[up][up] Which is weird considering that most fight scenes in the original involve Lion-O not moving and the sword of Omens just shooting homing lasers at people. Coz ya know, cheap animation.

Okay, so if Thundercats were to get another reboot, what do you think it should be like?

[up] a bit of both while fixing the aforementioned issues of both series. But, get rid of the plot relevant age up.

And say what you will about the classic series, it had the most epic arm wrestling scene of all time.

I'd like to see more of Thunderia explored and not just the Thundercats reduced to a few. Also, have Mumm-Ra be a ruler of his own planet to make things more equal.

Were there any plans for Pumyra to have a heel face turn had the show continued?

[up]If the plans released by a rather disgruntled screenwriter were any indication, she would have been turned into a monster and died fighting Lion-O.

[up][up] In the original, I understood it that Mumm-Ra was more or less the great power of Third-Earth (not unchallenged, however) and that he'd just been asleep in his pyramid for a long time. He didn't need to rule anything, and didn't want to. He was about terror, evil, and destruction, and if you're going to rule something, you have to preserve and guide it, even if only for your own benefit.

And Mumm-Ra was less a ruler in his own right than simply being the chief servant/slave of the Ancient Spirits of Evil. While the 2011 series didn't last long enough to actually bring up this relationship in detail, the classic series did have signs that Mumm-Ra isn't actually happy about this. There was one episode where Mumm-Ra tried to obtain a powerful Artifact of Doom Upgrade Artifact, the Golden Sphere of Seti, that he once used in a failed attempt to free himself from his masters. He failed to convince his masters that this time he was totally going to use the sphere to serve them rather than try to free himself again.

What if IDW does Thundercats comics?

[up]I’d groan, especially considering their horrible ROM comic, every non Hama GI Joe comic, etc.

Eh, at least they probably wouldn't make Wileykit and Wileykat Mumm-ra's personal slaves (and yeah the implications that Mumm-ra didn't just have them cleaning for him are there).

Yes, that's a thing that happened in the Wildstorm comics.

[up]Considering what they did with ROM as part of their Hasbro “No, we canz has shared Universe u guys!” nonsense, I’d say it’d be worse.

Then again, the new series did have the creepy overtones of Unholy Matrimony between Mumm-ra and his resurrected minion Pumyra. "Come, beloved"...yeesh.

[up][up][up] Having read the comic, I'd say they were FAR past the point of "Implications"

[up]That was a thing in the early 2000’s wasn’t it? Buy the rights to an 80’s cartoon, and make a comic with either pseudo-manga artwork, a lot more adult content, or both. They all did it. Voltron (which is miles ahead of the new cartoon) Transformers, GI Joe, Thundercats, etc.

IDW ROM still sucks though. tongue

It's unfortunately what you get when you have writers who don't so much want to carry the torch as they want to realize their headcannon and fanfics in professional print. And when you have editors who'll let them.

Art director Dan Norton shares a lot of what would've happened in season two and beyond of the show. It's a long podcast (nearly three hours), so plan accordingly.

About reinventing the relationship between Mumm-Ra and the Ancient Spirits of Evil, what if was more like the relationship between Frieza and his father King Cold?

[up] I rather have the relationship be similar to Kevin Sullivan and The Master.

So yeah, expect Lion-O at some point to turn heel, join the Outsiders and form their own new World order.

Can we get the short version of that podcast please? 3 hours is a while and the speaker was droning a bit.

The What Could Have Been section of the show has a massive compilation of the podcast. It still misses some details, but all of the main points are there.

On a serious note, what do you think of my idea for reinventing the two villains' relationship?

Looking over the What Could Have Been section... I'm kind of glad they didn't go through with their plans for the Wilykittens

And they had the renewal! No wonder the staff was so angry about Lego Chima.
