the Imperial Stormtrooper Marksmanship Academy? Also, damn... So Mikumo is a clone of the Star Singer implied to have been kept within the ruins in Windermere and "Rudanjal Rom Mayan" (sp?) seems to be her Trigger Phrase. And I have a feeling Roid knows of Lady M because she (or her company) were probably the ones who stole the remains of the Star Singer during the first war with Windermere.
