Scarlette: Thank you, I... wish I had a way to return the favor.

Anabel: Oh, there's no need, I promise.

Kukui: Just try to stay safe while we work toward that, 'kay? There's something about Fallers that somehow tends to attract Ultra Beasts, and they're very dangerous if only because we don't understand them and they don't understand us.

If not for the fact that I wanted Scarlette to not actually encounter an Ultra Beast until later, this would be a perfect point for one to burst through the wall, but oh well :P

-A tall, pale man with messy reddish-brown hair and glasses is wandering around as if looking for something. A Gallade is walking alongside him.-

Umbra, I know you were talking to Tagg, but please, for the love of Arceus, do that.

Shaun walked up to Hala. "Hello, Kahuna Hala."

Hala: "Oh, greetings Shaun! You aren't back for another round, are you?"

Shaun: "Heh-heh, not yet. I picked up a Ride Pager, and I remember you saying that you could give me the Tauros Charge."

Hala: "Oh, of course!"

-He registers the function in Shaun's Poke Ride.-

Hala: "A Tauros will provide a mount and allow you to break through weak rock."

Shaun: "Thanks. Also, do you know where I could get a Z-Ring?"

Hala: "Oh, I knew that I forgot something. Here."

-He hands Shaun a Z-Ring.-

Shaun: "Thank you, but, uh, how do I use it?"

-Hala explains how to use the ring and demonstrates the Normalium-Z pose.-

Shaun: "Interesting. Thanks, Hala. Next time we meet, I'll have a few aces up my sleeve."

Hala: *laughs* "So will I, my boy! So will I!"

-Once Daydre is a safe distance away, Alonya pulls out her phone and speaks to Oran OS-

Alonya: Did you get all that?

Oran OS: Recorded every last word.

Alonya: Well, it wasn't much. But I suspect that girl was part of the J-Team, and she said herself they frequently work together with the law, putting them straight in the way of my job description.

Oran OS: Giving you total authority to take them down if they mess with Team Iron or Best Berry?

Alonya: -cracks her knuckles- Precisely.

-The man and Gallade may notice her-

Verdant Cavern

Ilima: ...once again, I'm so sorry to have kept you waiting for days. We just haven't had a request like yours in the history of the Island Challenge, as far as I recall.

(Ilima is heading into the depths of the cavern, as he usually does when about to commence a Trial. Trailing him are Simon and Belinda - the latter looking excited, the former looking fed up.)

Belinda: Okay, so we have to beat three lil' rodents and then a big-ass rodent. Got it!

Ilima: That's one way of putting it, I suppose. But where you would usually work together to take them out, here you're going to see which of you can manage it faster. I know, it seems like a pathetically minor change given it took several days of delays, but I decided to tell the other Captains about your idea and they've apparently made more... substantial alterations to their Trials.

(Simon can't help but raise an eyebrow at this comment.)

Ilima: Well, enough blather from me! Your Island Challenge begins... now!

(Belinda rushes forward, Aziraphale at her heel, while Simon slowly, unenthusiastically trudges towards the burrows. On both sides, the sounds of small creatures scurrying scurrying start up as they approach...)

-The man does indeed notice her.-

Dr. Kraus: Oh, pardon me. Might I ask for directions?

Hau'oli City

-Alonya blinks at the man-

Alonya: ...Sure. To where?

Dr. Kraus: To two places, actually. I'm looking for a certain hotel—hold on, I have the name somewhere...

-He digs through his bag and pulls it out, showing her.-

...And I'm also looking for a store that carries video games.

Hau'oli City

Alonya: For the first, let me check my GPS...

Oran OS: That hotel is by the masalada shop!

Alonya: What it said. And I think I saw a [GAMESTOP] down the street.

-Kraus nods.-

Dr. Kraus: All right, thank you.

-The Gallade stares at Alonya and tilts his head.-

Gallade: <Hmmm...>

Hau'oli City

Alonya: -leers at the Gallade- What?

-The Gallade tilts his head in the other direction.-

Gallade: <What was that?>

Verdant Cavern, Simon's Side

(From the burrows, two Gumshoos and a Rattata emerge, sniffing the air for a hint of their opponents. It doesn't take long before a strange fruity yet plastic scent - one they can instantly recognise by now as the distinctive odour of a Popplio - reaches their nostrils; the rodents charge in, eagerly anticipating a fight.)

(What they see instead is a totally immobile sealmon being repeatedly poked by her irate Trainer's boot.)

Simon: Get up.

Madrugada: <Meeeh.>

Simon: Get up.

Madrugada: (rolls onto her other side) <Meeeeeeehh.>

Simon: Arceus dammit can you say anything other than "meh"?

Madrugada: <Maybe.>

Simon: >8(

Rattata: <...a-hem.>

(Simon whips around, looking slightly shaken. Honestly, he's never going to get used to understanding Pokemon.)

Rattata: <Are we, uh, interrupting something?>

Madrugada: <Nope.>

Simon: Madrugada just get up already

Madrugada: <meeeeeeeeeeeeeeh>

(The three rodentmons just stand there, looking terribly confused.)

Verdant Cavern, Belinda's Side

(The problem Belinda faces is the exact opposite of her brother's.)

Belinda: Okay, Aziraphale, first I want you to-

Aziraphale: <AT LAST, A FIGHT!> >:D

(The Litten immediately charges at an emerging Yungoos and begins aggressively chomping at it with blazing incisors.)

Belinda: Aziraphale no D:

(The Yungoos, terrified of the Litten that seems determined to maul it beyond recognition, scurries back into its burrow.)

(This simply prompts Aziraphale to follow it.)

Aziraphale: <YOU CAN'T RUN FROM ME, COWARDS!>

Yungoos: <AAAAAAAAA>

(...)

Countless Yungoos and Rattata: <AAAAAAAAA>

(Belinda can't see the ensuing battle, but she can definitely hear it. Amidst all the terrified rodent noises, the sounds of a spitting cat and a seemingly endless torrent of flame are clearly audible.)

Belinda: ...holy crap what do I do now. .-.

Iki Town, last night

Guess I'll be sure to watch my back as we continue to explore Alola, and Scarlette's too.

I'll be sure to keep a lookout.

Hau'oli City

Alonya: ...My GPS.

Gallade: <Oh. My mistake.>

-He starts walking away with Dr. Kraus.-

Hau'oli City

-Alonya quickly dissapears into a shadow when she thinks the Gallade isn't looking-

Scarlette: Yeah, I will too.

Anabel: Okay, good. Anyway, I'm sorry to cut this off so abruptly, but I have some business that I need to attend to elsewhere. It was a pleasure to meet you two, Scarlette and Tagg, and it's been nice seeing you again, Professor Kukui.

Kukui: Any time!

Scarlette: See you. I, uh, guess I'll head out too, then.

-They head off.-

Kukui: Anyway, Tagg, it's good to see you again after... geez, how long has it been?

Hau'oli City

-While Scarlette has been with Tagg, Anabel, and Kukui, Rose has been dealing with her own problems.-

Punk: Hey, you! You look exactly like the sorta person I'm looking for.

Rose: -blinks- ...Okay?

Punk: -scoffs- "Okay"? That's it? You should be a lot more scared when someone from Team Skull is getting up in your face, I think!

Rose: I mean, from what I've heard, you guys are kind of a joke? Not exactly the most flattering reputation.

Punk: Grr... whatever! Point is, someone in Team Skull's got a bone to pick with you!

Rose: ...Whatever. Let's just battle already.

Tyto: <Kanto?>

Muddy: <Where Tagg's from. It's on an island, but way bigger than any of the Alolan islands. I'm from Hoenn myself, and Helios is Unovan. Hitodama and Akiko are technically Almian and Oblivian.>

Helios: <Oblivia's kinda like Alola, but not exactly the same.>

-Is standing quietly by the arena-

-Kukui mutters to himself silently as he counts off the years on his fingers-

Kukui: It really has been quite a time, then. But hey, now that you're here in Alola, we can easily plan a rematch!

Hau'oli City

-Punk sends out his Drowzee, while Rose sends out Domino.-

Drowzee: <...I don't need to see into the future to be able to tell this won't go well.>

Nora: <Yeah, that's your problem, not mine. Sorry!>

Rose: Nora, Volt Tackle.

-Nora crackles with electricity and rams the Drowzee full-force.-

Drowzee: <Oof!>

Punk: Confusion!

Drowzee: <I'm sure a Headbutt would be better but whatever.>

-He sends a disorienting wave of Psychic energy at Nora's mind. It gives her a painful headache, but doesn't do particularly major damage.-

Nora: <Come on, that's just disappointing.>

Drowzee: <Just finish the job please.>

Nora: <Fine, whatever. Boring.>

-Nora uses another Volt Tackle, which is already enough to knock the Drowzee unconscious. The sparks around her disappear, but it turns out she's glowing, which then fades to reveal a Pikachu where a Pichu once stood.-

Nora: <All right! Keep coming at me, I can take whatever you've got!>

Rose: Oh, good job, Nora! So, what's next?

Punk: ...

Rose: ...

Nora:

Punk: ...

Rose: ...You're kidding me. That whole bravado, and that was your only Pokemon?

Nora: <Geez, that's even more of a letdown.>

Punk: I thought this was gonna be an easy job, so I didn't bring any other team members! B-but whatever, I did what I needed to do!

-He takes off. Rose facepalms.-

Rose: There he goes...

Po Town — Later

-A group of Team Skull grunts are all assembled, fidgeting nervously. It's definitely not nearly as big as the team used to be before. In front of them is a familiar girl with reddish-brown hair and a new jacket more or less styled after the usual Skull Tank.-

Paula: All right, listen up, pipsqueaks! Since ya boy chickened out after bunch of kids beat him, and since Plumeria decided to abandon y'all too, somebody needs to step in and boss you guys around properly. So, I've decided I'm gonna be that somebody! Unless, of course, anyone thinks they can do better?

-There is an uncomfortable silence.-

Paula: Anyone at all.

-More silence.-

Paula: Speak now or forever hold your peace.

-One of the grunts coughs awkwardly.-

Paula: Hmm? You got something?

-The rest of the grunts looks at her, putting her on the spot.-

Grunt 1: W-well, um... w-what about the Mayor?

-Paula raises an eyebrow-

Paula: What about her?

Grunt 1: I mean, um, she said she was taking power too, r-right? You always did say a good Team Skull member should just storm in and act like they own the place...

Paula: Sure, if you'd rather be bossed around by someone who just dropped out of nowhere rather than someone who actually knows what it's like in Team Skull, go ahead.

-There's a brief pause, then a few of the grunts shuffle out of the meeting.-

Paula: ...That— that was supposed to be rhetorical! She doesn't know a damn thing about being a leader!

-She facepalms-

Paula: Ugh, whatever. Anyone else wanna fuck off, or are you all sticking with the real Team Skull?

-A moment of hesitation, before the grunts start murmuring amongst themselves, then give a variety of vaguely affirmative responses.-

Paula: Good! That's what I like to hear!

-She sees another, more familiar grunt running up to the crowd.-

Paula: And speaking of things I like to hear, what's the news, Punk?

Punk: Well, the girl that you said looked like you? She's here. Well, not here here, but in Melemele. And she looks a ton like you. Like, really.

Paula: Sweeeeet. This is gonna be a fun time after all!
