Season 5 is ending soon; I think it's set for tomorrow. I don't know if the patch will drop then or not, but we're getting awfully close to the next one.

I kinda wish the PC version had a Nemesis feature. It'd be pretty entertaining. Especially in hardcore.

EDIT: [up][up] The post you linked says the Season ends on the 15th, and Season 6 starts on the 29th. Time to clean up stash space and other housekeeping!

Ah, that's it. Yes, there will be a lot of stash housekeeping, but mainly I'm looking forward to merging my reagent piles so that I can Cube some of the stuff that's been accumulating in my Seasonal stash.

I suppose I could join some Bounty farming runs, but I'm not optimized for it and it sounds about as entertaining on net as watching paint dry.

@Nemesis: not gonna lie, but I have been playing on a coworker's PS 4 and just ran into the damn thing. At first, I dismissed the controller shaking due to something going on outside. Then came that sound. Thinking nothing of it, I kept going. By the second time it happened, I got annoyed by it and ignored the sound. By the third time, I stated that phrase right before it arrived, caused me to panic and murdered my level 15 monk.

I wanted to try out the Starter Edition of D3 before splurging into the purchase of the full game.

Problem is, I made a battle.net account a while ago to play Star Craft II with my long-time friends, but now that I want to access it again, I don't know my password. Normally this would be fixed by a simple request to change, but in battle.net it also asks you a security question. And I don't know what the answer to mine is.

How can I fix this situation of being locked out of my own account?

Your last resort is to contact Blizzard's customer support line by phone. They may require you to fax a copy of your ID or other proof of identity.

Livechat took care of that problem by telling me what the answer to the security question was.

Now, to actually play it and decide if it is worth buying.

EDIT: Actually, I could use some words on:

  • Classes. Who's hot and who's not, mainly.
  • Progression. Is the game just a "how far can you get" affair where you can subsist on what you get?
  • Is it anything like late D2, where most everyone only really played the highest difficulties and the endgame quests, using the most optimized builds possible?

[up] There is no "right" class; they are all fun and all support multiple playstyles. Each character does have a couple of "optimal" builds, but those are very gear dependent and only matter if you're pushing high Torment/Greater Rift levels.

  • Barbarian: Melee class that uses brute-force attacks.
  • Crusader: Melee class that values strong defense.
  • Demon Hunter: Ranged class that uses evasiveness, traps, and turrets.
  • Monk: Melee class that uses fast attacks and Holy magic.
  • Witch Doctor: Ranged class that employs poison magic and pets.
  • Wizard: Ranged class that uses lightning, cold, fire, and arcane magic.

My personal favorite is Wizard, but I have characters of each class that can survive in Torment VII or higher.

Progression is a matter of completing Story Mode at whatever difficulty level you feel comfortable with, then entering Adventure Mode and gearing up your character to the highest difficulty level you can. There is plenty of stuff to do and explore, but it's all focused around the exponential power growth that gear synergy offers you. There is no theoretical maximum to how strong you can get; you measure yourself by the difficulty level you can overcome.

It's not like Diablo II where everyone runs Inferno difficulty with specific builds. The only "right" difficulty level to play at is the one that you can succeed at and the only "right" build is the one that you enjoy playing the most. Obviously, the best builds capitalize on synergies between your skills, passive abilities, and legendary item powers, but each class has many possible builds.

If you do intend to get into multiplayer, you'll have the opportunity to see what difficulty level other players are on when you join their games, so you won't feel like you are helpless and being carried. PvP is completely optional and loot is personal, so you don't need to worry about being ganked or ninjaed.

Edit: The best thing to do, although I don't know if the trial account allows it, is to immediately jump into Seasonal mode (if the season is active) and start your character there. The reason for this is that, upon completing certain objectives, such as leveling to 70, beating a Greater Rift, etc., you will get free class set items, and class sets are where it's at for endgame power.

[up]Ooh, all this looks... promising.

However, the objectives you named as examples of going Seasonal are totally unreachable by a Trial character, because they're capped at level 13.

Furthermore, according to battle.net S5 in this game is about to end, meaning I might end up having to wait for the next.

I didn't know the cap on Trial characters. Level 13 is reachable in less than an hour of play, and you're really only getting teased with the game by that point.

Not like it matters a whole lot anyway because Trial characters can't be seasonal or hardcore anyway.

This does not bode well..

According to this thread I found by idly Googling Paragon Levels, having many of them is mandatory for the highest difficulties, and main stat Paragons are so powerful that they create huge power discrepancies between characters with differing amounts of them, especially past 800 or so, where the 50 per category limit is reached and all that's left to spend them on is Life and main stat.

This was a July 2015 thread, so things may have changed somewhat. How are things up there, considering that thread?

I don't sweat Paragon levels. They are certainly important, but they only matter if your personal goal is to be atop the leaderboards for a given era. They are a gradual power bonus that you get for, basically, playing the game. I don't give a damn about whether I can join a GR95 farm group; I just want to log on and feel that I can make some progress over time.

It's not like Diablo II where everyone runs Inferno difficulty with specific builds.
Back then it was still called Hell difficulty tongue

A bit more seriously, though, I really don't understand the nostalgia for D2. One could maybe make a case for v1.09 and earlier, but the post-1.10 Diablo II is a mess, featuring classes with uneven gear dependency (your weapon was your life when playing melee classes, but it was just another source of +skills if you were a Sorceress), erratic balance, nearly impossible single-player on Hell, and of course the incredibly uniform and static range of activities of players online.

You can tell how long it's been since I played Diablo II. Anyway, the major obstacle to soloing Hell in that game is elite monster damage immunities, which can completely invalidate a particular build. Any time you join a multiplayer game, expect to be insta-gibbed by some kill-hacking loser who then loots your corpse. No thanks.

You have characters of all classes that can survive in Torment VII+.

Would you happen to be willing to being another one anew so that we can play together? My only character is a level 15 Wizard who has just killed the Skeleton King...
