Spider-Man General Discussion

Go To

This thread's for the Spider-Man comics and spin-offs, whether they're decades old or brand new.

  • Apart from the main Marvel Universe titles, Ultimate Spider-Man, Spider-Man "What If?" stories, crossovers, guest appearances in other books, Alternate Universe tales and things like Marvel's manga adaptations are all on-topic here.
  • Spider-Man 'family' books are on-topic (as are their own crossovers, guest appearances etc.) - e.g. Spider-Man 2099, Miles Morales, Spider-Woman, Silk, Spider-Gwen, Venom, Carnage, Black Cat, Red Goblin and Spider-Verse.
  • Characters and comics that originated in Spider-Man but are no longer directly connected to the spider-franchise (e.g. Punisher, Silver Sable) are not on-topic, unless you're discussing historical connections and crossovers. If in doubt, check before you write a long post. If this isn't the right place, there's a more general Marvel Comics thread which covers them.

Technically, Marvel's Infinity Comics (and their predecessors, Infinite Comics) are webcomics, not comic books, but it's fine to talk about their Spider-Man stories here.

Discussions that are only about Spider-Man adaptations in other media (films, video games etc.) are off-topic, but discussing the differences between the adaptations and the original comics is fine - as long as spoilers for the adaptations are tagged.

Please follow the spoiler policy rules - tag spoilers for the latest issues, for any previews or content leaks, and for off-topic comics. When including spoiler tags, try to write so that tropers can make an informed decision before viewing them (e.g. which series and issue will they spoil?).

     Original Thread OP
Since everyone likes talking about him. I know little about him(Ironically,I got nearly all I know about him from a Batman thread),but he's apparently important so I made this thread. Enjoy.

Yeah, that's when things got REALLY personal as I said.

Plus, Norman blamed Peter for Harry's death, not his shitty parenting, so there's also that.

[up]Yeah, but that falls apart because of Norman's flanderization into being a loveless sociopath who despised his son and saw him as nothing but a pawn.

In general, a lot of the reason I hate Goblin is because I feel like the character has been taken far away from the things that actually make him even remotely interesting in favor of bad writers trying to mimic the Sam Raimi movies in the most shallow way possible.

Part of why I like Revenge of the Green Goblin is while it's a post-Clone Saga story it feels like it could've been a pre-Spidey #121 story too.

EDIT: That story predates and inspired the Raimi films and other adaptations that used a similar plot, so that may be why.

The 90's cartoon really leaned into the sympathetic Norman more than most.

[up]"Revenge Of The Green Goblin" is pretty much the only Post-Clone Saga usage of Norman that I actually like. It's literally the one and only arc with him after being revived that makes his revival not feel like a huge mistake.

In that lens, clone saga takes on a new sense of Norman trying to undermine Peter’s identity so it’s easier to influence him

If nothing else, I like the Norman owning the Bugle for the time and especially if you default to Spider-Girl canon, his return at the end of the Clone Saga feels like a nice final era for both him and Spider-Man.

Also just for fun and barring the Spider-Girl comics which often touched on the storyline, which moments from 1999 to 2008 in Marvel would acknowledge the Clone Saga in a direct manner. Refer to the opening of my thread here:

[up]I'm glad I'm not the only one who likes to think of Mayday as being bisexual.

But also you shipping her with Felicia's daughter specifically gives me hilarious mental images of Peter being weirded out by it and triple-checking that he is of absolutely no genetic relation to her [lol].

Huh, the daughters of Spider-Man and Black Cat getting together does get weird when you remember their parents used to date.

I liked Wes a lot, I also liked that Mayday was oblivious to him while she was dating Felicity's brother and had to learn to appreciate him. He even helped her deal with her dad's temporary death post-Spiderverse. They seemed to have broken up off-panel, which I know upset some fans who really took to him as her potential endgame

I was so annoyed about that, that I commissioned and wrote a couple of one-shot one-page comics depicting a future where they got back together and married.

In light of Greg Weisman writing The Spectacular Spider-Men, Josh Keaton and Andrew Kishino did a voiced version of what's already the comic's best gag!

You love to hear it!

I was once asked if I knew there were other items on the menu.

They actually put a menu in the bag with my food. Just in case I wasn't aware.

Yeah.

It sucks.

I don't want Paul to die, because it'd be a waste of time sparing panel space to kill him. I just want him to disappear (or not suck).

But now thanks to memes, he's gonna live forever. I honestly don't think he's even worth mocking.

More bad news Spider-bros. I showed Spectacular Spider-Man to a teen girl I'm babysitting, and she was not impressed.

She's mostly a fan of Miles Morales thanks to the animated movies.

Are we all being replaced by those younger fans?

sad

Fair enough, but Spectacular is still...spectacular. It's a shame she didn't jive with it.

Maybe show her the fight with the Sinister Six. It's hard to not appreciate that fight.
