I should think it would stay—assuming no misuse—because it's a preexisting term, like Jumping the Shark...

I've got one. Should Voodoo Shark really be a Super Trope To Fueled By Nonsensoleum?

This is basically just closing a plot hole with another plot hole, right? Here's a straightforward idea for a new name: Closing One Plot Hole With Another. It's neither concise nor witty, but it is clear.

That sounds like an okay redirect. Go for it.

My vote is to leave this as it is. You look at the name and go "What the hell is that about?". Upon reading the trope, you realize it's about a scene or detail that makes you go "What the hell is that about?" It's really a Self-Demonstrating trope title, IMHO.

[up]Fridge Brilliance.

I'm still not fond of the name, but that explanation for it deserves special mention. I, for one, would literally accept it if there was a note on the page that said exactly that; "You clicked on the trope wondering what it had to do with Voodoo Sharks. ...Now you're probably wondering what it has to with Voodoo Sharks. You have just experienced Voodoo Shark."

I thought Voodoo Shark was fine as it was, and hearing the Fridge Brilliance makes me even more sure. Plus, it has a nice kinda ring to it, somehow.

I like Voodoo Shark too. For the many of the same reasons followeroferis pointed out.

Over 300 wicks, nearly 4000 incoming, no evidence of misuse, the description has been cleaned up and some helpful redirects added, but there doesn't seem to be any reason or consensus for a rename. We've done good, should we call this done?

I don't like it at all. But it seems to be working.

Okay, I must be missing something, but HOW is Voodoo Shark an example of itself?

Voodoo Shark is an odd name for itself. Then the description OF Voodoo Shark explains itself in a very straightforward and NOT-nonsensical manner. Yes, the description DOES close the hole that the title created, but it does NOT create another hole.

The title made a hole. The description filled the hole. No more holes. Not this trope.

The term Voodoo Shark means nothing to me. I don't get the reference.

Handwaving Yourself Deeper?

[up]That's a big improvement IMO.

I think Voodoo Shark is an example of itself, if I'm not mistaken. In the book, the offspring of the shark killed previously is hunting the people who killed its parent specifically. To answer the question of "why would a shark do that?" they said A Wizard Did It, and it was so ridiculous the entire thing fell to pieces.

I like Handwaving Yourself Deeper, though. I support adding that as a redirect...

It's a paradox. If the article+name is an example of the trope, then it's not, but if it's not, then it is! So, we don't add it to Self-Demonstrating Article, because the minute we do so, it stops being one! [lol]

In any case, no misuse, seems to be working, plenty healthy; I'm not seeing a valid argument for a rename here. We've already fixed problems with the description and it's got several good redirects. I repeat: is there anything else we need?

Nope, but I like the idea of making Handwaving Yourself Deeper a redirect.

I too liked it for a redirect so I made it one. It is rather redirect overdosed at the moment but I think Handwaving Yourself Deeper is the best as an alternative because I can use it in a different manner to Voodoo Shark. I can describe somebody saying something as handwaving themselves deeper.

I really don't like That Just Raises Further Questions because, outside of a pothole, it sounds like a Troper Speech Insertion. If You Know What I Mean.

Since we are on a spin cycle of "Hey, it's healthy, it seems to be working, leave it" I'm taking this as a group movement to not renaming or at least as a definite sign that we have no will to actually go ahead and rename it. I'm going to call in a mod since we've just ended this with an actionable solution with the redirect.

Well, it's not unanimous, but I think that we opposers are fairly well outnumbered here. And I still think that it doesn't count as selt-demonstrating. Oh, well.

There has been a request for a mod to weigh in, the discussion has been spotty and the thread has been open for about six months. I am going to put a clock on it.

Clock has expired, no new comments, no consensus to rename. I think we can probably call this done.
