They always have. At some point they were updated to just ignore mods that would negatively impact them, though.

Ah-slipped my mind, for some reason. I am going to have to be much more careful. I have been playing Gen 6-7 recently, and have not quite gotten back to remembering Crits are x2 not x1.5 in gen 4.

Update:

Badges: 2. Deaths: 0. Pokemon Caught: 16. Pokemon missed: 2. Areas Missed: 1.

Just finished up Eterna City, after defeating Jupiter and picking up a Togepi egg. Gardenia was actually very easy-Pepper, now level 22, swept the whole with 1 Wing Attack each besides Roserade. On the other hand, Jupiter's Skuntank nearly killed Salt-Pepper killed her Zubat and I left her in for the Intimidate drop, but one Night Slash took off a 1/3 of her health so I switched into Salt. I opened with Confuse Ray, But Skuntank failed to hit itself even once and I had to race it with Wing Attack-nerve shredding, and finished just outside the red.

Salt is now a Golbat holding a Sooth Bell, so I am hoping he will be ready to become a Crobat the next time he levels up. Paprika evolved, yet is still so slow as a Grotle he is getting outsped by pokemon 8 levels lower, thanks to his nature and speed I Vs. Wasabi is now a Gyarados, who I now realize has an awful level up movepool this Gentongue.

I have not missed any more pokemon, but my first encounter in Eterna Forest was a Ghastly and Budew.[tdown] I managed to KO to Budew on turn 1 while the Ghastly Cursed Cheryl's Chansey, and caught it the following turn, but that locked me out of a random encounter in the Old Chateau sad.

New Friends:

Thyme: F Pachirisu: Serious, likes to run. Annnd I called it-Pachirisu on Route 205[lol].

Rosemary: F Ghastly: Sassy, alert to sounds. 4% appearance rate? Really? I am never gonna get a Bug.

Sumac: M Machop: Timid, proud of its power. 'Bout time I caught one.

Lavender: G Rotom: Hasty, often dozes off. Nearly killed Paprika before I caught it.

Coriander: F Meditite: Calm, somewhat of a clown. And this one nearly killed Pepper.

Togepi: currently an egg, hoping for not-Hustle.

And onward to Route 206.

Remembered that emulators exist, and went and downloaded one and Crystal (Gold was my first game, but was curious what Crystal added) onto my phone and started that.

Had no deaths for a bit, then fed my entire team to Bugsy 'cause I'm a fucking idiot and forgot he was a threat. (Gulthias the Chikorita, Cogsworth the overestimated Hoothoot, Cripes the psionic Butterfree, Lazy the Dunsparce, and Pearl the Poliwag)

Wondered what the usual rule is for wipes, then just dumped 'em and got the shit out of my box and have been running with that. Lost Skeever the Ratatta to a Magnitude on the way to Goldenrod just now.

Current team:
Dory the Geodude (went back and caught her on Route Whatsit after wiping)(only reason I'm still in it)
Ravora the Sandshrew
Roodaka the Spinarak
Paisin the Wooper (named after Grumpy's exclamation, since according to the Dex it's poisonous)
Zephyr the Pidgey
Omelet the unloved Togepi (hatched after the wipe)

Most of the team is currently around 15-18 (with Omelet at 9 because I don't know if there's actually a point to the damn thing); underleveled because I wasn't sure what level they start disobeying you at, and because I'm lazy. Now I know I can do up to 30, maybe I'll find a way around feeding myself to Whitney. No idea how the hell I'm gonna do that, but we'll see.

I recently downloaded Pokemon Insurgence (incredible fangame) and decided to do a randomizer nuzlocke run for it. This would be my first time using a randomizer (it comes with the game).

Things get seriously crazy. On one hand I can find a lot of good potential recruits, but on the other hand every trainer is potentially lethal.

My starter ended up being a Probopass. A pretty good wall, she's been a pretty good safe option for enemies that might prove lethal otherwise.

So far I have to say I love all the Delta Pokemon, I'm glad for how many I've managed to get as a first encounter.

The first gym leader destroyed half of my team, unfortunately.

My three most reliable team members so far are Mary-Oh the Probopass, Morag the Delta Aron, and Priam the Delta Shuckle.

Previously I had Robo Niles the Delta Quilava and Zeke the Togetic as pretty trusty party members, but... Randomized Gym Leader battles are brutal.

Ended up boxing Roodaka, Omelet, and Paisin, and caught Lagann the Nidoran male. Trained him up to Nidorino, discovered Double Kick, and had hope again.

Bought Lazy the Abra (Wait, Lazy was the Dunsparce, I think I might've named this something different but I forget what) at the Game Corner, then traded it for good ol' Muscle the Machop, which died to a wild ratatta while grinding. Got an egg from the day care, which hatched into Champ the Tyrogue. Evolved it into Hitmontop, realized Hitmontop is a damn waste, and curbstomped Whitney with just Lagann instead.

Current party:
Lagann the Nidorino, lvl 25
Dory the Graveler, lvl 25
Ravora the Sandshrew, lvl 20
Zephyr the Pidgeotto, lvl 20
and, just now, Mimi the Sudowoodoo, lvl 20

Also I just got to Route 37 and got Roared by a damn Growlithe. : | I forgot it had that. I forgot it did that. I shoulda just thrown a damn ball instead of trying to lower its health.

Got to Sandg - OLIVINE, fuck

Got to Sandvine Town. Eventually; spent a few days cheesing the Buena Password game for shiggles and getting a couple bollocks from Kurt.
Think I killed summat on Rt 38, forget what it was.
Killed a Magnemite on Rt 39 because I forgot what the hell I was doing.
Fished up Bob the Krabby to trade him for Volty the Voltorb.

Just swung back to check out that Cooltrainer trio south of Goldenrod, and nearly got my ass handed to me by the second one's Starmie. Legitimately ran out of superpots baiting the thing out of Bubblebeams, constantly almost dying. Ended the fight with four 'mons at lower than 20 hp, three of 'em in the red. Switched to Nidorino (after lowering its defense) thinking I'd use Double Kick to get a lick in because I forgot that the damn thing is part psychic, and ended up beating it with Graveler when it finally ran out of PP.
I did arithmetic in that fight.
Still gotta beat girl number 3. Here's hoping I don't wipe.
EDIT: Didn't lose anybody. Could've, but didn't.

Current team:
Volty the Voltorb, lvl 13
Buddy the Eevee, lvl 22
Lagann the Nidorino, lvl 26
Zephyr the Pidgeotto, lvl 25
Dory the Graveler, lvl 27
Paisin the Quagsire, lvl 24
Currently boxed: Medusa the Arbok, 15; Maria the Godeen, 22; Yin the Magikarp, 10; Roodaka the Spinarak, 17; Champ the Hitmontop, 20; Bruce the Koffing, 14; Mimi the Sudowoodo, 21; Omelet the Togepi, 9; Ravora the Sandslash, 25

Got save data back.

Ravora died fighting Jasmine.
Evolved Buddy with a Fire Stone since it's what I had, then taught him Shadow Ball and Iron Tail; he's kinda the workhorse right now. Weird feeling having a Flareon without any Fire-type moves because his Attack's bonkers but Fire is a special type. He got us through most of Pryce's flunkies; his Sp Def is also bonkers, but unfortunately his Defense is just low enough to make me worried about Piloswine.

Then Dory died fighting some rando's Jynx. Still gotta beat Pryce.
Currently raising up Mimi the Sudowoodo a bit since she can learn the elemental punches and nothing else friggin' can, although she's not too promising right now seeing as her Sp Atk's garbage. She has Low Kick and isn't weak to Ice, at least, but I don't think her Sp Def's anything to write home about either. : /

Caught Wobbuffet in Dark Cave, nicked Squidward, and Tsane the Gligar. Oh, also caught Boota the Swinub in Ice Cave a ways back.

Paisin learned Earthquake, then I taught it Ice Punch and nearly swept Clair with it.
Nearly.
Ended up sacrificing Buddy to Kingdra because I hadn't stocked up on Hyper Potions. : [ Lagann dodged Hyper Beam and finished it off.

Current party:
Paisin the Quagsire, lvl 40
Lagann the Nidorino, lvl 35 (wheretf are those moon stones)
Zephyr the Pidgeotto, lvl 35

Gotta pick some newer mons to train up. : / Gotta do me some proper grinding for once.

Doing a Blaze Black Nuzlocke and it is suffering.

Lost Pneumonia the Tepig to Cheren, Location the Woobat to a Double Battle Volbeat/Houndour, Strain the Pansage to a crit Vital Throw from a Throh.

Then hell began.

Lenora took out Flush the Ariados, Support the Shellos, and Graphic the Liepard. Honestly, I should've wiped but her Bibarel chose to use Curse instead of attacking Indulge the Raticate who had 7 HP left.

So I grabbed Prospect the Trapinch from Route 4 and Note the Cranidos from Nacrene City. Been grinding them up when I get a great idea. There's still one (1) place I can go to before the gym to pick up a new Pokémon!

So I hop on the boat and arrive at Liberty Island. Note is chewing through most of the Plasmoids while Indulge is handling anything too tough for Note. Then I get to the last Plasmoid. Start Flame Wheeling on the Mawhile.

Oh, hey there switched in Flash Fore Houndoom.

Horrified that my super overleveled Raticate will bite it from a Fire attack, I switch in Note. This'll be enough experience to level up to 30 and evolve. Note has an Eviolite and resists Fire so she's my best bet. Eats a Snarl which does decent damage.

Houndoom then crits and kills her. Fuck. Finish off the rest of his team and start the Victini fight.

Two (2) Ultra Balls and a dozen (12) Great Balls later...

I leave Liberty Island, livid at myself for being so stupid as to try it.

Now comes the Battle Company and Dancer grind before taking on Burch.

Current team:

  • Indulge the Level 35 Raticate
  • Prospect the Level 24 Trapinch

Wiped at Burgh. Key lesson of that was to splurge for the healing items that can heal my best monster to full in one (1) go. His Vespiquen ruined me cuz it's packing Intimidate in this version and I couldn't switch out my big physical hitter to reset their stats.

Got last badge, swam over through the cave, and fed Paisin to some bitch's Venusaur because I am just so fucking stupid.

Caught a Raticate, named it Roseanne, and let it die a slow, painful death to poison because I was in a mood.

Got a moon stone and finally evolved Lagann, though, so there's that.

EDIT: Oh yeah, did also catch Clutch the Dratini at the dragon cave and Shifty the Tentacool in... Union Cave, I think it's called?

There's quite a bit to go through until the current date so bear with me.

Game: Ultra Sun Blind? Somewhat. Haven't finished the game before. Locke Rules: Faint = Death Battle = Set Species Clause Encounters: 1 Grass, 1 Surf, 1 Ambush/Fishing Spot per unique locale

Starter: Lenneth (Popplio Female)

When the gods felt like they could trust this lowly foreigner with something as precious as a Pokeball and after the shirtless loud guy showed me how to capture a Pokemon as if I haven't been exposed to the creatures all my life in Kanto, I took my first steps on this thing called an Island Challenge. From the locals I've gathered that this is an ancient tradition, perhaps from a more...violent time. Funny how old customs get warped as history marches on, regardless I'm here and mom more or less kicked me out to make me get some sun.

Route 1: Galaga (Grubbin Male)

Read up a little on the local fauna and this little guy evolves into one of my favourite Bugs. It's final form makes me think of one of those old arcade games for some reason. Welcome to the squad Galaga.

Trainer's School: Magnus (Magnemite Genderless)

...I don't need this, I really don't. Again, steeped in this lifestyle like a blasted teabag. Truth be told I was more focused on party composition than these remedial 'lessons'. As much as I like little Galaga Magnus' typing offered so much more. Sorry little guy, but it looks like you're playing backup for the time being.

Hau'oli City: Tensoon (Furfrou Male)

Huh...big city. Surprisingly there's some grass and more surprisingly Kalos-native Pokemon live here. A big, tough looking dog...makes me think of that series I read not too long ago. Tensoon sounds like a good name for it...hang on.

...Nevermind, just some hoodlum idiots causing trouble.

Route 2: Serp (Ekans Male)

Ekans was never my favorite, but beggars can't be choosers. It could come in handy for the upcoming trial in some way. By the way am I the only one who thinks the Trial Captain's eyes are a little creepy?

Hau'oli Cemetery: Spica (Gastly Female)

Speaking of creepy I just HAD to visit a cemetery. Thankfully it was daytime and now a little ol' Gastly decided to join my merry crew.

Verdant Cavern: Ekoloka (Zubat Male), Chom (Yungoos Male)A

I was wrong...Serp wasn't needed. Tensoon tanked that totem like a boss. Got a Z Crystal and two fairly common Mons for the trouble.

Route 3: Palm (Mankey Female), Cloudseeker (Rufflet Male)A

Maybe this whole journey thing wasn't such a bad idea. Out of the sky drops one of my favorite flyers. Rufflet is as adorable as it's evolution is badass. Naturally I had to catch it. Mankey on the other hand...again I won't dismiss it just because I'm neutral on it. Who knows, it could turn out to be an amazing partner.

Melemele Meadow: Cirrus (Cottonee Male)

I'm allergic to whatever flowers these are. So of course I have to go chasing a sentient dust ball when it runs off. Why can't it stay in the damned bag?

Seaward Cave: Jeanne (Smoochum)

This little lady could very well be a powerful ally. I've never given Jynx a chance so...why not?

Late Route 3: (Jeanne and Magnus) X

Poor Jeanne never got that chance. And neither did Magnus. All thanks to a ripe BASTARD of a Butterfree. I seriously did not expect that thing to tear through Magnus in one shot AND out speed little Jeanne to send her to an early grave. At the very least Cloudseeker avenged both of them but...damn it all this did not go as planned. Guess Galaga is coming along after all.

Iki Town Grand Trial

Cloudseeker sure as hell showed that Hala who's the real boss around here. A mere glimpse of the Red White and Blue badass bird to come. I'm so proud!

Ten Carat Hill: Eyedol (Roggenrola Male) Inside , Grex (Rockruff Female)Field Area in Cavern There's nothing like tearing over the island on the back of a charging Tauros. Thanks to the big guy getting rid of those pesky rocks I could take a look at this place. Nothing special save for some treasure and a couple Pokemon I highly doubt I'll end up using. Can't think of a good placement for them sadly.

Hau'oli Outskirts Route 1: Mi (Wingull Male) They're a Pokedollar a dozen. No harm really in catching one. Guess it's time to head to the next island.

Note: I didn't know I needed Mantine surfing until this point.

If you can't handle being outed by a signature, that's on you.

Clutch, the lvl 21 Dratini, is at this moment in an epic battle of attrition against Psychic Gilbert's lvl 30 Starmie.

Clutch's fellow party members lay dead around it: Lagann, the Nidoking, done in by Cooltrainer Blake's Quagsire; Zephyr, the Pidgeotto, slain by... okay, I forget what; Yin the Gyarados, who was so new it still new Splash; and Thompsons the Duduo, just caught and just sacrificed by a trainer at the end of his rope.

The Starmie stands, paralyzed by Clutch yet ever adamant, and caught in an endless loop of getting wrapped, spinning out of wrap, recovering, and starting over. How long will its reserves last?

Clutch beholds as the Starmie returns to full vitality once again. Clutch's coils are sore from exertion; it can use Twister, its only Dragon move, no longer. It can only Wrap, use its nigh-futile Waterfall move, wait for its trainer to use an ever-rarer potion on it, and repeat until one of the two Pokémon collapses from exhaustion.

For there is more riding on this battle than just its life. Whether this run, this cycle, this reality even continues hinges completely on the outcome of this fight.

This is Clutch's destiny.

The Starmie falls! The Dratini rears in delirious triumph, letting out a noise that would be a ferocious roar if the beast could manage anything louder than a whimper.

Psychic Brian sent out Exeggcute!

Before even a hint of relief could enter Clutch's mind, the dragon is filled utterly with an inchoate rage, spurred on by its current trials.

An especially... dragonlike rage, of the sort spoken of only in legend.

Clutch's Dragon Rage wreaks its historical vengeance upon the new challenger, but to little avail, for the egg pile's relentless psychic assault puts the dragon immediately on the defensive.

Clutch continues its struggle with renewed vigor, but alas, destiny has failed it.

Exeggcute used Confusion!

A critical hit!

Clutch fainted!

Just beat Falkner. No deaths yet. Saving that-one-route-where-you-can-catch-Geodude in case of wipe (also have decided that first wipe, continue with whatever's in box, second wipe's the end). Current party:

  • Lena, lvl 11 Rattata
  • Hanzo, lvl 12 Pidgey
  • Genji, lvl 10 Hoothoot
  • Ana, lvl 12 Zubat - Zubat takes for effin' ever to learn Bite. So much grinding.
  • Zarya, lvl 12 Totodile - I didn't remember Totodile taking this long to get Water Gun, but at least using Rage and a berry is satisfyingly appropriate (geddit because Zarya) in the meantime.
  • Egg - I honestly forget wtf the first one hatches into. Could swear it's Togepi. ...In which case I might as well box it.
