Guyver: the Bioboosted Armor

I didn't find a Guyver topic, so I thought it was time someone made one. We can discuss anything from the ongoing manga to the anime to the old movies.

For those who haven't heard of Guyver, it is about a biomechanical armor called the Guyver that bonds itself to high schooler Sho Fukamachi. He is forced to fend off the evil organization Cronos that is after the Guyver, so they can take over the world.

If you're familiar with the third Blue Beetle, Jaime Reyes, it's kind of like that, but I consider Guyver to be a deconstruction of superheroes, Kamen Rider specifically. Sho never really uses his powers like a super hero, instead spending all his time just trying to survive. There's also a lot of mystery and conspiracy going on with Cronos.

I'd heard of Guyver for a while, and I always just assumed it was just some old cult classic from the early 90s, even when the newer anime came out, which I didn't even hear about until last year.

I was very surprised to find out that the manga is still being written, just extremely slowly. There's a ton of content that the adaptations never cover. Then again, when compared to how long it's been, it's not really that much. Most manga chapters are released at a much, much faster rate. Guyver chapters only come out like every one or two months.

My favorite adaptation is the 2005 anime. The old OV As have their moments, but the anime just has so much more polish, plus it lasts longer. I would have loved a second season, since things really get interesting right when the first season ended.

The first movie was really stupid and a waste of budget. The second movie was what the first one should have been, but without the budget. It would be awesome if they could do a new Guyver movie that actually fit the tone of the manga (and was Japanese).

So, has anyone been keeping up with the manga? I'm excited to see the female Guyver. It's about time they got another Action Girl. This series is kind of a sausage fest. The next chapter will be out soon, and things are really starting to heat up.

I only know Guyver through the old OV As, one DVD of the new anime, and the two live-action movies (but I haven't seen those in awhile).

I kinda wanna read the manga as soon as my Japanese is sufficient, because it is kind of interesting and I kind of find the idea of an alien organism that symbiotes with the user and can be called on almost at will to be fascinating.

The manga is being translated into English by Guyver Advocacy, so you don't have to know Japanese, unless you want to read it in Japanese: http://www.japan-legend.com/wiki/index.php?title=Guyver_Advocacy

It's on Manga Fox too, but not quite all of it is there.

I wish that the newer manga chapters would get translated and published in the States. Viz only did the first seven volumes, and that was years ago. The anime covers the first ten, but that's less than half of the series so far. It's a shame too, because things get really interesting after that. There's a publishing company in Singapore that's translating them into English, but they're very slow. The only really official translation that's up to date is in Chinese.

I hope someday that there is an adaptation that manages to cover most of the manga.

Chapter 181 is out now. Seems like there could have been more given the two months it's been since the last chapter.

Anyway, in this one we see Aptom encounter the Libertus zoanoids, and they remind him of his Lost Number days. I hope he deals with them quickly. I don't want this to turn into another really long fight. I was hoping to see more of Sho and Agito, or even more Apallon, but if focusing on one fight at a time helps get through it faster, I'm all for it.

So anyone know if anyone will ever translate and release chapter 190 onwards?

lol dead thread... sad. I'm watching the anime and is been a fun ride.

To win, you need to adapt, and to adapt, you need to be able to laugh away all the restraints. Everything holding you back.
