Felt masochistic and started up an Alt Evos run last night, with a Beatles naming scheme (PC name John, rival name Mick; all Pokemon to either be named after other Beatles band members or the names of characters/people from their songs). Three dead before Pewter City:

  • Paul the Chikorita
  • Mr. Mustard the Snubbull
  • Rose the Roselia

Currently grinding up the remaining three for Brock:

  • Jude the Tyrogue
  • Michelle the Metapod
  • Clarabella the Nuzleaf

Gods help me.

Now that I have the New 3DS with Pokemon Red and Blue installed, I've started a Nuzlocke on Red. Complete with immature ten year old names.

Current party:

FLAMEBUTTZ the Charmander

BIRDINHAND the Pidgey

RATTYTATTY the Rattata

TOXICDONG the Kakuna.

How far will my ragtag bunch of poorly-named misfits go? LET'S FIND OUT.

Early observations: Brock is probably gonna FUCK MY SHIT UP.

EDIT: First casualty already. Didn't realize the kid in the Gym had two level 11's and went in with a bunch of level 9's. TOXICDONG, you shall be sorely missed. sad

If that is against that pain in the ass Siebold, you will have to have your electric user out by the time his Gyarados is out. Or be faster than it after Dragon Dance.

...and so, I've begun anew on a Pokemon Crystal Nuzlocke Run.

The rules are simple: We have the standard nuzlocke rules, but we have dupes clause and shiny clause going (though shinies are merely trophies, lest they are first catch). If I should be in a state where I cannot catch any unique pokemon in a route, first encounter is what must be caught. Victory'll be had when Red is trumped, but should I white out, it's all over. Also, the catches don't start until the pokeballs are had.

My journey had me start with a Male Cyndaquil (Jet). I had done a fair amount of grinding to make the rival a trivial matter. As for other events, I did get a couple catches: A rattata on route 29 (Weran), and a Geodude on route 46 (Amethyst). I did not go any further than that thus far. I do know that I have never taken on the Kanto half, so that part will be fun with going in absolutely blind in.

The team thus far:

  • Jet (L10 Male Cyndaquil)
  • Weran (L4 Male Rattata caught from Route 29)
  • Amethyst (L3 Female Geodude caught from Route 46)

Casualty count: 0

I too have begun a Nuzlocke. Using Pokemon Y I am debating either doing a wonderlocke or just a standard nuzlocke.

Da Rulez:

  • First pokemon captured of any zone, No exceptions for accidental criticals.
  • No Exp Share, This game will already be easy enough
  • No Legendaries, Legendaries that are caught get sealed in the pokebank so the world may be safe
  • Shinies may be sent to the great pokebank in the sky, rest, released.
  • No trading/wondering/Daycare Fancy shenanigans
  • Items allowed. Most deaths are of the OHKO variety anyways.

My random selection of pokemon starter Cover top screen with hand and pick a pokeball netted me a Froakie.

First thing captured in the field is a pidgey, which I promptly named jesus. Let's see how this thing goes.

I duly apologize for the delays, but to say the least, I've been making some progress since my last post.

Summarily, I had taken out Falkner, courtesy of the Geodude I had caught named Amethyst within route 46. As for Bugz, he proved a slightly worrying opponent with his scyther being able to take an ember. A few more pokemon were caught, including the Geodude mentioned earlier, a magikarp at union cave, a caterpie at route 30 (Yuyuko), a spinarak at route 31 (Name eludes me for now), an unown that I suspect has hidden power water or steel (At Alph ruins: "O" is the shape), a female spearow (Mystia) at route 33, a zubat at dark cave (Alfred), a gastly from sprout tower (Brighid), an oddish at Ilex forest (Name eludes me), a slowpoke at slowpoke well (who'd have thunk it?), and a shiny rattata at route 33 during my training of the team (Nazrin). As for other close calls, nearly lost Alfred during the rival battle just outside Ilex (durn croconaw being tanky as can be to confusion and having a good sum of my team at the time weak to water gun).

With my catches done, I certainly aim to train my team up to at least level 18 before I move on, and possibly 20.

Current team: Mollasses: L13 slowpoke Amethyst: L17 Geodude Yuyuko: L16 Butterfree Jet: L15 Quilava Alfred: L15 Zubat Brighid: L14 Gastly

Casualty count: 0 Close call count: 2 Shiny count: 1 (Nazrin, rattata @ route 33)

...and so I traversed on with my journey, having handled some goldenrod city stuff (namely getting the radio card and learning about some items I might want to get later). I had gone to route 35 and got a Drowzee (Baku), took care of the trainers there, and went to National Park, where I procured a Psyduck (Suika). I then peeked out of route 36 after a bit of training, and took on a psychic who had Abras. My Gastly had made quick work of them, but then came... the accursed Kadabra, and in my hubris, I paid... dearly... the Gastly has fallen to one confusion. In desperation, I thought to send in Alfred the Zubat to take the fiend down with a bite, but unfortunately, my mind faltered as Alfred went down too in one blast of confusion. Clearly frustrated, but remembering not to send in Wheatley the Oddish, I assailed the Kadabra with Jet, my Quilava, and avenged the two.

...that one trainer alone has caused me great grievance, and reminds me of my curse of the Abra line. One last thing: Route 34 was a bust as the Snubbull ran from me (the coward).

Current team:

  • Molasses the L18 female Slowpoke
  • Jet the L18 male Quilava
  • Wheatley the L18 male Oddish
  • Amethyst the L20 female Geodude
  • Yuyuko the L16 female Butterfree
  • Barb the L14 female Magikarp

Reserves:

  • EGG (Self-explanatory)
  • Suika the L12 female Psyduck
  • Baku the L12 male Drowzee
  • Weran the L10 male Rattata (not the shiny)
  • O,Bleary the L5 Unown ("O")
  • Peter the L4 male Spinarak
  • Wally the L10 male Wooper
  • Mystia the L6 female Spearow
  • KENYA the L10 female Spearow (Gifted)

Casualties:

  • (Name confidential) the L18 male gastly (Route 36. Kadabra's confusion)
  • Alfred the L18 male Zubat (Route 36. Kadabra's confusion)

The thing is, that Gyarados was able to take a thunderbolt, and still counter earthquake.

So, it's a bulky water/flying type with monstrous attack, can supercharge that and its speed, has stupidly good type coverage...

It just feels like there's too much that it's good against to be prepared for the nasty ones.

I wish I knew about this thread when i was doing my White or X nuzlockes.

In my White Nuzlocke... tbh, i quit just before the 8th gym because those Bouffalant were just too tough for my liking. I still have the file, but It's an ex-nuzlocke now, but I've still been catching the first pokemon I see on the route. Not sure what to do with the legends, however. Catch them? Kill them? I have the ones I transferred from my first file in the bank, as well as the ones caught in Alpha Sapphire, so I'd just have more of them.. idk.

I was playing this file today and got an Adamant Absol, so that was pretty sweet.

In my X nuzlocke that I actually did beat, I did something a little unconventional. I pulled a few boxes' worth of Pokemon from the bank and those would be the only ones I'm allowed to use in the whole game, as well as gift Pokemon and Xerneas, the only pokemon required to catch in the whole game. Many of them were Wonder Traded to me in the past, and I kept the ones I thought had cool egg moves, had hidden abilities that could be useful, overall rare, or just shiny.

I beat the Elite Four with only 2 pokemon left standing, Roserade and Ninetales, and while the other 4 members lost, they are stored in the PC, never to be used again as nuzlocke team members. I'm currently doing the Looker Sidequests, with Roserade, Ninetales, Celebi, Quagsire, and a few other pokemon I had on me that I can't remember but don't feel like getting my 3DS to answer.

Goddammit, Schezo...

As for my efforts, yesterday's session was merely a training session: I've worked upon getting my team up to level 20, and have also cleaned out the trainers prior to Whitney. Utilizing the music station for the radio has helped with the training over the weekend, and Barb the Magikarp has evolved into the feared and devastating Gyrados. A pity that Whitney's Miltank knows Rollout, and water typing won't help to cushion the hard strike. Despite Barb's evolution, I have my big battle plan for the Miltank: Send out Amethyst to partially resist the rollout pain (Rock resists itself thankfully), and go for the magnitude in hopes of getting the almighty "Magnitude 10!" to send the bovine packing.

As for today's session, it was a short session with just Whitney. I opened up with Yuyuko at L18, matching her Clefairy, with me deploying Confusion first turn, only to be met with a pin missile metronome, so I realize the tankiness of Clefairy with special attacks, and respond with a poisonpowder that lands. The reply? Doubleslap, which goes five hits, with two crits. Knowing my situation, I took this as a sign to get Yuyuko out, and deploy Barb, the recently evolved Gyrados, and proceeded to bite the Clefairy to oblivion after a metronome harden and a doubleslap that hit 3 times. Cue Miltank's arrival, and my swap to Amethyst. My plan was to magnitude the Miltank to oblivion. I had terrible luck with the magnitude shenanigans (many low rolls, with my highest magnitude being a 7) as she revved up a rollout, only to spin out turn 2, and proceed to milk drink off damage from near death, before it became a frantic race to outdamage the Miltank as it rolled for 3 turns, before being shaken to submission.

The badge was mine, and nobody fell. With such a victory, I simply hobbled back to the pokemon center, and called it a session. (Yes, you can call me a wuss for having just a single battle be my short session, but with the awful luck with Magnitude I had, I was not chancing more progress than what I fought hard for.)

Team:

  • Yuyuko: L18 female Butterfree
  • Barb: L20 Female Gyrados
  • Jet: L19 Male Quilava
  • Amethyst: L22 Female Geodude
  • Molasses: L18 Female Slowpoke
  • Wheatley: L19 Male Oddish

Edit: Reformatted team list to be easier to read. Whitney did shake me quite a bit on the fight to forget the formatting.

Started a run of Y. Besides the standard rules and restrictions, anybody who joins my team joins it for life. I can still capture reserves, but once you're on my belt, the only cause for replacement is death (and getting rid of unwanted 'mons via Uriah Gambit is cheating). I've only made it to Santalune City so far, and am now preparing to tackle the gym. Current team:

  • Preston (Chespin, level 11)
  • Piper (Pidgey, level 10)
  • Deacon (Butterfree, level 10)
  • Vault-Tec (Burmy, level 10. This guy is really going to test my "no Uriah Gambit" policy.)
  • Cait (Litleo, level 10)

Viola shouldn't be much of a problem, but with 4/5 party members weak to Rock, I really hope my sixth slot gets filled by a good Water or Ground-type.
