If it's a WRPG parody, it needs dialogue choices that can roughly be put into three categories:
- Psychotically evil
- Apathetic
- Gives orphans flower-scented puppies good.
Needs more dialogue choices.
At least one more: chaotic neutral—very silly.
should have at least three adventure paths. All we've had so far in adventure path type game shave been downright evil and totally angelic. make a third. Also, make the main character a panda.
DoodlesThanks for the bump! I've been a bit delayed with busyness, though... I hope to get something to show this week. Probably just walking around one room.
Already have a main character sprite, though... (or half of one, at least) But I'll work in a panda somehow.
Do you highlight everything looking for secret messages?Okay, this has been delayed much more than I'd like, and isn't really much to look at after this time... but you don't rebuild momentum by hiding in embarrassment, so let's get this trainwreck a'rollin'!
RPG Revision Zero: You wake up in a room.
(Like the last one, this one might be glitchy or not work in some browsers. I have had success with at least one version of each of the main 4 browsers I worry about, though.* )
Obvious areas for requests include:
- Making the starting room fit an actual setting.
- Adding objects to the room.
- Stats.
(I already plan to flesh out the protagonist's walk sprites to cover more directions, so you don't need to request that.)

Do you highlight everything looking for secret messages? Is that a text parser?
"Hipsters: the most dangerous gang in the US." - Pacific MackerelNah, it's to register keystrokes so that the game can use them.
Oh wow, the up/down keys are floaty. There's like a half-second delay before an input stops after you take your finger off the relevant key, it seems.
EDIT: It makes sense, though, since the character seems to be limited to a grid for movement.

"Hipsters: the most dangerous gang in the US." - Pacific MackerelYeah, it's a grid system, which should look a lot less floaty one I make walking sprites for those directions.
And the textarea will eventually be hidden better, yeah. And the overall page perhaps styled slicker. (Focusing an actual textarea was the most reliable way to get keyboard events without scrolling the page and such.)
Anyways, any requests? Especially setting-related ones?
Do you highlight everything looking for secret messages?Hmm, give the character sprite, I'd wager it's probably more of a modern setting, but now I'm thinking of a Myth Adventures-esque setting.
"Hipsters: the most dangerous gang in the US." - Pacific MackerelMyth Adventures? Not familiar with it... from the trope page, is that more Urban Fantasy or a multiverse mashup?
Do you highlight everything looking for secret messages? From what I recall, a bit of Column A, a bit of Column B. We have factories that make gag Frisbees sprinkled with Fairy Dust, an entire race of green gremlin/goblin-things, a pet dragon, dimensional travel, custom-made crossbows and a fictional counterpart of Dungeons And Dragons. Things like electric keyboards, port-a-potties and vampire nightclubs are brought up, from what I remember.

"Hipsters: the most dangerous gang in the US." - Pacific MackerelHuh. So, for this- I guess we start in a contemporary setting? What kind of room are we in?
Do you highlight everything looking for secret messages?Well, I guess we can recycle the current starting room into something.
Maybe a large, lavish bathroom.

"Hipsters: the most dangerous gang in the US." - Pacific MackerelThat... could work. Would be a good spriting exercise, but hopefully nothing too complicated on the code end.
Of course, an RPG plot that starts in a lavish bathroom is bound to end up weird.
Do you highlight everything looking for secret messages? Can you make sprites for walking up and down? as it stands, the main character just sort of stands stock-still and floats up and down if I'm not also pressing left or right.
I have a message from another time...That is already in the plan, yes.
We'll see how the art turns out...

Do you highlight everything looking for secret messages?Much delayed on this... hoping I'll be able to get a regular pace again for a couple weeks in December.
But for now, a minor update: sprites for walking down exist. None for walking up, nor much done to eliminate floatyness. (I'll likely end up taking the easiest solution and just disable diagonal walking directions.)
Do you highlight everything looking for secret messages?Don't remove diagonal walking since that is really annoying as a player, but have it using the left/right animations instead of the up/down since that looked rather good.
In the quiet of the night, the Neocount of Merentha mused: How long does evolution take, among the damned?Yeah, leave diagonal walking in.

Most games I regularly play are the genre-bending type already, so I am not much of an expert of the subtleties of WRP Gs and JRP Gs. Thus, I can't make very effective parody beyond any parody inherent to requests.
That said, I'll probably use vague memories of computer RP Gs that I played or saw in my childhood as a basis, which I believe more closely followed the "western" flavor.
Before the initial skeleton can go up, though, I have to decide how I'm handling the sprite logistics...
