Not gonna make a new thread YET...

Actually, we do have a thread for 3 already. The forum search system has been a little weird, so don't feel bad.

There's no where else to post this, so apologies for the bump.

I finally have The Sham after doing from extra BNK-3R farming this morning. Yesterday I farmed it for EXP and cash, and I ended up with The Bitch SMG near the end of an hour long run. I'm playing on my first character, Maya on TVHM. She's level 49.

Been playing BL2 on my Switch. Just got to the Hatfields and Mc Coys, I mean the Zafords and Hodunks missions. I'm on the last one, when you have to pick a side and wipe out the other family, because neither has realized you're the one killing them all off.

I know how this ends, but I really wish there was a third option where you just open fire on everybody, kill both clans and get all their loot. I mean, the game makes no bones that they're both bandit clans that casually murder people, so why not just take them both out.

I always picked siding with the Zafords, if only because you never actually see any bandits in the Highlands while the Dust is full of bandits who attack you immediately (which always irritated me when I was trying to farm the two legendary weapons the Veruc and the Lyuda). I always imagined those bandits belonging to the Hodunk clan.

I have a bad habit with not finishing this game. I've only ever made it up as far as rescuing Noland from the Dam.

I tend to go long periods where I don't play the game, and then I'll pick it up and play non-stop for like a week or so. It was the same for Borderlands 1.

Part of me wants to go ahead and get 3 for Switch — from what I've read, it's a pretty good port — but the other part of me is all like, "No, you only recently beat the first game, (for the most part — fuck the Underdome), you haven't even started 2's DLC, and there's still the Pre-Sequel to play through. Number 3 will keep."

I have long since spoiled the plot of these games for myself though, so I already know what happens in 2 and 3, and at least how the Pre-Sequel ends.

I started with 2, and only played 1 afterward. To say 1 is a rough experience is an understatement, as I've only gone through it once with Roland. Meanwhile, I've gone through TVHM with all six characters of 2.

I played through 1 with Mordecai, mainly because I like sniper rifles, and none of the classes' special moves stood out to me.

...Actually, no, that's a lie; I first played 2 at a friend's house. I picked Gunzerker, because I liked having a skill that actually made use of the kamillion guns you pick up throughout the game. When I started my current playthrough, I picked Gunzerker again.

2 is SO much better than 1. I like the presequel the best of the lot, even if it's apparently non-canon now.

Wait, what? Why would it be non-canon?

3... kind of ignored everything that happened in it.

I heard talk that it was made non-canon too but I'm not sure where this was confirmed. It feels more like 3 just decided to do its own thing and the Pre-Sequel stuff got Ret-Gone'd.

Specifically, the stuff with Athena flashbacking the adventure to Lilith, getting kidnapped by an Eridian robot of some kind. That part is Ret-Gone now. The part with Jack turning evil and hiring mercenaries is still canon.

After playing 2 for a while, I gotta say; Bandit weapons are usually pretty shoddy, but they make some damn good rocket launchers; three rockets at once that only cost one ammo and large clips so you can blanket the horizon with explosions. Abysmal reload time, sure, but that's par for the course for launchers, which are long distance weapons anyway.

Heck, I found a legendary rocket launcher once, and then immediately sold it because it was in every way worse than the blue-tier Bandit launcher that I already had.

That's the general consensus. Unless item level shenanigans give you a generic non-RL Bandit weapon that's better than whatever you have they should be avoided. Except for Uniques or named or whatever. A bunch of those are worth grabbing. I think a side quest gives you a decent Unique Bandit shotgun.

It's Bandit and Tediore being the brands I usually avoid, with the exception of Bandit Rocket Launchers and the Badaboom. As a compulsive reloader I don't like wasting entire magazines of ammo that explode in my face.

As a general rule, I don't avoid any brands, going by stats while keeping a good variety of guns.

Although that said, the various manufacturers are not nearly as interchangeable as they were in the first game, so there's gun makes I like and don't like. I already talked about the Bandit launchers, but I've found I don't like the Jakobs Gatling rifle; on paper, it's very powerful, but despite its name, it's not actually automatic — you have to fire it manually, which gets annoying quickly. Plus, it runs out of ammo in, like, two seconds and usually takes a while to reload.

I'm usually complacent when it comes to my preferred manufacturer and weapon types. I always try to bring a Jakobs Pistol, Maliwan SMG, Dahl Assault Rifle (but not for Salvador, he gets a Vladof one), Hyperion Shotgun, Vladof Sniper Rifle, and Bandit Rocket Launcher for all my characters, with varying elements of all types, and a Torgue Pistol and Shotgun for certain situations.

I love Torgue Shotguns. There's nothing quite like getting up close and blasting an enemy leaving nothing but scorch marks and a puddle of blood behind.

Assault rifles already kind of suck in 2 but Jakobs once are the worst. Who thought a semi-automatic assault rifle was a good idea? At least the Jakobs crit bonus offsets the assault rifle crit penalty, I guess.

I don't know much about guns but I think assault rifles do have a semi-auto firing mode? At least, that's what Metal Gear Solid tells me.

MarkVonLewis Since: Jun, 2010
#3097: Jan 4th 2024 at 11:29:28 AM

That's the definition of an assault rifle, having multiple firing modes. All assault rifles have semi-auto and depending on the model they will also have either a 3 round burst or full auto.

Which DAHL does utilize in Borderlands 3 with their weapons. Still doesn't make semi-auto less of an undesirable factor for their SMGs and Assault Rifles though.

Just finished some sidequests in the Caustic Mines. For a place covered in corroding acid, it's really weird how not a one of the enemies I faced were corroded themselves — heck, some of them are weak to corrosion, making you really wonder why they're living here, of all places.

I'm really getting sick of dialogue getting interrupted by more dialogue. Sir Hammerlock is about to say something about how empty revenge feels — only to cut himself off by saying "Go for the eyes!" I'm trying to hear a recording of Handsome Jack's experiments with slag, and then Handsome Jack buts in with some scripted banter. Dude, could you please shut up and let yourself talk!?
