I could use some help here.

The cover says it's 'Record of Agarest War', not 'Agarest Senki'. However, the back cover lists it as 'Region 2'. Should I buy this? I fear that this might be a Japanese version, but I do know that there is an European version...

Well?

All my PS 3 games (including Agarest) say region 2. And I'm very sure that they are all European.

Great!

But several questions before I buy the game:

  • Will it be completely obsolete when Agarest Zero is out?
  • Is it a good game? Bad reviews everywhere I heard.

English-language PS 3 Agarest is a rarity in my place (as my PSN store did not include that!), so I should be careful.

I don't know anything about Agarest Zero, so I can't comment on that.

To be honest, I haven't played it very much, but I found the gameplay rather average. It's fun (and has a rather unusual system), but one shouldn't expect something too big. However, I found the story and the characters quite interesting. Although I wonder how much the fanservice even fits. I haven't encountered any fanservice (save for Fyuria's Yoko Littner-rivaling "clothing"), but it's a very serious story and I can't quite imagine how fanservice can fit in it. I fear that it might be quite disruptive.

Also, I encountered a Difficulty Spike. The beginning is very easy, but soon I got to a boss fight, I just can't win. But judging from the developer's other games, I probably simply need to grind.

PS3s aren't region-locked anyway, so it shouldn't even matter what region it comes from.

^ What the Loli said.

Isn't it called Agarest: Generations of War outside Japan?

Can't think of anything witty, so have this instead...

Ah, I see. Yeah, looks like this might be worth quite.

I still haven't bought this game. There's a site calling this a Kusoge... is this true?

You mean Hardcore Gaming 101?

They're usually a reliable source. This sure doesn't look like a kusoge, though. Though I'm not about to try and find out.

From what I've seen, I would hardly call this a Kusoge.

I like HC 101, but one shouldn't give too much about their opinion. They once bashed Dragon Quest VIII (and DQ in general) to hell. Although that page doesn't seem to be there anymore (and the actual DQ article much fairer).
