The Unown unleash another barrage of Hidden Power at the group. Meanwhile, the Unown P continues to knock a rather sickly looking Lake around the table, unaware of the carnage ensuing off to the side.

Unown P: ^

Lake: <URK! This is it! This is how I'm gonna' die!>

At least "Death by pinball" was an awesome way to go out...

AU - Dragonspiral Tower

-A certain Dragonite is patrolling a moat, while nomming on a Basculin-

<AU!Nimbus: "Mmm! Not bad!">

-It was nice to know, that even after a few years, some things never changed... He forgot how it was that the moat never seemed to run out of fish to eat... Even with a few thousand mouths taking from it. Something about some small passages towards the bottom that lead out to some nearby streams and lakes or something-

<Patrol Captain!Dragonair: "Hey, tubby! You can eat while working, you know!">

-But still... Things felt... Different. And not just because he wasn't a patrol captain anymore... There were many faces that he no longer saw after returning as a guard... And many new ones that he had not known... Young ones, faces that had grown up in the calm that follows a time of great tribulation-

<AU!Nimbus: "Sorry! Sorry! Er... Where did you need me today?">

<Patrol Captain!Dragonair: "My, you're out of it... Tell me, where did Dragonite patrol back when you were initially here?">

<AU!Nimbus: "Er... The depths. Close to the bridge and those entrances to the moat and catacombs.">

<Patrol Captain!Dragonair: "Then make yourself useful already!">

-Could it be that everyone still was bitter with him? It wasn't as if he had sided with the shrine's enemies on a whim, right? As a guard, you're never supposed to be too proud or too stubborn to beg for the lives of your comrades... Wasn't that the same? And it wasn't as if he relished his experiences afterwards, unlike some of the mons he had met... Even the gods seemed to understand... And if they hadn't... Well... There were plenty of stories of what happened to mons in those cases...-

<AU!Nimbus: "Okay! Okay! I'm going!">

-And swims off-

-No one really liked talking about the last couple of years... The time when Reshiram and Zekrom's vessels were stolen in many ways a dark age... A manifestation of a collective failure of duty by the entire shrine...

... It was a feeling that he couldn't help but relate to-

<AU!Nimbus: "(*sigh*)">

<Nimbus: "Oh, hey!">

<AU!Nimbus: "... Wait a minute, what are you doing here?">

<Nimbus: "Oh, my trainer came to visit the shrine... And... Well... It's kinda cold up above the water, so I figured that I'd pitch in a bit.">

-And here was this total stranger... Who might as well be him... Except he had everything that he could ever have wanted as a guard... He had fought alongside someone who was apparently important. He was close with his teammates... And it sounded like they had others who were deeply proud of them... Why hadn't fate been with him as it was with this stranger?-

<AU!Nimbus: "... Oh. So what is your human's story anyw-">

-And notices a scar on one of his counterpart's wings-

-Huh... Had that always been there?-

<AU!Nimbus: "... How'd you manage to get that?">

-Looking rather uncomfortable-

<Nimbus: "Uh... I'd rather not talk about it...">

<AU!Nimbus: "... Did you crash into something shortly after you evolved?">

<Nimbus: "No! I didn't get it that way!">

<AU!Nimbus: "... So then what's so bad about it, then?">

<Nimbus: "I got it from being beaten to within an inch of my life...">

-O_O What? That wasn't something that he had expected to hear...-

-Awkwardly-

<AU!Nimbus: "Oh, er... Sorry about that... Uh... It got better, right?">

<Nimbus: "I guess... But I don't really like thinking about how I got it...">

<AU!Nimbus: "It's alright, I understand...">

-Offering the remains of the Basculin-

<AU!Nimbus: "Er... Need a bite?">

-... So even this stranger's got things he'd rather not talk about. It couldn't have been that bad though, could it? Then again... Maybe that would hold true for his own life... It wasn't ideal, yeah... But he had made friends... Ones who were within a short flight's reach

There was time to worry about that later, duty calls, after all...

Hope that those guys remember not to lock the station door later today-

-What to do with it though... Just snatching it would be the most straightforward way... But definitely the riskiest... Humans didn't like it if you took things without giving them coins or money first. They called it 'stealing'. But then why would you leave things in plain view for other humans to pick up and hold if they weren't meant to take them?-

<"Young Girl": "Uh... That's a bit more than I was expecting...">

-Why that's half a bus fare to Opelucid! Or at least... It would be if buses could still GO to Opelucid normally... The bridge wasn't expected to be reopened for another 9 months!

Still... It wasn't impossible right? It's amazing what humans leave lying around for change. Enough money for a soda pop, a small toy, or heck, a human meal like a burger if you're lucky-

<"Young Girl": "Hmm... Better get started, then...">

-Besides... It seemed worth the asking price-

Unfettered, the Unown launches Lake back up the chute to continue the game.

Lake: <TELL NADIA I LOVE HER!!!>

The other Unown, however, don't take this so lightly.

Unown Q: <That one said not to interfere! These ones must be punished!>

Unown V: <This one thinks we should send these ones away so that The P can play in peace!>

Unown A: <This one agrees!>

Two Unown T and E, one Unown L, an Unown P, an Unown O and a Unown R float up.

Unown T: <These ones will send you to space!>

They then begin to re-arrange themselves, spelling out "TELEPORT", before beginning to glow as they activate their power. But before they can send the Pokémon to a cold, dark death, another Unown suddenly materializes at the end of the line.

Unown M: <Is this one too late to see the Crocodillian Pinballations?>

The Unown M's timely arrival changes the word from "TELEPORT" to "TELEPORTM", which doesn't mean anything, therefore canceling the teleport.

Unown E: <Oh no!>

Unown O: <The M has ruined everything!>

-And draws near to the Metapod and begins feeding on it with Francis-

-Drawing near-

<Guarde: "Oh good morning, trusty bard! I see that you're serenading your-">

-And sees the two feeding on the Metapod-

-And starts to look a little ill at the sight of the Metapod being devoured-

<Francis: "Do you mind?">

<Guarde: "... Right, I'll come back later.">

-And turns and leaves-

-Calling after Guarde-

<Chord: "Mmph. It's not as if it's that different when it's covered with silk you know!">

<Francis: "Eh, let him go. Besides...">

-Giving a small smirk-

<Francis: "We get to be alone this way...">

-Giving the Ariados equivalent of a blush-

The Unown blinks at • curiously, then floats down to Lake and peers through the bubble at him. True to •'s words, the Feraligatr inside looks both battered and ill.

Lake: <Mommy... @_@

Unown P: <Oh dear. This one did not think that the Feraligatr would come to harm from this one's playing but it seems that this one overestimated the tolerance of the Feraligatr.>

The Unown gives Lake a sad look.

The Unown • removes Lake from the table and sets him on the ground gently, then flies up to the other Unown

Unown •: <As for these ones, were they not the first to attack? The Audino was trying to help the Feraligatr peacefully, but these ones attacked it. Is this one mistaken?>
