Robin: I think I might know where this glitch in reality came from... And... Have firsthand knowledge of exactly how dangerously powerful they are, moreso than even most of the rest of Team Umbra.

Robin: Apparently there's a rogue PEFE supercomputer that's been a recurring foe of you J-Teamers... Ammy helped you guys fight it in her home world... Then Umbra helped fight another variant in Kalos...

Sholto: <...Huh, wonder who'd...>

-The sword gets up and unsheathes itself-

Honedge: <Nah, I still couldn't find out why I was on that train, so...>

Lilycove - Earlier Today

Jacob is strolling along the shore of the beach, looking around for Sylva whom he is playing hide and seek with.

"... You know upon retrospect it might have been a bad idea to play this with her on a beach."

He's looking around when he feels his Holocaster buzz with a message, and he takes it out to look at it.

Although it was supposed to be anonymous, Jacob would be easily able to notice that it came from Hikari's phone and in fact as soon as he would notice such a thing he got another text

Jacob, reading this, is somewhat confused. He tilts his head until it's nearly horizontal. "I… Well. This is. Sudden. Sylva!" He calls out, and the head of the Phione pops out of the water.

<Jayjay~ Haihai!> She giggled and waved. Jacob sighed and waved her over.

"Get your mother. I think I have a date with destiny tonight. Or Hikari. Possibly both." Sylva looked at him a little confused but nods, and dashes off. Jacob sighs, turning to look up at the sky. "... Alright, I'll play your little game." And he turned to walk away, preparing for the night.

Department Store Rooftop - Now

Jacob bursts out of the doors leading into the building striding forward, his coat whipping in the crisp night air. His pace slows to a stop as he sees who else is here. ".... Marie. Long time no see."

Marie was standing with an impassive expression as she held her Holocaster in one hand, fiddling with it "Yes, a bit too long I might say."

Jacob folds his arms, looking unimpressed "... Where is she? Are you a part of this too?"

"She's waiting." her eyes then divert to the holocaster for a moment before looking back at Jacob "Today might just be the day where you will get some answers you have been looking for." she gave a little shrug. "Though you might get a little disappointed by them."

Jacob unfolds his arms to take a challenging step forward. "I won't be disappointed with the truth, Marie." He leers at her, "What is this about? What game are you two playing here?"

Marie smiled slightly "You're a very no-nonsense type of guy aren't you? I have to wonder how you ended up falling for a girl who's full of nonsense. Maybe the opposites truly do attract."

Jacob shook his head, still frowning slightly but a happy glint in his eyes "Maybe. Though, it wasn't the nonsense that made me fall for her." He's silent for a long moment as his coat billows in the breeze. "Though, you never answered my question."

Marie sighed "Look, I didn't really want to get myself involved in this, but… Hikari isn't sure on whether she wants to talk about it to you, so we're testing you."

Jacob raised an eyebrow, more interested. "If she didn't want to talk to me about it, I'd prefer she just tell me that and I'd leave it alone. But... testing me? What exactly did you bring me up here for?"

"Well, I'm testing you through something you certainly enjoy." she smiled. "This roof is a pretty big area for a battle, after all."

"... Marie." He widens his stance slightly, his eyes narrowing "... Why a battle? What will that prove?"

"Nothing." she shrugged "Nothing at all."

"... Fine. Then I accept." He unfolds his arms again and reaches for a Pokeball. "I will fight you in earnest. If you can't draw on every ounce of power and talent at your disposal, this will be very short, Marie."

"I know, a random blogger just can't be a match for a champion." she smiled "Thankfully, there is such a thing as strength in numbers."

And it's at this point that Hikari shows up on the roof, looking a bit more bashful than usual but still trying to look cheerful

"Hey Jacob. How good are you at a two versus one?" she giggled a little.

Jacob's eyes widened a little bit in surprise, feeling his heart jump a little, he sighs and smirks "That's an excellent question, let's get the answer now, then."

"Then, if you win, I'll tell you everything you want to know about silly old me." Hikari smiled

"I just hope you keep your expectations low." Marie added as she adjusted her glasses.

"My expectations are probably too high, but regardless… Let the games begin, ladies. Let's make tonight a night to remember!"

"Okay, Regina, Argentum, lead the way!" And the two were sent out, Regina stretching out, her Gardevoirite hanging from her neck, Argentum pounding the ground in anticipation, his Guard Bracelet wrapped around his leg.

Regina giggled and focused, "<Oh? Starting out with me? You must want to end this quickly.>"

Jacob shrugged, though his face betrayed his excitement "What can I say? I don't intend to hold back, especially not to the person closest to me."

Marie grimaced "You sure picked the dramatic one." she said as she picked up a Pokéball

Hikari giggled "Yep. More dramatic than the cheesiest of soap operas, that's Jacob." she said as she picked up her own Pokéball.

Marie then sends out a Froslass while Hikari sends out an Escavalier, the former holding an Icy Rock and the latter wearing an Assault Vest.

"All right, Gracieuse, bring in the cold." said Marie

"<With pleasure>" she answered, politely bowing to her opponents

She then released some cold air to the sky and soon a hailstorm began through the area.

"And we go right out! The strongest ones are the first to go down!" said Hikari, raising an arm up enthusiastically "Garret, Iron Head!"

"<Yes, ma'am!>"

He then rushed towards Regina, attempting to headbutt her with his helmet. Argentum rushed in front of Garret, stumbling backwards from the blow but not taking all together too much damage, trying his best to ignore the hail.

Jacob just smirked. "What can I say, it's part of my charm. Now then, Regina!" He flung out his arm clutched his pendant, "Let us display the maelstrom of power that is the white queen!" He pressed down on the Key Stone, Regina becoming enveloped in white light.

As the light faded she did a small twirl, <Alright, let's get serious.>

Jacob pointed at the Escavalier and Froslass with an open hand "Crush them!" Regina's eyes started to glow in response, the air twisting and shimmering around her, as she lobbed a large orb of ghostly energy at Gracieuse. However, as the hail and snow fell on the roof the Froslass was able to hide herself in it fairly well, enough to get away from the Shadow Ball.

"<It's not going to be this easy I'm afraid, dearie. But don't worry, I'll retribute in kind.>" Gracieuse giggled

"Go at it again!" said Hikari

Gracieuse then began generating her own orb of ghostly energy and she seemed ready to fire it at Regina. At the same time Garret tried once again to headbutt her, but as he went, Gracieuse changed her target at the last second to hit Argentum with it and prevent him from getting in the way again. Regina steps back, and dances out of Garret's way at the very last moment, sighing softly as she gathers energy. Argentum attempts to slide out of the way but is struck, and staggers backwards, the Light Screen from the bracelet reducing the damage further.

Jacob narrowed his eyes "Well, this is incredibly annoying, Argentum, return." He recalled the Metagross, sending out a Charizard, holding a Life Orb. "Phlegethon, let's turn up the heat." The Charizard nodded, flapping his wings, clearing out the hailstorm clouds and letting moonlight shine brightly down on to the roof, the heat rising.

"<Oh my…>" said Gracieuse as she watched her snow disappear.

"Thunder Wave!" said Marie

"Knock Off!" said Hikari

Gracieuse then sent some jolts of electricity at Phlegethon to paralyze him, all the while Garret attempted to hit him and knock away his Life Orb at the same time. Regina snapped her eyes open and pinned Gracieuse in place with Telekinesis, Phlegethon darting out of the way of the electricity, but ends up dodging into Garret's strike, smacking away the Life Orb and taking a bit of additional damage. He just kind of looks at Garret with an annoyed expression.

"Heat Wave!" Jacob called out. Phelgethon nodded roaring and flapping his wings, blasting the roof with a gale of stinging hot wind.

The attack strikes both of them, but both manage to hold on even though Garret clearly took a massive amount of damage from the attack even without the Life Orb.

"<Tch…>" grunted Garret, panting a little

"<Rude!>" said Gracieuse, wincing.

"Well, this is bad." said Hikari, grimacing

"Good thing we had that Assault Vest." said Marie, still looking impassive

"Let's keep going! Poison Jab!" said Hikari

"<Yes… Ma'am.>"

Garret then attempted to stab with one of his spear, it being covered in poison. Phlegethon leaps in front of Garret, taking severe damage and falling to half his health, and promptly grabs the Escavalier and slams into him with a Flare Blitz, staring silently. Garret didn't seem to be very surprised by it, in fact, he seemed to have been expecting it, nevertheless he still ends up being taken out almost immediately

"<Oh come on, you'll need to do better than that!>" Regina calms herself even more and hurls a Shadow Ball at Gracieuse.

Jacob shrugs and shakes his head "If you can't adapt, you'll never survive. That's a fundamental rule of battle."

A smirk then showed itself in Marie's expression "Destiny Bond."

"<Well, why don't you join me, dear?>" Gracieuse calmly said as she braced for impact, a ghastly aura showing up around her.

Upon fainting to the Shadow Ball, the aura moved over to Regina and began draining all of her energy in a matter of seconds, bringing her down alongside the Froslass.

"I've watched you fight, you know." Marie giggled "That's why I knew that focusing on your Gardevoir would be pretty pointless, not only would she be hard to take down, we would take far too much damage in the process and probably wouldn't get very far. That's why the best way to take her out is in a single move, through a method that no Pokémon would be able to resist no matter how strong."

Hikari then raised her hand for a high five "Atta girl! The plan worked perfectly!"

The two friends then high-five each other, both of them looking at each other with a huge grin on their faces.

Jacob stands there for a moment, then he laughs "Well done. I'll admit this will be a bit more entertaining than I thought it would be initially. Now then, I think this has gone on long enough. Argentum, take the field." And he sends out the Metagross again, the Guard Bracelet on his leg gleaming as the Light Screen and Reflect were put up once again.

Marie and Hikari both return their fainted mons to their Pokéballs. The former then sends a yellow Florges holding a Lum Berry and the latter sends out Azure holding a Weakness Policy.

"<Good evening~>" said the Florges

"<Hiii Jacob~>" said Azure, waving at him

"All right, Belle, Calm Mind." said Marie.

"<Very well.>" she then takes a deep breath and begins gathering energy

"Azure, Brick Break!" said Hikari, pointing at Argentum

"<Okay!>"

She then rushes at Argentum, trying to basically karate chop him as strong as she could muster. The strike breaks through the barrier around Argentum and knocks him back, and staggers forward.

"<Ouch. My precious feelings.>" The tone of the Metagross could not be more deadpan.

"By the way Jacob you never told me about that little trinket." Hikari giggled "Don't think I didn't notice there wasn't something up with Argentum earlier."

Jacob shrugged, smiling "Oh I thought you'd catch on. Anyhow, Argentum, Phlegethon, you know what to do." Argentum's eyes gleam as he uses Rock Polish, his carapace becoming shiny, as he leaps over Azure and rushes at Belle with a Meteor Mash, his strength increasing. Phlegethon darts over towards the Florges, his tail gleaming, striking at her with an Iron Tail. She gets hit by both, but manages to hold on, keeping a weak smile on her face

"Synthesis!" said Marie

Belle then begins using the light to regain her energy, it being further boosted by the Sunny Day from earlier, managing to restore her to close to full health.

"<Don't forget about me!>"

Azure then fire herself at Phlegethon while surrounded by water, attempting to tackle him with it even though the heat made the water significantly less effective. Sadly, from the damage the Charizard had taken earlier it was enough to take him out, and he stumbles back and faints. Jacob recalls him and smirks.

"Well, this is impressive but sadly I don't think it'll be enough. Okay, Helian, take the field." He sends out the Sceptile, who is wearing some Choice Specs. "Okay, Argentum, again! Helian!"

"<Acknowledged.>" Argentum uses Hone Claws, zeroing in his focus on Belle before hammering her with another Meteor Mash.

"<PLAY TIME~>" Helian bounds forward happily before letting loose with a powerful Solar Beam, blasting straight at Azure.

This time Belle makes an effort to dodge the Meteor Mash and does so gracefully before attempting to hit Argentum with a Moonblast. Azure tanks the Solar Beam the best she can, withstanding the attack and getting the boost from the Weakness Policy

"<Yes! Let's play!>" Azure grinned

She then proceeds to leap at Helian and attack him with a Play Rough. Helian, though taking rather significant damage, seems to enjoy the the big ball of violence he gets into, though, it does end up knocking him out.

Jacob scowls slightly, but remains calm. This is why I hate items. I never have the right ones. He continues to berate himself mentally as the fight progresses.

Argentum staggers backwards, the Moon Blast taking him down a notch and he glares. He uses Hone Claws again, even further increasing his accuracy and striking power, and lunges forward again with another Meteor Mash. "<You can't dodge me forever.>" This time though, Belle didn't manage to hit and ended up being hit right on the face and knocked out almost instantly.

"<ow>" she weakly said

Marie winced "It was probably a bad idea to send her in."

"Well, it's all up to me now, and we're so close!" said Hikari, starting to get very hyped "Azure! Knock Off!"

Azure then moves over to Argentum and attempts to knock off the Guard Bangle from him swiftly. The strike smacks away the Guard Bangle and sends it skidding away, the force of the strike knocking Argentum down to his last legs.

"<... I… refuse… to lose…>"

Jacob nods to Argentum, and smiles at Hikari. "... Thank you. For being the one to make it here to the end. But I'm afraid, as much as it hurts, that was your last chance. Argentum, finish this now with a single strike."

Argentum leers, pushes himself to his feet and groans. He uses Hone Claws one more time and rushes at Azure, his front foot beginning to spark with electricity as he slams into her with a Thunder Punch, caught by surprise by the fact he was still standing, Azure is struck by the punch and knocked back a little before landing on the ground

"Oh no… Come on, Azure, just one more hit…!" said Hikari, looking hopeful

In spite of it all Azure trying to stand up again, but it didn't last very long before she fell again

"<Sorry Hikari… I don't think I can do any more than this.>" said Azure, before passing out.

Department Store Roof

Marie and Hikari both sigh, the former going to attend to her own fainted mon, with Hikari just sending Azure back to her ball. Hikari soon begins to giggle though.

"Well, that was pretty fun. A random scientist and a blogger almost taking out a champion is pretty great." she giggled more. Jacob sighs and shakes his head, wanting to jump in and make excuses for how he wasn't prepared but instead smiles.

"Indeed. Now don't go bragging about it or else no one will ever take me seriously, but yeah, wow, you're better than you let on."

"Nah…" her smile fades "I had Marie to back me up. I'm not really the kind of girl you think I am." she lets out a giggle again. Jacob smiles sadly, recalling Argentum. "Hikari…" He stops for a moment and walks over to towards her. "I know I don't know everything about you but… it's alright? I don't know I've never been good with… talking… about my feelings but. I think… I already love you for you, I just want you to love you." He shuffles his feet and looks down "I just… I'm sorry I probably sound like an idiot right now but I don't know what I'm trying to say." He rubs the back of his head.

Hikari sighed and glanced at Marie for a moment who was too distracted to pay attention to her, then she took a deep breath

"... Once, when I was little, my parents left me at home alone while they went to take care of some stuff. I was already capable enough to take care of myself but… Sometime later I heard something weird going on outside. Some of the Pokémon we were raising were looking really sick and I didn't know why. I panicked because I had no idea what to do, so I just went to get some of the medicine my parents kept and gave it to the sick Pokémon but… It was the wrong one." she paused for a moment, looking down "I killed it, just like that."

Jacob paused, looking at Hikari for a bit then looking up into the sky. "... I see. I… everyone makes mistakes but… doing that as a kid… I can't imagine how much it must have affected you…"

"And then it happened again!" Hikari even lets out a few sad chuckles "Years after it, after spending a lot of time raising Pokémon even by myself for a long time. A Pokémon gets really sick again and I know exactly what I have to do. But then I just freeze in place, everything just becomes a blur and by the time I came back to my senses it was too late. I wasn't even the one who was sick, but somehow it felt like I was going to die somehow."

"..." Jacob sits there for a moment taking it all in, then he nods. "It must have been hard. I'm… sorry, Hikari." He looks down and back at her. "I'm sorry you had to go through that. But… I don't understand. Is… is the fact you did that what made this such a problem?" He closes his eyes. "... What… what happened after that?"

"Nothing. There was a burial, I talked to my parents about it but life kept going and even though it happened again I just had bear with it and keep going." she gave an almost ironic smile "After all, I'm the crazy girl who does all that silly nonsense stuff that people find funny and is hyped up all the time, right? I gotta keep up the image."

"... So… who are you then, really?" He sighs and nods again "Because that's the you I want to get to know better, if you like it. I never fell in love with you because of your antics. Honestly? It was because you would talk to me. You were fun to talk to, you were nice, you were smart. Sure, I love how everyday's an adventure with you but… that's not why we became friends, Hikari. I… sorry. I know this isn't about us but…" He shakes his head and looks at her "But I don't want you to have to wear a mask if it drains you."

Hikari remained silent at this point, not knowing how to answer it. Fortunately Marie was around to break the silence as she had just sent Belle back to her Pokéball.

"After the first incident, that's when I came in. I was in a trip to Sinnoh and I wanted to get a new Pokémon, so I visited her place with my dad. I saw many different Pokémon and I wanted to play with them, so I snuck out and tried to get to them. Then I saw her, sitting in front of what seemed like a grave." she sighed "I tried to make small talk, to cheer her up a little bit, I told her that things would get better if she just tried to find reasons to be happy. I guess she ended up taking that advice a little far…"

"I didn't really have any friends. I just liked to stay home away from everybody else and just do my own thing. I was a bit scared that people wouldn't like me and treat me badly because of it so I just stayed away from all of it. Marie was the first person I could really consider to be a friend back then."

"I got her to cheer up and we became friends, for the time I was in Sinnoh we hanged around together. Eventually we met two other people who also became our friends, a boy and a girl. We had a lot of fun together but well… I had to leave one day."

"First Marie… then… the boy… One by one they had to leave to other places and I lost contact. I still had a friend but I kinda had it in my mind that one day she would end up leaving as well so at that point I… just stopped caring, I guess."

Jacob sits there, silent for a moment. "... Hm." He closes his eyes. "... I understand feeling like everyone will leave you but I can promise, no matter what happens, you'll have friends like Marie, like Sakura, like me. If no one else I'm not going anywhere. But…" He thinks to himself. "I think… I think trying to find reasons to be happy in itself isn't a bad thing. Faking how happy you are, sure. But being happy and focusing on the bright side, even if that leads you to do some goofy things, isn't bad. I think that's part of who you are now, even if it wasn't you at first." He looks at Marie, "Though, now I understand. Why you acted so confused. The Hikari you must have known would have been much less… eccentric. Since you never saw her after she adopted that behavior. Though… I suppose I owe you some measure of thanks, for helping her when she had no one else. So… thank you."

"You don't need to thank me for having some human decency…" Marie rolled her eyes.

"But… Even Sakura left eventually. Sure, we still kept some contact but… It's the same principle." Hikari gave a sad smile.

Jacob raises an eyebrow at Marie "You'd be surprised how many people lack that." He shifts his focus back to Hikari. "... Then my last statement holds, if no one else, I promise I won't leave unless you ever want me to." He hesitates, and slowly reaches out to take her hand. "If that's what you're worried about, your friends leaving you because of who you are, or just… leaving in general, you can let that go now. You can be whoever you want to be. Just… do what you want for you."

"I knew you would stick around. You're the kind of guy who would go through hell and back for someone you care about." she smiled "I just… thought you would be happier with me if I kept being the same girl you've always known."

Jacob smiles a small painful smile "I want to say I'm happy no matter who you are, I'll admit the girl I fell for was the one I've always known but… I think I could very quickly learn to like the new one. If. That's something you're comfortable with." He lets go of her hand and he relaxes. "I just want you to be happy with who you are. I'll be happy no matter what."

"To be honest, it's really fun to mess with you, pranking you or just generally being silly. You never seem to get annoyed with it no matter how far I go with my antics. If there's anyone where I was genuinely acting crazy for, it was probably you." she sniffs a little "So…"

And there's a brief moment of silence before Hikari essentially throws herself at Jacob and hugs him very tightly without saying anything else. Jacob jumps a little in surprise, and hugs her back, leaning his head against hers. He sighs, and smiles.

"To see that smile? Hikari I'd keep coming back for more shenanigans every day." He pulls back slightly to look at her, and he leans in and kisses her for a long moment. After it ends and he breaks it off he looks at with small hints of tears welling in his eyes. "... I love you, you know. Maybe I shouldn't because you're way better than anything I ever deserved, but do, and I'm happy you trust me and shared this with me."

While Hikari and Jacob were kissing, Marie took this rather opportune moment to take a picture of it using her holocaster, which certainly didn't go unnoticed by Hikari.

"Marie…?" said Hikari, a little confused.

"Golly, I got front row seats to a Jakari kiss." joked Marie, with a sly smile on her face.

"..." Jacob stares at Marie. "..."

"....."

"............"

"................"

"................" He sighs "You know what, I'm just going to accept it today. It is too late at night for me to be upset about this. Speaking of, let's go get a hotel room and go to sleep. I think we're all ready for the past to be the past now."

He smiles brightly as the trio leave the roof.

Robin: Well... Apparently this thing has been spreading quite a bit since it was created, before even Sinnoh... It messed around in the regions you all went to after Kalos... Nico fought a fragment of it that filled in for the Smorg in his Paper Mario adventure... And on my end...

...Well, certain things in the asteroid incident kinda cleared things up in that specific regard... But let's just say I'm still a bit paranoid from another part some of this thing's still in my DNA somewhere.

-There's an unusual abundance of Murkrow in a deep corner of the forest.-

What we used to do was have some prolonged slog with them while getting Mind Raped until we managed to get the legendaries to show up to do them in.

Well let's see, there was the time Missingno possessed Palkia and got us dumped in PMD-A where I temporarily lost my memory, that sick trick Missingno pulled to get Giratina the Second to join him, the time Missingno tried to kill us by possessing Kygore, Missingno making us face our worst fears, 'M possessing Steven for at least six years with no one the wiser while making Wolf another of his thralls, 'M possessing Iris and forcing Wolf and I to fight her, the time 'M possessed Clay and turned him 50 feet tall that got poor Yanmega eviscerated when Anom's group flew into that Zoroark territory, 'M turning children into shiny glitchy Charizard and having their vocal chords removed because their cries annoyed him, 'M possessing Alder and Jane, and getting the latter accidently strangled to death before she got revived during that melee with the Plasmorons, 'M Mind Raping us again, 'M's anti-legendary shield necessitating Anom making a sacrifice to bring it down that nearly cost him his entire existence.

Believe me when I say if this Glitch is anywhere near as bad as they were, it'll be the toughest thing we'd have faced since that whole business with Primal Dialga.
