Well no shit. Those games were designed to completed with any equipment the player see's fit rather than forcing new weapons on players who are more comfortable with the default dqupment. That's a major part of the appeal of character action games to begin with.
"I'll show you fear, there is no hell, only darkness." My twitterDid the final boss and was wonder. How come snapping his neck killed him. It did not kill him the first time, like I could see that working if his hands had been covered in mistletoe or something, but there is no reason that should have worked.

Because getting stabbed with that mistletoe lifted his curse permanently. He's mortal now.
@Demongodofchaos 2 Being able to finish the game with the default weapon doesn't affect the complexity. That's ignoring that you still need to adapt to the techniques of said weapon, and learning how to dodge enemies while maintaining damage on them.
A corpse should be left well enough alone...Oh I thought he actually needed to get killing blowed by the mistletoe for it to work.

I saw a vid on Twitter, apparently the snow physics are really nice.
Secret SignatureJeez, some extreme Hype Backlash in this thread.
I personally try not ot care about reviews for AAA games since they're kind of pointless to me. So I'll watch some footage and see how I feel.
A lazy millennial who's good at what he does.I'm actually quite a fan of the new God of War, probably because I like everything about it more than the original trilogy.
It's been 3000 years…Once you get over some of the changes it's still the cinematic flow of setpiece after setpiece that the series is known for. The combat is also pretty enjoyable, there is room for improvement but it does open up quite a bit as you go.
So I just reached Alfheim and hoooooooly shit.
Also the World Serpent is surprisingly adorable.
GOH! JII! RAH!Not that his word is law or anything, but for anyone who cares Jim Sterling has weighed in. His impressions are basically what I expected: not a revolutionary masterpiece but a very solid and well-crafted game all the same.

I'd say to play it for yourself instead of relying on a hack like Jim Sterling.
But I digress.
Watch SymphogearThe fact Jim actually has some critiques about the game instead of that its completely perfect & isn't calling it some generation defining masterpiece lends him credibility.
He's a smart guy, knows what he's talking about especially since he's not hyping it to all heaven.

"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."Jim's review is probably the only not-terrible take I've seen on the game yet. I don't agree with him half the time, and his "games used to be like this!" statement was stupid since last year alone saw a massive release of rich single player games with strong gameplay and narratives.
"I'll show you fear, there is no hell, only darkness." My twitterIn hindsight I'd argue ACG's review was solid as well. I think the fact that the game has so far managed to avoid Hype Backlash despite everything does speak for the effort and passion Cory Barlog put into the project.
Fun Fact: The game originally was gonna feature almost no cutscenes at all.

Heh, that bit about the narrative being the world reminds me of how Breath of the Wild did it as well.
At the very least, I like that this game went for a Logan approach, as that is one of my favorites.
Heck, I'm almost tempted to call this game the best adaptation of that game we've got, with Norse Mythology instead of mutants.

Sort of related related to that, the Leviathan Axe's physics in this game make me hope that if they ever make a Thor game they use this as the blueprint.
GOH! JII! RAH!So, just got to the part where Kratos goes back home to get the Blades of Chaos. Holy crap everything about the whole slow buildup to that scene was amazing, especially the part where Athena shows up just to give a Hannibal Lecture to Kratos.

GOH! JII! RAH!Honestly, I've felt that the older GOW games were really shallow in terms of combat, emphasizing gore and cinematic spectacle over mechanics and combos. Plus, some of the puzzles I felt were really bad, and Kratos I grew to absolutely despise.
The new one on the other hand seems to have made him much more respectable, and has better gameplay, if only by ditching the hack-and-slash elements in favor of more traditional action-adventure style gameplay. Which, considering how I felt the older games paled in comparison to other titles in the straight-up stylish action game genre, seems to have been for the better.
Apparently, GOW is better at being more of a game like Zelda or Bloodborne than it is at being like Devil May Cry.
They're very short compared to the new game (6-8 hours each compared to the 30 or so hours of the new one), so if that's a deciding factor, there's that.
It's been 3000 years…Somewhat - I didn't want to have to spend another 40+ hours on the prior games, in order to "get" the new one. I rather missed the boat on them when they were released.
If all you want to do is be up to date with the story, I would suggest simply watching a story video on You Tube. I enjoyed the previous trilogy when they were first released bit haven't played them in a while so they might feel a bit antiquated by now.
Eh, W Hile they are definitely more complex, DMC and Bayo can be completed with your normal starting weapins from the game just like Kratos can with his blades.
Also, from what I know, Skill Up is the only review that has compared the game to either of those.
Yong Yea's review.
