- Spider-Man 'family' books are on-topic (as are their own crossovers, guest appearances etc.) - e.g. Spider-Man 2099, Miles Morales, Spider-Woman, Silk, Spider-Gwen, Venom, Carnage, Black Cat, Red Goblin and Spider-Verse.
- Characters and comics that originated in Spider-Man but are no longer directly connected to the spider-franchise (e.g. Punisher, Silver Sable) are not on-topic, unless you're discussing historical connections and crossovers. Technically, Marvel's Infinity Comics (and their predecessors, Infinite Comics) are webcomics, not comic books, but it's fine to talk about their Spider-Man stories here.
Discussions that are only about Spider-Man adaptations in other media (films, video games etc.) are off-topic, but discussing the differences between the adaptations and the original comics is fine - as long as spoilers for the adaptations are tagged.
Please follow the spoiler policy rules - tag spoilers for the latest issues, for any previews or content leaks, and for off-topic comics. When including spoiler tags, try to write so that tropers can make an informed decision before viewing them (e.g. which series and issue will they spoil?).

Any time her claws were removed, they'd have to be put back in. It wouldn't make any sense for her to regrow claws coated with adamantium, after all.

Well, the point still stands I think.
Her being faster and more intuitive than Peter doesn't bother me because it has precedent with Mayday.
Its a bit vexing because faster/intuitiver female vs stronger male is so old hat that it has beard but it doesn't strike me as a mary sue trait (and also that descriptor is useless). The other complaints I don't have rationalizations for. The instant makeout thing was not great.

but again the mayday one was different because she inherited it. silk was bitten by the same spider after peter. if anything she should be weaker.
Presumably, she doesn't put them back to the normal configuration because she's used to the current one. It has advantages. The toe-claws make climbing easier, and also give her an extra weapon she can use. Opponents may not expect it, so she can surprise them with it.
Maybe. But it feels like it was done to too great an extent. She's too much faster, and her Spider-Sense too much more sensitive, especially considering she was bitten by the same spider, and doesn't have 13 years of experience improving her skills.

For what it's worth, a flashback showed her getting some training from Ezekiel, since she couldn't control her powers when they first manifested.
Trivia: Morlun also had two brothers and a sister in that book The Darkest Hours.
It's pretty consistent that females of the Homo Spiderus Responsibilitus species have enhanced Spider-Sense and agility.

Is it possible this whole "Silk is better than Peter" thing is like the "Sp Ock is a better Spider-man than Peter" thing ?
That it's going to seem than way but the story turns round to "No, this is why Peter Parker is awesome" ?

I'm not exactly as up to date as everyone else, but yeah, while Silk isn't exactly a Sue yet there's definitely a high risk of her becoming one. Even if you can argue precedent for her improved abilities, she's still has "Ezekiel's pet project", "tied directly to Peter's origin", "makes Peter instinctively want to fuck her", and "gets a job with no resume" as marks against her. She can still come around, but she's still getting off on a bad start.

The difference is anyone with any sense could've figured right from that start that Superior Spider-Man wasn't meant to show Spock as a better hero. It was always going to be about him ultimately failing. So far, it's looking like Silk's arc is going to be about her learning how to be a true hero - she questioned why Peter was risking his life to help Electro, so it seems like she's not quite as selfless as he is. On the other hand, unlike Spock, she doesn't seem to be a self-aggrandizing egomaniac, so she's still pretty heroic.
So, yeah, I think Slott's run has jumped the shark.

I find the existence of Silk weird because it reminds me of the kind of Remember the New Guy? thing done with Jessica Jones, but played with no sense of irony.
Like Jessica has the background of being this forgotten acquaintance of Peter's who got powers and became a superhero, but it works because the trajectory of her life mirrors the trajectory of comics- going from Silver Age optimism to Dark Age cynicism and back.
And similarly, the Sentry also has that Remember the New Guy? thing, likewise for literary effect.
It's just weird to see the similar device used, but played completely straight.

Actually, Laura's claw set-up is the result of her creators. They actually toe out her claws, coated them in adamantium, and re-inserted them in their current configuration.
They were not lovely people there.
