Sorry if this is the wrong place—couldn't tell if this goes here (since its a video game) or in Wiki Talk, so I went with what seemed most logical.

Anyway I just added an entry for the Kings Field series, because our lack of one was unforgivable! Mainly, I'm not sure if I used the right tropes for everything.

The main parts I'm not sure I did right:

  • "Bragging Rights Reward" - I described an item that is very hard to get and turns out to not really be worth it. Not sure what the more fitting trope would be.

  • "Dark Is Not Evil" - To be honest, I'm wondering if there's a trope that better describes the morality switcheroo that King's Field III plays. To give more detail than I gave in the article: In KFII it was pretty much assumed "Seath good, Guyra bad," but in KFIII you're told by a higher power that the war between Seath and Guyra is basically just dragging the world down, and as both gods are pretty petty, they both need to go. Guyra has already been dealt with, so now its Seath's turn. It's not Cerebus Syndrome since the games were pretty dark to begin with, and its not a Retcon because it isn't replacing the past continuity so much as adding a new dimension to it and it doesn't directly contradict whats been said before.

  • "Motif" - Just generally not sure if this is the right trope for what I describe.

  • "Spiritual Successor" - I'm not sure if the example I used really counts, as there was another King's Field game after Shadow Tower was released. It's more like an unacknowledged spinoff than anything (same for the Eternal Ring example. I've never played Demons Souls so I can't say for sure).

Also, Shadow Tower introduced some gameplay mechanics that worked back into the King's Field series. I'm not sure if that's a trope though.

Also: Is there a trope for weapons that evolve as the game progresses? Like maybe "Weapon Levelling"?

Thanks in advance.

Bonus Feature Failure?

I've yktww'ed Self-Plagiarism for that kind of thing.

I recall seeing a trope that was like Bonus Feature Failure except it applied to findable secret items that weren't necessarily considered "bonuses." I forget what its called though.

Self-Plagiarism might work, though it sounds a little negative and not-quite-right in some respects (though Shadow Tower and Eternal Ring have a lot in common with King's Field, they do have slightly different gameplay foci).

One more request: Can somebody who understands Indexing put that article on an index? Please?

As I understand, indexing is very simple. Just add the article to the appropriate index and it'll get properly added.

This game was apparently already on the action RPG index, linked to its Wikipedia entry for some reason. I wicked it to the new page so all should be well. Is there some relation to Demon's Souls? The index shows D'sS as a sub-bullet point to King's Field like it was a spin off or something.

As far as Seath and Guyra goes, that might fall more in Gray-and-Gray Morality.

[up][up]Demon's Souls is often called a Spiritual Successor to King's Field.

I'm not entirely sure why—just going by the description in The Other Wiki, King's Field and Demon's Souls don't really have that much in common.

Reviving this topic because I have a new question:

I was wondering if, rather than troping them as "Spiritual Successors", I could make both the Shadow Tower games as well as Eternal Ring part of the main article? Most fans of KF consider them "part of the family" so I was wondering if I could just make this a big "From Software First-Person RPG" article.
