Dark Souls

Dark Souls, a spiritual successor to Demon's Souls. And apparently it's going to be more brutal.

I still can't hear the chiming of glass bells without an instant reaction of terror, but I yearn for this game already.

Now there won't even be bells, you'll just get paralyzed by the mind flayer and die before you can even react.

Oh, I'm sorry, couldn't get out of the way in time? Clearly Demon's Souls has tought you nothing. We'll just have to make the game harder so you'll eventually learn.

I'm kinda hoping they allow team invasions this time around. I've had a good few times where I've fought off two blue phantoms and a Body Form player, but there are some times you just want to have even odds without resorting to the massive gamble that is the red eye stone.

On the other hand, it would just be a bitch-and-a-half to see four different people invading you while you're roughing it solo.

Worst. I tried to become a Counter Knight(TM), you know the thing you could do with light shield, where you needed perfect timing ? It didn't work out too well.

Fortunatly for me, I got better (even got to the point where I could be the vanguard in the intro mission.)

Probably just need to limit the number of black phantoms to the number of good guys on the server. That being said, don't you just love to sometimes stop playing the main game all together and spend several hours just invading and ruining people's days? I remember once becoming the old monk several times and just wrecking this one guy who kept coming up. The wrong part was that he only did like a sliver of damage to my HP because I was so well equipped compared to him. Heck, as the old monk, I even dominated people who tried to use the Fire Ruler strategy on me.

Oh, I hope they have another boss like that in this game.

I've been sticking to Soulbrandt with pure black character tendency and the Adjudicator's Shield +5. Handy combination, that.

Also, invading other worlds is fun as hell, so I really hope From Software doesn't get hasty and mess with that too much. Hell, it practically became my main method of reviving when I died, since I've started to run low on Stones of Ephemeral Eyes. I did like that there was a penalty for getting killed by something other than the player (Get killed by the environment? Say goodbye to a soul level.)

I'm really digging the whole "Demon's Souls, but in a sandbox instead of levels" thing. I really hope the atmosphere in Dark Souls is even better than Demon's Souls.

By the end of the game, I decided to use Morion's blade+rat's ring+spellcast+whatever's-the-name-of-that-spell-that-heal-you-once-when-you-die. You could ruin a boss in no time with that setup. Except the false king. He didn't find that funny. At all.

Didn't work too well when invading either tho. What with the 5 second to cast a spell, everyone had time to dodge out of the way...except if I did firestorm hehehe. Suckers.

The Old King was probably the only point in the game where it felt like it started to get unfair, but frick, I think that was the first time in my life that I started running wild around and laughing like a maniac for beating a boss. Yes, it felt good to beat the Old King. Anyway, apparently the weapons you get are supposed to each be unique. I've got to wonder how well they will implement that. Like some long swords swing a bit wider, have some more delay, etc. Sounds like it'll either be a nice touch or unnoticeable.

I get the feeling it's going to only be noticed by the people who make up 90% of Internet message boards.

It doesn't help that 90% of weapons in demon's souls were ignored due to better upgrades. Generally most players go from starter weapon to crescent scimitar to endgame weapon of choice. There were a lot of ignored weapons.

I was interested in Demon's Souls...I'm definitely getting this. I wonder if that field of tower things in the beginning of the trailer will be in the game? It looks pre-rendered.

After watching the new trailer I know just one thing for certain: OCTOBER IS TOO DAMN FAR AWAY.

October 11th, to be specific.

Really looking forward to this, not least because my Demon's Souls build is kinda inefficient and NG+ is pissing me off. And I think, if I can deal with a fair bit of NG+, then Dark Souls can't be too bad, right?

Definitely going Knight again. You have to leave it to the Japanese to actually have a Holy Roman Empire expy since we don't make games about it. I will waste no opportunity to be a Teutonic Knight.

I just realized something. Since this game has no map, but large environments, I may have to start MAKING my own maps using landmarks
